RE: why are tires so expensive?
ORIGINAL: phmaximus Don't know about that, I'm looking $80 for 2 hostile slicks for my 5ive... That's just tyres and postage
Yes, that's about right for tires and postage.... TO AUSTRALIA!!! You're looking at about $47 shipped for a set of hostile slicks to anywhere in the U.S. That's retail. I usually never buy new tires unless they're on sale. When ddm has hostile tires on their deal of the day, they're about $30 plus shipping. Still not super cheap, but hostile tires last me quite a while.

RE: why are tires so expensive?
ORIGINAL: hanly2 ...he has a rustler vxl running 2s lipo...
I keep seeing this and thinking, "Really?! He's destroying tires on 2s?" It's like others have said, reglue the tires and use a new lock nut (or pick up the aluminum hexes depending on which hex is stripping), and see how that goes. If he's strips the wheel hex again, then there's a deeper problem.
ORIGINAL: Foxy You think you got it bad in the small scales? Tyr a gasser. These are $82, A PAIR! http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_26_355/products_id/37012/n/Pro-Line-Bow-Tie-Pre-Assembled-Rear-Buggy-Tires-w-Desperado-Wheel-2
That's true, they can get expensive, but that's also a fully assembled pair (beadlock rim, foam, tire). That whole assembly doesn't get purchased every time you wear out a set of tires.

RE: 30.5 will not start.
ORIGINAL: Gravet What damage can be done by cranking the screws too far in when resetting?
Like tapkoote said, you could strip the needles by cranking on them too hard. If you're turning the needles all the way in, just go until you meet resistance. You don't need to turn them in hard. The stock needle settings you've been using sound about right. For stock needle settings for most of my carbs, I do some where around 1 1/2 turns on the low speed needle and 2 turns on the high, and adjust from there. Sometimes to unflood an engine (if that happens to be the problem), I turn both needles in all the way and then try and start it (no choke, I think). That usually burns up whatever fuel is in the engine without pulling more fuel in. Then it's just a matter of readjusting the needles. I only mention this because when I first got into this, my first problem was a flooded engine, and turning it upside down and pulling the pull start didn't work for me when unflooding the engine.

RE: Announcement: Redcat X-SC
A sub $500 dollar 1/5 vehicle is going to have some issues that are going to pop up. Luckily, most issues that you're likely to come across have some sort of low budget solution that has been thought up by one of the creative people in the RC community. For example, cutting up hitch pins to use as dogbone pins because, back when I owned a rampage, it threw almost every single one of it's pins before I found a way to keep them planted. I miss my rampage.

RE: Rejuvenating your brake pads?
That's true. As I do a little more research, I'm realizing that plasti dip in particular would probably not work. I'm still interested to know if there is something similar that would work. I'm not in desperate need of some DIY solution, but it's always fun to have a quick fix handy for some of these things. I was toying around with the idea of maybe cutting up some cheap bike brake pads to use as replacement pads, and see how long those last. I think I've heard of people, in past threads, using pieces of old worn out tires as pads.

Rejuvenating your brake pads?
It's time to replace the brake pads on my baja. Right now I'm running the vertigo triple brake pad setup. I was wondering if anybody has used a type of spray on rubber material like plasti dip to possibly rebuild the surface of the brake pads (in order to save some money)? Is this a good idea? Bad idea? I've never worked with plasti dip, so I'm not real familiar with it's properties. Is there a better spray/brush on alternative? Is it just not worth the hassle? I would love to hear some thoughts on this subject. [image]http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/300/95/95ca961c-8411-4b66-8ac1-0d9376848fc3_300.jpg[/image]

RE: Lauterbacher Super Sprint LS3-STOLEN
ORIGINAL: noyb98098 According to him the reason was, ''it's easier for me to work on there since there are no customers to disturb me''.
I can see where he's coming from. I often work on other peoples' (friends/family) computers. It's much more relaxing to just take their tower home with me and work on it in the comfort of my own home where I have the necessary tools right at my fingertips. Plus, sometimes running various programs can take anywhere from 10min to 2 hours (depending on what's being run, how old the computer is, etc.). It's much easier to just watch TV at my house while it's running than to sit around at the customer's house waiting for it to finish while the customer checks in on you every 10 mins and gives you the, "why are you just sitting there?" look. I'm not saying that he didn't pull some monkey business, I'm just saying that the concept of taking your work home with you is not too farfetched.

RE: HPI Baja Pull-Start Question
ORIGINAL: DarkFire989 On a gas you will either break the string...
The nice thing is, even if you do break the string it's not a big deal. I had one pull start where the cord was fraying pretty bad and eventually broke. Went to the store, bought some generic rope (tried to get as close to the same stuff as possible), and restrung the pull start. Worked perfectly. Cost maybe $3.

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers
ORIGINAL: Ttowntoolman 1/5th scale gassers sound like anoying weed eaters not like dirt bikes.
This seems to come up every time that 1/5 gassers are mentioned anywhere. I don't get why it matters. As far as them sounding like dirt bikes, I guess I can hear it. I suppose it's no more delusional than the people who think their nitro engine sounds like a formula 1 car.
ORIGINAL: Ttowntoolman Having a gas car is dirty, smelly...
I would say nitro and gas are on equal ground when it comes to this. My gasser gets more smelly than my nitro, my nitro gets more messy than my gasser. It pretty much equals out in my eyes.
ORIGINAL: Ttowntoolman ...and the performance sucks in camparasin to electric or nitro
I won't argue this. For the most part, the average gasser won't out-perform a nitro or electric (brushless) car. They will in all likelihood beat them in (engine)longevity though (at least nitro anyway). IMO my gasser performs on par with my needs for gasser performance.
ORIGINAL: Ttowntoolman ........Can't bring it in the house or the whole house will smell of GAS
I let mine sit in the garage for a few hours before bringing it in the house (if I decide to bring it in the house). That seems to take care of the smell. I realize not everybody has that convenience, but it's worth mentioning.
ORIGINAL: Ttowntoolman Somebody say something that will make me see the light.............
You won't see the light because you've already formed an opinion, and that's fine. Some people enjoy gassers, others don't see what the hoopla is about. It's just like anything else in this hobby.

RE: What is with Marketplace engine prices?
ORIGINAL: BobbyMcGee Do you go into the food store, or the mall and try that act on those merchants?  You will get laughed out of the store! Most likely, they will call security.
Your analogy isn't quite correct. It'd be more like asking 50% off brand new food or merchandise from your neighbor who bought the food or merchandise from a food store or mall. Your analogy would work if I were asking 50% off from a place like tower hobby.
ORIGINAL: BobbyMcGee Do you guys also go into your hobby store and try that half off routine there too?
I could if I wanted to. They probably wouldn't sell it to me, but I could certainly ask. I know for a fact that both hobby stores that I go to, are willing to wheel and deal on their prices. I've seen people, first hand, who have haggled prices down. Not to the extent of half off, but they still got a nice discount.
ORIGINAL: bbuzzard
ORIGINAL: jbooker82 I dont know how much of a difference 4wd would make with a large 1/5 scale. It isnt like they are insainly out of control in 2wd. At least not until you start buying built motors. I have a Baja 5SC SS LE kit that came with no engine or radio. I put a stock Zenoah G290RC engine in it. The biggest draw back for me is how the redcat's look. It looks like you took a 1/5 scale on road car and put a pickup body on it, it doesnt fit or look natural. RE: Advice on 1st 1/5 scale
ORIGINAL: tjm5837 One other question. Is the rampage XB the updated version of the TT?
I don't believe so. I think the xb/xt line has a few differences, much lighter than the mt/tt for one. I'm sure others will chime in with the main differences. Personally, I love my baja, it's tough, reliable, and it's been good to me. That being said, I'd take 4wd anything over a better quality 2wd vehicle, especially when all you're doing is bashing. That's just me, though. For the terrain that you said you'd be running through, a 2wd vehicle such as the baja will work just fine. I usually prefer 4wd because the baja can't handle some of the terrain that I tend to run in (deep snow for example).

RE: Those pesky paypal fees
ORIGINAL: smithcreek
I think there are a lot of sellers who would rather not take paypal at all, but to say that they're doing the buyer a service when they do use paypal is almost laughable. The fact that you think it's ''laughable'' though only reinforces what I said before about not being able to see things from someone else's point of view. It's not hard to see from their point of view, but it still doesn't make their thought process any less flawed.

RE: Those pesky paypal fees
ORIGINAL: smithcreek No one knows why the seller asks for the paypal fee. I would guess that 90% of the adds asking for paypal fees are from people who would rather not take paypal at all. They feel they are doing you a service by taking it in the first place.
I think there are a lot of sellers who would rather not take paypal at all, but to say that they're doing the buyer a service when they do use paypal is almost laughable. They're doing themselves a service. As we've already seen in this thread, there are plenty of people who will simply not buy from a seller who doesn't use paypal. By using paypal the seller expands their customer base and their product becomes much more likely to sell. I'm not as narrow minded as to think that the seller using paypal isn't a service to the buyer at all. It is. Just not to the same extent.
ORIGINAL: Tarasdad For me it's very simple. If I see "add 3% for Paypal" I stop looking at the ad and move on. I don't care if it's an item I desperately want and the price is too good to be true, I won't buy it. In my opinion when a seller chooses to accept Paypal they also choose to deal with the associated fees. That being said, I have no objection if a seller chooses to increase their asking price to accommodate those fees. Add it into begin with or eat it, but don't tell me that I must pay more because you, the seller, chose to accept a form of payment with known associated fees.
+1

RE: Those pesky paypal fees
ORIGINAL: invertmast ...that you are probably only paying 50% of its ''new'' price anyways.
Usually the reason I'm paying 50% of its "new" price is because it's not new. The biggest way to avoid this whole argument is for the seller to just factor the paypal fee into their pricing. Stop asking for an additional 3%. Buyers don't want to see that in an ad (I know I don't). If you get somebody who low-balls you, either don't take their offer, or haggle them up another couple dollars to cover the paypal fee. I'm not sure why this is an issue.

You could probably stick with the stock steering servo to save some money, they're not terrible. Mine just died last week after serving its purpose for something like 3 years. You could also upgrade the fuelie itself. Maybe pick up a head kit. It would be a lot cheaper than buying a whole new engine.
