RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I have some advice and a question. I've had my Cessna for 3 years or so. The really surprising thing to me is that it flies faster than you think it should. I agree that altitude is your friend but you need to climb gradually. This plane is heavy for its size. Make sure you have plenty of room on takeoff so you don't have to turn until it gets some speed and altitude. Otherwise, you may tip stall it. It's just not stable without some speed. After you get some altitude you can play around with the airspeed and get a feel for it. Now the question. I have been struggling with the ailerons on mine from day one. It's the old style with one servo and the wire-in-a-tube linkage. First of all, shoud the wire have a definite bend between the tube opening and aileron horn or just kept straight? secondly, has anyone converted the old style wing to use 2 servos like the new ones? If so, I'd like to see how it was done. Chris

No problem. I use single Rx AR6100's on my HBK2, HK450, and all my parkflyers but I wouldn't for a nitro plane or a heli bigger than a 450. Chris

RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
ORIGINAL: joizeex yea i think you'll be just fine with it. besides, what kind of silly idea is this dual Rx thing anyway [:D] an Rx should be good enough that it'll never need backup. actually, a gov isn't really a ''must have'' item for nitro unless maybe you're doing some ridiculous 3D. i'm only using ch 7 to turn my stabilization system on/off in extreme emergencies.
72 Mhz is fine if you don't have any issues. The reason for dual receivers on 2.4 GHz is it is more likely to get blocked or reflected. If the signal is lost momentarilly in a digital system like Spektrum, it can take several seconds for the receiver to lock back on to the transmitter. The extra receiver ensures that you always have a solid link in any orientation. Chris

Hey, if you guys have moved on to bigger helis and honed your flying skills, dig that CX2 out of the closet and try it now. I'm flying much better in small spaces and it's much more exciting than the MCX. Don't get me wrong, I like my MCX, Honey Bee K2, CX-2, and HK-450 but it's OK to fly them all. Chris

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Been a while since I visited this thread so I thought I'd post my latest. I finally tried a 3S lipo instead of the 8s NiMH and I'm lovin' it. It's an 800 mah I had for my foamy. I've been determined not to cut the battery box and these just fit. That's with a 2408-21 spinning a GWS 8043 prop. It's not the power I wanted but the ability to fly slower. There is enough punch there if I need it. I think the flight time is about the same as the NiMH pack but I haven't timed it. If you're looking for a cheap RX on 72 or 35 MHz, try the Esky EK2-0420A. I have been flying one on my Slow Stick night flyer without any problems. Chris
ORIGINAL: Rosebud6 I had major problems with my tracking a while back. Ended up being the blades (new out of package). Put on the extreme plastics and it cleared it up. Not sure if it was because of the extra weight or just a bum set of blades but it tracks great now. A little heavy for any type of 3d flight but great for sport flying.
Just be careful with those plastic blades. They can hurt you. They will also pull a little more current so watch the flight time so you don't puff your lipo. Chris

RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
ORIGINAL: betapilot Hey dude, another way if you are using a programmable radio, I just copy the model to the next position so I have two of the same model saved and then take my #2 settings and change them to match the battery and name the model accordingly, it will keep you from having to make any adjustments just, switch to the proper model and go.
Thanks, I never thought of that. It should work cause I have a DX7. Funny thing is I have a second program already because I wanted to experiment without messing up the settings but I never used it. I'm still not sure how others are running 80-100% throttle with similar batteries but mine doesn't like it. It could be that my cheapie ESC has a weird throttle curve. I had to set the endpoint adjustment down because it automatically adapts to the throttle range every time it's turned on. It's consistent now but could be non-linear. Guess I'll play with it and see. (Off Topic): I've been mostly flying my Hobby-Lobby Yak-55 lately. It hovers at half throttle and has unlimited vertical. If you've never tried a flat foamie, I highly recommend it. They're amazingly cheap fun. Chris

RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
Since wer're on the subject of head speed, I have an interesting problem to which I haven't found a solution. I have the E-Sky 3900kv, 9T pinion, plastic head, and woodies. I have a linear throttle and pitch curve. With smaller batteries, the head speed is around 2300 rpm. With Loong-max 1650's, it's over 2700 rpm. Is there an easy way to adjust the speed for different batteries? The head speed with the Loong-max batteries is insane for someone like me who hasn't mastered CP flight yet. One little dumb-thumb and it goes the wrong way FAST!! Chris

RE: Blade CX-2
ORIGINAL: Dopesick
ORIGINAL: aviator24 I have moved out the servo link rods for more control in the wind outside. How far can these be moved out? I am out two holes on each side and have two more holes to go? When I get aggressive or try to avoid a crash, I seem to break blades all the time! I want to go to upgrade my blades AS CHEAPLY as possible. Would I be better off just getting a longer bar between the blades?? I have read about lightening the flybar as well as shortening it? That sounds difficult and beyond my tech skill? Pretty much all thumbs.
If your breaking blades while flying aggresivly, you NEED to lighten your flybar. The lower blades respond much quicker then the flybar weights will allow the upper blades to respond. Your getting the Blade Clack of Death. As discussed: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7699962/tm.htm
ORIGINAL: Roadtorque I was looking at my swashplate on my CX2 the other day and thought about giving it a shot of oil (WD40) on the top side of the swashplate just to cut down on any friction that might be in there. Anyone see a problem with this? I figured as long as I dont get to much oil in there to drip over the motors I would be fine. What do you all think?
I would say to you... NEVER use WD-40 as a lubricant. Its one of the worlds worst items to use as a lubricant. It's title, and use is a "Water Dispersing" agent. Hence WD, Combination #40. If you really wish to lubricate it, I would say use a drop of silicon oil. However, IIRC that is a sealed bearing, and it won't doo too much good anyways.
I also think that oil can cause the stock swash to separate more easily. It's just a pressed fit. If it needs lubed, it probably needs replaced. Chris

It is a great little radio for "foamies" and flying indoors so I guess I'll use it like that... Changing crystals in the E_sky TX and RX would be a lot simpler to get to a less crowded frequency... As for the crystals in the Esky, you can use GWS single conversion crystals. You can probably get away with moving 1 or 2 channels away.
Anyone got the scoop on the E-Sky 8G servos? I heard they will be discontinued and a crappy 7.5 to replace. These 8G's hold up fairly well (compared to S-75's or HS-55's) and at $7.00 ea...they're great. If they are discontinued....I'll have to find one the same price, and quality as the E-Sky 8G's...I love 'em (use 'em in foamie planks, any heli up to a 450...they're great).
I just got a Honey Bee FP with digital servos and it does flips so fast It doesn't even need negative pitch...........OK, I'm kidding. Anyway, they are EK2-0508 and look identical to the 8g's except for the label. I'm willing to bet the gears are the same. I'm glad to know the 8g's normally hold up well. I killed 3 of them in one crash - must have been a fluke. I bought 3 new servos and 6 gear sets. Haven't stripped one since and I even broke a set of Xtreme blades. Chris
