RE: best bashing truck savage or mgt
It's suprising, you would've thought that someone would've asked that question before..... The baddest meanest truck is the... SEARCH button.

RE: Clutch bearings
Quoted for truth.... get the aluminum clutch. Won't be sorry. Running the Robinson gears, and the clutchbell bearings have lasted about 3 gallons. Not to shabby I spose. Heat in your clutchbell is the enemy.
ORIGINAL: Frost_
ORIGINAL: speedy1379 I have a problem that I can't figure out. I keep toasting my clutch bell bearings. Here in the past few months they haven't been lasting long at all. Maybe 10 tanks or so. I think just before they started going out I put on the Robinson Racing spur and clutch bell, and my new OS 18. I have read on here some where that a metal spur will shorten the life of these bearings...Is this true?? Or is it that I put the 18 in??? My gear mesh is as good as it was before, and I only had to replace them 1 time in 8 months. Anyone have ANY ideas why my bearings are going so fast???
Wow there are lots of responses here, and lots that miss the mark. The GT's clutch setup SUCKS. The MIP clutch, on an engine bigger than a .15 SUCKS. The insane amount of slipping going on is causing too much heat for the bearings. Mine constantly discolored the CB on the outside within a few runs (new CBs) and constantly went through bearings. I have 2 ported engines; an Epic18 and an OS18, and both of these require something other than a composite clutch. THE ANSWER to your problem can be found in this thread: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=2294418]No More PUNY MIP GT Clutch[/link] The link to the product is down the page a few posts, and there are pics too. Read the thread; it's about 3 pages and other users weigh-in on how this setup worked for them. Bolt it on and SEE how much power you've been losing.
RE: Does Your MGT Wheelie?
I have the red springs on mine, stock oil (40?) and yesterday, in really dry grass so it could get traction, it would wheelie... but barely. No way a stock MGT with stock springs is going to wheelie.

RE: My Jato
It's funny how silly the 2.2 inch tires look compared to the stockers on the Jato. Those things look killer... but yes, I know. Not for racing (at least ROAR). Have fun man.

RE: Help with .21 engine Thunder Tiger
Maybe take to factory settings? Then lean it just a bit. Should at least get it to fire, then you can tune from there. Good luck.

RE: What Truck Should a Newbie start out with?
ORIGINAL: t3husted but they can't come close to the prices listed at Ultimate.
Talk to your LHS about hooking you up with a good price. You'll be suprised as to how flexible some can be on prices. MY LHS sold me my MGT for 425. Had it listed for 499. I know that isn't quite Ultimate Hobbies prices, but I like supporting local commerce. Up to you.

RE: Yesterday's electric or Nitro of the moment
Ducman, I run nitro, but wouldn't mind getting an EMAXX sometime also. If you would like, check out RC Action of a couple of months ago. They compare the T-MAXX to the Revo. While this isn't a direct comparison to what you're looking for, they do compare handling, bashing, etc. The T-MAXX and E-MAXX should be very similar in handling. Check that out before you make your decision. I don't own either of them, and like I said, I run nitro.. I just read your post and thought you might like that info. For the reasons of staying quiet, maybe a brushless-EMAXX may be the way for you to go. My $.02.

RE: What Truck Should a Newbie start out with?
I run an MGT, my buddy runs a Savage 25. Pretty comparable in speed, advantage Savage. I like the way my MGT handles better than the Savage, advantage MGT. They're both very durable, but the Savage gets the nod on that point. As far as wrenching, the MGT has a HUGE advantage. Everything is nicely laid out, as opposed to the Savage being shoe-horned in it's chassis. Big advantage MGT. As far as reverse goes, I use it out of convenience and really like it. I'm not going to get the foward only conversion because I like the reverse. Again, advantage MGT. If I had to make the purchase again, I'd still get the MGT. Also, check for local dealer support. That's very important because you WILL break stuff, and want to replace it immediately. Check your LHS. Good luck, and have fun.

Both BL, both. Oh, and ICT, I broke it removing it too. I wasn't bashing too hard... just cleaning real hard I guess. LOL.

RE: Rc10gt upgrades
If you're bashing, RPM arms all the way around, then a good hump pack and charger. If you have some left, RPM receiver box. Then maybe some CVD's. That in my head tho is more than 100. Good luck, and have fun!

Don't be stupid, like me.
Broke the stock servo saver on my MGT last night. Ran to the ole' hobby shop today to replace it. They didn't have the OEM one that came on it, but they did have this nifty Kimbrough unit, number 201. Looked about the same size as the stocker. What the heck, bought it. HOLY HELL is this thing soft. I guess that looks alone and size aren't what make up a servo saver. Live and lean I guess. Too bad too, that five bucks means another pack of smokes. Oh well.

RE: pictures needed
Pretty much stock MGT, but the RC10GT has some nice bashing goodies. RPM all the way around, RRP gears, SSracing Aluminum clutch. Pretty cool I guess.

RE: MGT Bashing shots
thanks for the kind words. it was running a bit rich, but it was plenty warm. not a lot of airflow when you're climbing mounds for 15 mins.. hehe, it was running really well, so that's what counts i guess. I'm suprised at the number of "i've broken a lot of parts on the truck" posts I see. I beat the crap out of mine, and it's been pretty good. I broke ONE knuckle, and bent the right rear toe turnbuckle. I've jumped mine 25-30 feet in distance, and at about 6-8 feet in the air (literally about 50 times in a row), climbed plenty of pretty gnarly hills, and it just keeps coming back for more. I COULDN'T BE MORE IMPRESSED WITH THIS TRUCK!!!! Peace out kiddies!!! I just looked at the pics again, and I must say, the camera picks up a bunch more smoke than was actually there. It didn't look nearly that smokey when I was running it. hehe

RE: RC10GT Fuel Question
Was running Blue thunder 20% Bash fuel, which is pretty high oil content. Then I switched to O'donnel 20% race which is what, 9-10? Pretty big improvement in performance. Then I switched again to White Lighting, which is 8, but didn't really notice a difference. Biggest thing is that if you're new to tuning a motor, lower oil content will be less forgiving should you go too lean. I've never used the Traxxas fuel, but I've heard many times that it only really works good in Traxxas cars. I would reccommend the O'donnell 20% RTR fuel, which has higher oil content. Godd luck.
