RE: Trimming issues?
Yeah I can guarantee that wings are level.. this is a long running problem and I've tried it over and over to make sure. I can visually see it yawing left as it raises the nose.... its most pronounced doing a large loop... once in a vertical climb it stays there... its only when I raise elevators.. yes I've checked the elevator throws with a digital level.. I'm most inclined to agree with the drag letting torque have more effect... seem possible.. I know I COULD just mix rudder into the elevator.. but I'd rather fix it aerodynamically have have things smoother than fight against aerodynamics all the time... plus that mix would later mess around with any hover corrections or similar manouvers....

RE: Trimming issues?
yeah i've read that.. and I cant see the problem I am talking about....... pull on the elevator and it yaws....

Trimming issues?
I have a goldwing/redwing 30cc MX2.. which I love to bits.. However... when carrying out any "elevator up" manouver (loop, etc) it will yaw left. I have found that I even have naturally starte to add right rudder on any manouvers... Its not "violent" biut after a complete loop (large) I do end up very far away from where I "should be" Its really screwing up basic manouvers such as loop, fig8 even just going into vertical for a stall turn etc.. I've tried to give a mid-range trim.. ie not too far forward that I cant do any 3d playing, but not too far back that its completely wild. Ideas?

RE: Thoughts on the GW MX2 30CC ARF ???
this should help! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9995777/anchors_9995777/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#9995777 I absolutely love mine.. infact I'm onto my 2nd airframe.. Since I got mine I've basically "culled the heard" and reduced all my stock to just the mx2, a scale tucano and my trex 500... the mx2 is just a great "every day" plane.. I can just fly around lazily.. do nice smooth acrobatics or I can bash it around doing 3d (as best I can). I started with the JC28 but i've moved on to the DLE30 and the change was worth it!

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
yeah shes a real confidence builder!! Best purchase I ever made in my RC flying... I've had mine over a year and i've REALLY advanced with it, i'm far far better for having it. To be honest after getting my MX2 I reduced my entire stock.. Now I only own a dle20 powered scale plane, a trex 500 and the mx2... I just dont need anything else!

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
ORIGINAL: Cpt Crash Of course, the stock tailwheel tiller came loose on the first landing which was a no-bounce greaser. I'll fix that with a threaded rod and some loctite.
Dont bother.. Get to your LHS.. buy a standard tail wheel assembly... you know the ones that have the plastic hinge that screws to the underside.. and it is just one contiual iron rod bent to shape?. Its the ones where the tail wheel obviouly goes on a "horizontal part" then it goes vertical so you push a bent part into the rudder when you build a plane? Well get one of those.. but cut it shorter and bend it at 90 degrees so it goes along with the rudder like the one in the kit..... I had endless problems with tail wheels for this plane untill I did this......

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
If you lower the speed then drop the flaps, for me it did nothing! With flaps lowered and increased throttle it raises verticaly with no aoa very like a glider in a thermal.. If it balloons you dropped the flaps with too much airspeed. It just raises the nose a tiny amount but thats what you wanto to reduse airspeed to land.. I mixed qbsolutely nothing..

RE: noise insulation of ignitions?
Yeah i already have tried a choke on the wire leading to the nosewheel.. As a last resor i'll just power the nosewheel from the ignition battery with its own rx so it is completely isolated from the rest of the system...

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
Yes i've flown with the 15x12, with this lrop I had real problems slowing down to land and ended up running waay long and off the end of the runway. Whats happening is that during flight, at certain revs the nose wheel will lower itself then raise again... Around 25-30% ish.. I have been thinking of powering the nosewheel by the ignition battery and its own rx to completely separate it from the servos etc.. If it has to have noise problems, ateast it will the the only thing suffering!! The cg was more than fine!

RE: noise insulation of ignitions?
yeah the cap isnt fully installed in that photo because it wasnt fully... well installed.. it was just "located" for that stage of the build and the photo.. I promise that it IS well seated now ;) The ignitian will fit in that space yes.. but I was really worried about it overheating there and reducing airflow to the carb and around the head.... comments? To be really honest though.. it will still be the same distance away from the nose wheel........ where the vent line is pointing in that photo is where the nosewheel is.....

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
rk212, have you flown yours yet? I'm having RF problems where the nosewheel lowers and raises as it likes due to noise created by the ignition pack (being so close due to layout)........ are you experiencing this?

RE: noise insulation of ignitions?
here is the build thread of the model: This part shows some photos of the plane and the layout.. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/postnumber.asp?id=10894838 The plane does have 2 power sources, one for RX and one for ignition... the noise IS purely picked up at and by the nose retract as it is located right where the ignition box is, the only thing separating them is the firewall/nosewheel box.. I have installed a ferrite noise reducer on the cable leading to the nose wheel.. there is a little instability during flight but I cant be totally sure that it is due to the noise or turbulence or another reason untill I get rid of this issue.. I'm wondering if installing some wire mesh or something like that between the two will act as a Faraday cage or something similar....

noise insulation of ignitions?
I'm having problems with a servoless retractable... Its the nose wheel one so it is right by the ignition, and there is no other option of a place to put it.. due to the layout of the model... ie the ignition wont fit in the cowel and the nose wheel... well its in its place.. Any ideas of something I can put between the 2 to isolate/insulate the noise a little? I know its a problem as when I fly, the nose wheel lowers and retracts as and when it wants to.... spends the entire flight like a yoyo.

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
ok yeah the choke for me caused a little head scratching too... In the end I was "lucky" in that when I bought my trex 500 another club member gave me his crashed 500.... So, the pushrod for the choke was originally the tail pushrod, using the same ball-link, I screwed the ball to the choke arm.. Then I used parts I cut out of the 500 fuse to act as guide holes, which I screwed to the nylon engine mount.. and now there is a "C" shaped pushrod bending round the cylinder head so that it crosses across the front.... that gives me something to get at through the air intake under the spinner... Its one of those, there is no "right answer" cases... what you can make work with what you have is best..... I dont forsee needing to take the cowel off... but if I do i'll get a photo of it for you. I did also toy with the idea of just having a LONG screw bolted in the hole of the choke arm.... as this would point straight down, where you will have an air exit anyway.. it doesnt have to reach all the way.. just long enough so that you can find it by poking your finger in.... The only thing I will add... be carefull about where you fix the fuel tank vent line........ I managed to fix mine in a place where the fuel "pees" all over the tyre when the undercarriage is lowered..... as it obviously would be while filling..... Just a silly issue I have to address that I couldnt "see" as I did that with the UC retracted...

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
No more flights as yet, I was only able to go to the club on sunday and there was really high winds... the 15x12 is now installed and I manged to use the time to give the engine a far better tuning than it had (mostly because I added a tube to each carb screw so that I can find them through the cowel easily). Not much else to add! Have you managed to start building yours? Colin.

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
thanks for the info. Its not an issue I am ignoring, I have only made 2 flights with this plane, and as they were first flights on the dle20 I didnt give it full throttle by any means.... nice and relaxed for this and the usual breaking in reasons. I´ve been hunting around for a 3 bladed prop and spinner... but in the end I might just have to go with the 16x8 and make sure the runway is kept clean!!

RE: Effects of gravity on Airplane fuel tank in a dive.
Ok I do have one question about this.. and its more about how engines work than the theory of where the fuel is.. So lets say the plane is doing a powered down-line, the clunk is out of the fuel and "sucking air"... Then I pull out of the dive and the clunk is again submerged in fuel. Would I not then have an air bubble in the fuel line? therefore why does an engine not deadstick once this bubble arrives at the carb?

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
For me, this is the photo that makes me think that no matter what, you still need to cut some cowl out. [image]http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/upfiles/419482/Ji28975.jpg[/image] I will say however, that the colour match of the standard exhaust and the oracover is not too bad! In the club we actually spoke about how we noticed the oversized nose wheel far more than we noticed the exhaust.

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
The eflites were PERFECT! I cycled them in the air a few times during the maiden.. no problems at all! Yeah the fuel tubing is to add friction and work like a break. Most of my RC planes have had this... all except my 3d gasser.. which lands so slowly that it does not need it. A quick bashing together of the (mostly) usable video footage is ready!!! Check 1:45 !!!!

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
flaps.. I found about 50% of a servos full travel was enough.... any more and it really ballooned up... but there it just raises the nose a little and slows down! you NEED flaps to land.. god its fast! DLE is a GREAT match for this plane! you´ll love it! take off was uneventful and just needed a little left aileron trim and that was it! everything else was exactly as is! I will be needing to add some fuel tubing to the wheels to slow them down a bit.. I managed to run off the end of the runway when landing right at the head! No biggy though... also I think it is also a case of me needing to get more used to the model and more confident with landing it slower. I did notice more instability with the ordnance installed... they must be bending in the airflow or something and acting like rudders... Definitely not for everyday use but worth having for a club day/event!!! really I just need to spend more time setting the carb of the dle, its definitely running rich.. Once I get the problems solved I am having with the format my new video cam records in i´ll be able to get a video going. But you will just love high speed low passes like a jet on this! It REALLY had a lot of fans at the club! Rates were the low level rates with 30% expo.. I did find I needed full rates for taxing as there was not enough response for the nose wheel, but again no big issue! I may end up just locking the rates in the tx with ailerons, elev at say 60% and rudder at 100% and have done with it... it wasnt like flying my 3d gasser where I continually flip between rates for various manouvers. I did NEARLY loose the plane on maiden, I´ll include it in the video... I took off, went high... trimmed, tested flaps etc etc... then decided to practice some touch and goes... well on one I decided it would be the landing... touched down hit "motor cut" ... faffed things up and retracted the UC!!!!! by PURE luck at that time the plane bounced on a stone or something and I was able to give it full gas and get back in the air!!!! Wont make that mistake again!
ORIGINAL: nefariousrc Great build but that 15x8 prop is to small..  Even a 15x10 unloads enough in the air to put you over 9k.  If you absolutely must run a 15'' prop then you should go to a 3 blade to load the DLE 20 more.
I'm not saying you are wrong, but the 15x8 is on the dle 20 website as recommended... http://www.dle-engines.com/dleg0020.html Going to go and do some "homework" online to see if I can find anything else written about this.
