RE: New Funtana 125
I have an EVO 26GT fitted to Funtana 125; using Pitts-style muffler. Would like to use tuned pipe/silencer system for this engine; make it a bit quieter. Has anyone used this silencer with this engine on Funatana? If so, were you able to get a header that would drop down from the exhaust port so tuned pipe could be mounted under the fuse, or did you simply mount the tuned pipe on the side of the fuse? Any help would be appreciated. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: Engine for a Seagull Edge 540
Hello Cowboy Chris, I have a YS110S fixed to a Seagull Edge 540 60; terrific combination. I had to put a 15 X6 APC prop on engine to slow down the airplane a bit; even then, do most of flying at half-throttle. Verticals at full throttle are literally "out-of-sight." I very much enjoy this airplane, and think it great value for the money. Hope these comments are helpful in ensuring you enjoy your Seagull Edge 540. Happy flying! Ken

Have put about 10 gallons of Morgan Cool Power heli fuel (30% nitro, 23% low viscosity synthetic oil) in flying my YS110S with no problems. Engine set up according to Troy Newman (see http://www.patternflyer.com/troy/?page_id=13). Engine is reliable, and very powerful. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: Going to YS, I'm done with Saito
Raman, Have followed faithfully recommendations of Troy Newman (http://www.patternflyer.com/troy/?page_id=13) in setting up YS 63 S and YS FX110S engines, using Morgan Cool Power Heli 30% nitro, 23% low viscosity fuel. They run flawlessly; lots of power, very dependable, low idle (2000 RPM), smooth transition from idle to full power. Suggest you consider reading through recommendations at above website once you receive your new YS engines. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: YS 140 Limited
Harlan, Am not sure as to problem with your YS 140. However, had similar experience with Saito 72 (no compression); problem was gap in valves was way off so valves were not closing. Perhaps it would be helpful to confirm valve gaps are set properly before exploring other possibilities as to problem. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: YS Engines...What type of fuel?
I use Morgan Cool Power Heli fuel, 30% nitro-23% low viscosity synthetic oil, in YS 110, YS 63, Saito 72, OS FS 91II; all idle well, transition to high speed without a hiccup, and run rich and cool. Cool Power Heli Fuel is recommended by Troy Newman for YS engines; he also notes castor oil should be avoided in YS engines as it gums the regulator. You may wish to visit Troy Newman's website for excellent information and guidance in setting up YS engines. The URL is: http://www.patternflyer.com/troy/?page_id=13 Happy Flying! Ken

RE: YS FZ110: Top end peaks and then quickly sags
Chris, You may wish to visit Troy Newman's site for some very specific and very good information on set up for YS engines; see: http://www.patternflyer.com/troy/?page_id=13 Troy recommends RPM of 8800 - 9800 as best for YS 110Z; I run mine at 9500 RPM, using Morgan Cool Power Heli 30% nitro 23% low viscosity all synthetic oil. No problems; engine is dependable and responsive throughout entire range of throttle. Hope this is helpful. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: YS engine with a MK Floating beam mount.
Hello Roy, Have used the aluminum mount made for the OS FS91II for mounting YS FZ 110S; provides very stable mount (to date). Fortunately, the predrilled, pretapped mounting holes in the beams of this mount (purchased originally for OS FS91II) match perfectly with mounting holes for YS FZ 110S. Hope this information is useful. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: YS 63FZ
You may wish to ensure throttle is open when testing to determine whether tank is being pressurized. Troy Newman points out YS FZ 63s pressurizes tank only when turning above 2000 rpm; at 2000 rpm the engine simply draws fuel into the carburator. Best wishes for success, Ken

RE: YS 63FZ
My experience is fuel leaking out of the carburator is symptomatic of a rich setting of the regulator. You may wish to turn the regulator screw in 1/4 clockwise increments until problem is solved. Troy Newman maintains an excellent website for trouble shooting YS engines; URL is: http://www.patternflyer.com/troy/?page_id=13 Best wishes for success, Ken

RE: YS FZ110s running in.... not very smoothly
Hello Magna, Am running an APC 16X4 prop on new YS FZ110s; Morgan Cool Power Heli fuel 30%nitro, 23% synthetic oil. Engine easily tacks at 9500 rpm. My experience was to set the high end at 9500 rpm, then set the regulator to hold rpm constant when throttled back to 4000 rpm; had to turn regulator screw in (clockwise) 1/4 turn to achieve desired result at 4000 rpm. Once regulator set as above, no problem setting idle at 2000 rpm. This procedure for setting up YS engines is described in detail at Troy Newman's site: http://www.patternflyer.com/troy/?page_id=13 Follow the procedure as detailed there and am sure will have success as did I. Once engine is set up it is a pleasure to fly. Kindest regards, Ken

Jonathan, Check valve supplied with my new FZ110S was wrapped in a little plastic bag and buried in a hole in the grey packing material inside the box which contained the engine; little bag also contained the spring which detents against the needle valve. You may wish to carefully inspect nooks and crannies inside box and hopefully find this little bag. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: YS FZ110 vs FZ110S
Hello Magna, Am unable to compare new performance of new FZ110S to older model FZ110. However, Troy Newman rates (http://www.patternflyer.com/troy/?page_id=13) the FZ110S as more powerful than the FZ110, and puts it in the same category as the FZ120. Hope this is helpful. Happy Flying! Ken

RE: ys 63s rpm problem
Hello Dtalican, Have found my YS63s easily obtains 10,500-11,000 RPM with APC 12X7 prop, but struggles at 9500 RPM with APC 13X6 prop; don't know the reason for this, but such behavior is consistent with that reported by Troy Newman. So, you may want to try an APC 12X7 rather than 13X6. Hope this is helpful. Ken
