RE: Loaded Question: Why is it that rc pilots ignore flight physics?
I thought everybody knew aerodynamics by the time they were old enough to fly. If you are interested in planes, isn't that the first thing you learn? At least by age 10 right? Do kids not make paper airplanes anymore? I am amazed by the lack of practical knowledge in some people, everybody today wants to have instant gratification so they don't build or design first anymore, they just buy an ARF and go to town, trying to learn backwards.

YAY!! I love the LMH! Thanks Multiplex for saving an awesome heli. Now if we could only convince someone to remake the norvel engines, so i can have my nitro back.....

RE: FIberglass Mold How to Tutorial
Resin will eat almost all foams. The only foam that is resistant is polypropylene, or "EPP". But it is only RESISTANT, it will still become distorted sometimes. I work in the special FX industry making tons of molds, etc. Don't use floral foam, go to home depot/lowes and buy a 4x8 sheet of bluefoam or pinkfoam housing insulation, it is much more dense and holds excellent detail and is much cheaper. Fiberglass resin will eat it too but there is a cheap solution, Elmers wood glue, or any wood glue for that matter. Just brush it on or thin it and spray it on, at least a couple coats, works great. Make sure that there are no holes, even a pinhole will let some resin seep in and eat the foam. All you need is a layer to separate the resin from the foam. I have even seen a guy in a pinch use BUTTER! It worked pretty good actually.

Same problem here, can't find parts. I love the LMH, its my favorite heli to just bash and have fun with. I hope it isn't a dead bird.

forum search feature sucks
Please revise the search feature. It is the worst, most difficult, user unfriendly search ever. I type in "blade cp" and it ignores cp and gives me engine forums. Just make it work like google, very simple and friendly. If i do have a successful search(rarely), i cant search again without hitting the back button to get to the main forum page, just incude a search box on EVERY page, simple. Make quotation marks work for a phrase(ie. "blade AND cp" IN THAT ORDER!, NOT "cp AND blade", blade "or" cp, or cp "or" blade). I have searched for long periods of time on your site and not found what i was looking for, but then i go to google and do the same search and get the page i was looking for, ON YOUR SITE!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: That's it, I'm selling, I hate the cp pro.
Yeah this heli sucks. E-FLITE SUCKS. I've had this heli a year now now and havent even hooked up the motors yet. It glitches all over the place. Thats when it does get a signal. Replaced the 4in1, the crystals, tried a 3in1 and a receiver, still no go. It even stripped a servo on its own. This is all after the fact that eflite LIES on the box saying that it will do aerobatics, sure, after you spend another 200 dollars upgrading it. I thought I was buying an aerobatic heli but I should have just burnt my money, at least I could have heated my apartment. Im going to take it outside and run it over with my lawnmower and go buy a trex or a airstar/vario.

RE: fastest zagi possible debate begins
I just put in a mega 16/15/3 with jeti-40 in a zagi 400. Stock carbon fiber prop(about to try some apc's). It is reinforced with a glaspar (about 3/8" wide?) added 2" behind cg so it is wider. I've been running 12 cell 1050 cbp's and kan's. Never clocked it but it goes really freakin fast. Full throttle 500ft dives to 4ft off the ground flybys are screamers. No hint of a flap. Is anybody else running this setup? I don't know how many amps its drawing, just wondered if anyone had problems.

RE: Flying techniques: wind
4x4 grips and series 1 blades on a nitro 117 vmax7, I did have a little left turning capability but it was VERY slow, then a gust would come and override it.

RE: Flying techniques: wind
Ha, I was just going to post the same question. I was flying in about 15-20 mph winds the other day and just couldn't turn(yaw) left. Has anybody else noticed this? I just couldnt turn left at all and everytime I turned all the way around right to come back another gust would spin it further right until I was going away again into the distance. I eventually managed to get it back and land it, said my thanks too, and packed up. I think the wind gusts may have slowed the blades and the torque turned the heli, not sure.

RE: Rotating engine nacelles...
Be careful, when you vary throttle you will also yaw from torque.

RE: Rotating engine nacelles...
You need cyclic if you are making an osprey, not other vtols. Although the other vtols are horrible.(except for harrier)

RE: Rotating engine nacelles...
Yes, the osprey does have full cyclic control. I havent used pnuematic retracts yet but i was thinking they could control the nacelles. Not sure of strength and weight. This seems like an easy project it just is expensive. Think simple, this isnt that complex. It is a chinook on an airplane that turns sideways, done. You will need a multiplexs mixing to accomplish the rotation of nacelles since you need to change from heli to airplane modes and not have them both at the same time. I'm thinking about buying two Quickie 18 helis(the smallest nitro heli with collective?) and modifying a spinner for the collective covers on the nacelles. I'll make a chinook first and then stick it on an airplane and rotate it.

RE: New Darth LMH Fuselage A350
You can also use hydrocal or ultracal which are gypsum based plasters for a vacuum form mold. In mass production they will eventually wear down but if you are just playing around they work great. Darth, I am currently starting to design a Russian Hind fuselage with retracts and a modified tail(weird 45 degree angle in tail). Once the collective head comes out i may design a 5 blade main rotor and a 3 blade tail(a big maybe, I have to see it first). My goal is to get as close to scale as possible even if I have to heavily modify the stock components. If you are interested I may decide to give you the molds when I'm done cause I dont plan on producing any. I already have a working missle launching system installed that I will convert to fit on the "winglets" of the Hind. Its really cool to see a rocket shoot off of the side while in a hover. Here is a horrible pic from a webcam until I get a good photo or video. Note the blue launch servo and dual launch rails.

RE: 2nd v-7
Hey Alan my engine is running great too. I've even been pushing the heli to its limits and running the engine somewhat lean. No warbles or cutouts at all and starts immediately. I ran out of 25% norvel and am now running 15% wildcat with no noticeable change in performance. I think this engine problem is history.

RE: my first helicopter gas lLMH any tips?
Put on training skids, then throttle up until it gets light and wants to slide around. If it slides or turns in one direction, give it some trim in the opposite. If you max out your trims then you need to stop and shorten or lengthen your linkages on the heli until everything is centered. You should practice hovering about 4-6 feet off the ground. Dont worry about breaking this copter! If it crashed from this(or just about any) height it probably wont break. I've slammed into the ground from about 50 ft and full throttle and only had to rebend the landing gear. Just remember that when you throttle up and down that it wants to turn because of the torque, so when you set your yaw(rudder) trim make sure you are at a constant throttle setting. If the tail swings around uncontrollably it may be your gyro settings. Also about the blades, you can hold the blades stopped while at low throttle, but when at full throttle do not touch the blades! They cut and give you a nasty bruise(from experience). I always start my heli by holding onto the back of the crutch with my thumb and forefinger, while wrapping the other three fingers around the boom, just keep your forearm away from the spinning blades. I broke my engine in at full throttle this way and always start and setup the needle this way also. You should be able to put your thumb over the carb too. Its easier but you just have to be careful, and have a long enough forearm[:D] Hope this helps...If all else fails get a simulator. This is my first real heli(had an xrb lama with cord), but have mostly been flying on realflight. Simulators Work! I was able to fly full throttle fast circuits the very first time i took off(after trimming of course)and that was yesterday! I also had some plane experience too which may have helped. Just keep trying and learn one thing at a time and you will soon be jumping up and down shouting and doing a victory dance.(maybe thats just me)[:D]

RE: LMH 117 No Start - HELP!
Hey i live in Pittsburgh(not sure where new london is) and I use 4-6 washers now that it is about 40 degrees out. I also had to start it at full throttle until it was broken in, now i can start at about 50% throttle. After break in you should be able to start with less washers.

RE: What The Heck . . . .
well I just got back from the field and I actually got this heli in the air after two months of replacing engines. I got a about 2 more tanks through it this new engine(5 total), and then it fell from the sky. I checked it out and I know I dont even have to open it up, its the conrod, engine #4 is a goner. The piston doesnt move when i turn the thrust washer. I really thought that this was the one, it ran so much differently and so well but no it is dead now too. ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

RE: What The Heck . . . .
By the way I use the Norvel 25% fuel and a big 60 size heavy duty starter from Hobby Shack with no problems from either. Once I hear the engine pop consistently I pull off the starter or it will prevent it from starting

RE: What The Heck . . . .
Breakthrough! I think. V-max #4, First 3 engines were very tight, EXACTLY like yours TW, and this one is a bit more loose. The other three took for ever just to get to pop or run and then the conrods broke. I just got done starting #4 for the first time and it started easily, within 15 minutes, while the others took at least an hour. The only difference....this cylinder head combo wasnt as tight as the others. I could actually turn this one over with a good finger grip(didnt seem too loose though). I think maybe norvels strive for a super tight fit may be killing the engines conrod with an overly tight fit. I still have to break in the engine though because it was running lean at 3 turns, so i backflushed the needle valve and carb, and I'm out to try again. *Cross my fingers*

RE: V-Tight V-Max 7
Just got #3 on tuesday, they were backordered because they retooled the molds, changed the material that lines the cylinder, used some different way to seat the pin in the conrod, and then the russians couldn't get them through customs for awhile. That is what litemachines told me at least. This was supposed to solve the conrod problem, apparently there are still problems, but i guess i'll try again, and start to buy some stuff for an electric[:D]

RE: V-Tight V-Max 7
well I dont know what to do anymore, the "newly redesigned" engine #3's conrod just broke. I really like this nitro setup but its has just been a pain. I am definitely breaking it in right but the rods keep on breaking right around the 3rd or 4th tank. This one broke in two places at once. I really thought this engine was the one but now its gone. ARRRGH!

RE: V-Tight V-Max 7
Hey T.W. I've been through three vmax7's(2 bad ones) and breaking in #3(redesigned and good hopefully) today. Every one has been tight and took at least 2 hours just to get them started the first time. To turn over when it is tight just use an allen head in the starter cone's set screw to turn over. I actually did what darth did and turned over with a starter(standard airplane) beforehand and it seemed to help. Even though I got my LMH two months ago I havent even gotten off the ground yet (waiting for engines) but I'm not quiting because it seems like a good copter. Hey darth, a little off topic but what kind of molds do you use for your fuses? Hydrocal, Ultracal? I have a 30x60 vacuum former at work so i may make some fuses for LMH if I have time. Also have you tried PETG plastic? Clear and durable
