6014HS Question
I fly a 33% Comp ARF Yak. I have 4 aileron servos, 2 elevator and 2 rudder servos. All digital. My throttle is a digital servo as well. What receiver would you recommend? I have the 14ch 12Z transmitter. The 6014HS sounds nice but only ch. 1-6 are high speed and I certainly do not want to use any Matchboxes or Y-harnesses. Knowing that - it seems my only option is the 6014FS which if Im not mistaken has been discontinued. Im not quite sure what the reason is for only 6 channels being HS. Why not have (2) 14 channel receivers, one highspeed and one regular? It only makes sense. Thanks, Charles

RE: KMP's DC-3
Thanks for the suggestions fellas. I guess just tape some flat lead on the nose till it balances. Take that lead off and weigh it. Then take off an additional ounce or so for epoxy or silicone and then weigh out that amount of lead shot, mix with epoxy or silicone glue and place it in the nose. Sounds like a plan. Thanks again, Charles

Oh my God. So sorry to hear about your accident. That sickens me just hearing about it. Ive damaged a plane in an auto accident before but never anything like what happened to you. I pray no one was injured. I wish you success in dealing with the insurance company and hope you can at least recoup some of your loss. Best wishes, Charles

RE: kmp d3 due november 30th i just ordered one
OK here's a question. The instructions aren't too clear. Do the wing spars get glued into the center section of the wing or do they get glued into the wings? And for some reason the instructions have you epoxying the rib template to the wing center section. Thats absurd. Esp since you only get one. Thanks, Charles

RE: KMP's DC-3
Good to hear you didnt use the carbon fiber rods on the hinges. I did check em out and slid one of the hinges into the carbon fiber rod but they only go on so far and it seemed there was the same amount of hinge sticking out of the CF rod as would be sticking out of the trailing edge with out them. So I figure as long as I glue em good there should be no problem. So you didnt use the ply wood backing on the flaps either eh? They seem to be just pure balsa covered with monocote. I might use them on the flaps. Thanks for the info, Charles

RE: KMP's DC-3
Well I started on the DC3. I chose to install the windows first to get em out of the way. Whew ... what a job that was. Esp getting that final cockpit window epoxied in. My arm was too big to fit inside the fuse so I couldnt reach down in there to position that last window in the cockpit. I see that for all the hinges the instructions have you glue a length of carbon fiber rod onto the hinge then you have to drill out the trailing edge holes to fit the CF rod. Im not sure I understand why this needs to be done. Why cant I just glue the hinges in place and be done with it? What did you do and why. Also the instructions say to somehow cut through the composite material on the elevators/ailerons and remove some material to allow you to glue in some plywood squares under the control horns. I installed one of the horns on one of the elevators without doing that and it seems totally fine. I tightened them down pretty snug and nothing got crushed at all. I did run some thin CA into the holes and I used 4-40 instead of the tiny soft metric bolts they included. What did you do? Thanks, Charles

RE: Looking for a big Profile
Thanks for all the suggestions. So far, Im leaning toward the OMP Fusion. I see its only available in a kit form. This is fine with me though as I love to build my planes. Been doing it for years and enjoy building just as much as flying. I just hope the 2.20 Saito isnt too heavy for the Fusion. Seems like it would be ok as the fuse is around 77 inches long. Charles

12Z Set Up for GV-1
I asked this question a couple days ago but no response yet. I would like to know how to set up the GV1 in the 12Z. I would like the governor to be off in normal, on in Idle 1 and 2. I want to use switch C for head speed 1, 2, and 3. I would like to be able to adjust the headspeed from the transmitter if possible. If not, then on the unit. Thanks, Charles

PBY Catalina Kit
Does anyone know of a PBY Catalina Kit available? NOT AN ARF .... a kit. Seems hard to find many kits anymore esp one of the Catalina. I am open to any size but preferable in the 60 - 80 inch wingspan range. My plan is to build it electric but Im not completely sure about that yet either. Thanks, Charles

RE: 12Z Switch Swapping Dilema
Well then, could you explain this Futaba video from the Futaba website? Looks to me like customizing the switches is supposed to be a snap. Physically it's simple, the problem is a software issue which should be an easy fix. [link]http://video1.hobbico.com/gallery/fut/futj9300-deluxe.mpg[/link]

12Z Switch Swapping Dilema
One of the reasons I bought the 12Z was because of the ability to easily swap switches. Just remove the switch plates, unplug the 2 switches you want to swap, remove, swap and then plug them back in. Re-attach the switch plates and your done. Easy. The only problem is .... the radio software doesn't recognize that you have made the switch! Since the software doesn't recognize the swap, it's useless to swap them. And worse yet ... it seems you have to send your transmitter in to Futaba Service in order make use of the swapped switches! Whats up with that? I thought the idea was so you wouldn't have to send in your radio. Seems like a major blunder to me. I wanted to swap the 2 and 3 position switches on my airplane version of the 12Z. So I could use it to fly Helis too. Guess I will have to put the switches back where they were and just keep using my 8UH for helis instead. Major bummer. Charles

RE: Anyone flying the Addiction??????
Oh ... my .... gawd ... This thing flies so sweet. And the tiny 3114's are doing a great job. I started with the recommended 11x5.5E prop but then I tried an 11x4.5 Slowfly prop. I like it even better now. I still wanna try a 12x3.8 Slowfly too. What props are you guys using? Charles

RE: Anyone flying the Addiction??????
I flew my purple addiction for the first time today. It flew great! I have the torque motor that atlanta hobbies sells for it. Im using an apc 11x5.5. Not sure if thats the best prop yet though. Hovered easily, knife edge was pretty solid, waterfalls very tight, great flat spins and lands at a crawl. I thought the build was pretty straight forward and only took a couple evenings. The only thing bad I can say was the ailerons. They come hinged which is great but they also came with the hinge gaps sealed. Thats where the problem was. They ironed on the hinge seal material but did so in a way that only allowed about 25 degrees up movement. So I had to carefully peel the hinge material back far enough to release it from the aileron, then flex the aileron down and then re-iron it back in place. After doing that I had TONS of throw up and down. I loved the motorbox. It only required a small bit of sanding on one of the tabs to fit perfectly. Then carbon pins really worked well too. Great design I thought. The torque motor installed easily and has tons of power. I used Futaba 3114 servos on all surfaces and they seem to be doing a great job so far. Nearly 21 oz of torque and very fast and more important light weight. Lighter than an HS 55. Time will tell how well they hold up. I have never used them before but on paper they seemed a good choice. Plus, they were only $14 bucks each. I left the wheel slacks off to save weight. I weighed them and they weighed like 11.5 grams. More then an entire servo so I left em off. The box said the all up ready to fly weight would be about 26.5 oz. Mine weighs 24.5 and that is with the TP 2100 pack mounted! At first I glued some velcro to the battery tray to help hold the battery in place but found it was nearly impossible to remove the battery once it was installed because of the tight quarters. So I removed most of the velcro and left just a little and then cinched down the battery with a velcro straps. Now its easy to change batteries. I used the 7 channel Berg and micro lite servo extensions on the tail servos. Overall I thought the quality of this ARF was excellent and it was an easy build. It really looks awesome in the air too, specially when its sunny out. So far it's 2 thumbs up .... way up! Charles
