RE: Why Speed Is Never Cheap
Traxxas is a niche RTR company. I have owned a couple of their products in the past and have always found them to be quality vehicles. I don't think anyone would miss the mark in saying that with Traxxas, you pretty much get what you pay for. They also consistently bring new blood into the hobby which is essential. While a $1100 vehicle is certainly not in my RC budget I know that it is within reach of plenty of other folks out there. On the flip side of this, you have hordes of 'foaming at the mouth' RCers who have the drive and the knowledge to turn a $200 kit into a 100mph bullet. It may or may not be as pretty as a Traxxas car but it's the journey that we find rewarding. As with most everything else in this hobby, it's all a matter of taste. And if Traxxas can continue to innovate and bring more people into the world of RC by providing quality RTR products, then more power to them.

RE: Official Losi Mini 1/16 SCT RTR
Hey All, I'm digging up this thread to fire off a couple of quick questions. Does anyone know the stock gearing ratio on this truck? Also any clue what the weight of the stock shock springs and stock oil is? I'm hoping to find this stuff out before I start wrenching on it.

RE: super noob
For RTR I'd go with the HPI 3 EVO. Peep the sticky at the top of the forum for more info on buying your first on road.

RE: the right RC on-road
For bashing and all around RTR asphalt havoc, I say go for the 3 EVO. The HPI engine is more powerful. The only drawback is the plastic spacers it has instead of turnbuckles. But you can hop it up with adjustable turnbuckles and threaded aluminum bodied shocks for starters. HPI also sells a drift conversion kit that changes your center of gravity for some sick, sick drifting.

RE: Offical nitro tc3 thread
The OS .12TZ is pretty easy to get your hands on and it has 1.6 horses. Only drawback is the price. For your price range, check out the Fantom FR12 (1.3 HP) or the HPI Nitro Star 12R XS (1.3 HP). They should be pretty good alternatives if you can't find the ones you have listed.

RE: NTC3 VS RS4 3 EVO, wich is best?????
I have them both, but I built the NTC3 from a FT kit and dropped a OS engine in it. I really like them both quite a bit but I use the NTC3 for racing and the 3 EVO for bashing. The NTC3 is highly adjustable for different courses while the 3 EVO RTR is not. That's easily changed though by adding adjustable turnbuckles and threaded aluminum bodied shocks. Obviously I can't compare RTR to RTR but get the 3EVO if you are mainly going to be tooling around in the street or in parking lots. Once you start getting serious with it you can still hop it up and race it.
ORIGINAL: Bigedmond The problem is, it all comes down to the driver, and their setup. you can have 1000 bucks worth of parts, but if you have a bad set up, or are a bad driver, im gonna beat you.
BINGO! Woot! Woot! Finally! A buddy of mine (10 years of racing) moved here a couple of years ago and immediately smashed our onroad track record with a TC3 team kit and standard 15 turn motor. He was lapping guys with 10 and 12 turn motors. Why? Because he knows how to set up his sedans and he knows how to read a track.

RE: Offical nitro tc3 thread
I'm almost finished rebuilding my NTC 3. This weekend I'm headed up to a track north of here with my bud, but I don't kow if I'll have the engine broken in by then. But that's OK cuz I just got the HPI back on the pavement with a fresh set of tires and wheels. I can't wait to run the NTC3. I dropped in a OS MAX 15CV-X and a futaba s3010 steering servo in it. I may get up early on Sat and break it in but who knows. [:D]

It's the arm or horn that sticks up off of the servo so you can attach stuff to it. [:D]

RE: Question about TC3's and Steering Servos
I don't know the details like volts or which ones are better (got a LHS?) but the answer is yes, and yes it's easy. Use the same horn that's on the servo you have now. Futaba makes a wide selection of servos.

RE: cant get 4-tec to stop spinning out
I was having a similar problem with mine the other day. First off check and make sure your camber and toe in is set up correctly. My problem turned out to be the shock pre-load spacer. One of them on the back had popped out of place and was up at the top of the shock assembly. Hope that helps! [8D]

RE: Fastest RTR RC out of the Box
Just to throw in my 2 cents - I'd get a shaft drive kit and drop a .15 or .18 engine in it. Belt drives do have a higher top speed, but can be a pain in the butt when sand or small pebbles get in the drive train. It's also kind of hard to find a parking lot big enough to handle a 70+ MPH car. Plus, shaft driven RC's are easier to work on due to the simplicity of the design. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me but that's just my opinion. [:)] Regardless, touring cars are a blast!! Have fun!

RE: Fuel Line question ???
Yeh. I have the same HPI. I noticed that my fuel line was rubbing against the gears so I trimmed about a 1/4" off of the line and ran it on the outside of the carry handle. It sits right in front of the gears now but does not rub. So, trim it or tie it and you'll be fine.

RE: Traxxas Nitro 4-TEC 2.5 or HPI Nitro RS4 3 18SS or Associated Nitro TC3 Plus
Personally, I'd go with a shaft drive. They are much more forgiving when it comes to pebbles and other debris you'll find on the streets and in parking lots. HPI also has the nitro rs4 RTR 3 evo - so nothing else to buy except fuel, bottle and hot plug Honestly, I have a hard time finding parking lots that I can run my 4-Tec at WOT. I've tried going up to the local mall after it's closed, but the rent-a-cop nazis keep chasing me off.

RE: Hello...
ahhh I was going by this that I found in the Q&A section of the HPI web site "With the new T-15 engine and the stock 2 speed the (rs4 RTR 3) Evo goes almost 45 mph. If you want to go faster you can go for a taller gear ratio. We've had the car up to 60 mph with our optional 18 SS engine, but those kinds of speeds aren't practical for daily driving on streets. Around 45 mph is a good balance between handling, fun to drive, and not breaking too many parts." Personally, I'd belive the RC magazines B4 I would believe the manufacturer. Thanks Burntt!

RE: Hello...
For road hogging both the RS4 3 and the AE TC3 are good cars. I wouldn't suggest dumping tons of cash into a car you just want to run around the street. The RS4 3 tops out at about 45MPH with the T-15 engine in it. An 18 SS engine would push that over 60. I'm not sure about the top speed of the TC3 - that'll depend on what engine you drop in. Also the Traxxas Nitro 4-Tec hits 60+ MPH out of the box but I'm not a big fan of belt drives though - especially for road/parking lot use. Just for what it's worth, my fastest RC is a hopped up electric. [:D] But I am sure that there are plenty of folks here with hopped up Nitros that would leave me in the dust.

RE: INSANE power setup, help needed
If you want to go with a sedan check out the FT TC4 kit (comes out later this month). Toss a brushless in it and it will haul. I have the Team TC4 with a 8t double wind motor in it that I run around parking lots. It takes minimal upkeep and tons of fun. With a brushless, you can work the full range of pinions giving you either sick accelleration or top end. IMO You definitely want shaft for simplicities sake.
