RE: So You have a Triplane
Thanks for the info mustangfever. I didn't even think about having to use low profile servos for the ailerons. I just started building yesterday so i have a lot of work ahead of me!

RE: So You have a Triplane
Just started a build on a Flair 1/4 scale DR1. I am planning on powering it with a DLE 30. What servos are you guys using on the 1/4 scale ones. There is not a lot of info about radio gear in the instructions. Thanks, Chris

RE: Jets and burn bans
We are finally getting some rain so hopefully they will lift it this week. Our field has a few houses within 1/2 mile and I would hate to be the one to cause harm to anybodies property. Thanks for the replies. Chris

Jets and burn bans
Here in Oklahoma we have been in a burn ban for about three months. I have heard that we shouldn't fly during a burn ban so I haven't flown since June! Do any of you guys fly regardless of a ban and does anybody know what the AMA says about this situation? We had a fly-in last weekend that the fire department sent a truck to hang out with us for public relations and the fireman I talked to said that he didn't see any legal issues with flying because if you did have a problem it would be accidental. Kellett blades
I have a kellett from A of A and had a accident where the blades were broken. I want to get it back in the air but A of A seems to be out of business. Does anybody know where I can get a set of replacements. I already checked at aerobalsa and their 36" blades are out of stock.

marquisvns, Will using DTE from Dreamworks void my K80 warranty? I am also running Diesel exclusively if that has any bearing on the answer. I think most of the guys here are using DTE with Kero or Jet A now. thanks, Chris

RE: New .90 gas engine (15cc)
I bought a used JBA 15 from a guy in my club. The connecting rod broke after a gallon of fuel. I now see that it has happened before. I just called Valley View and they are looking to see if they have any spares. A friend of mine is going to machine me a new one out of titanium and try to put a roller bearing in it. I am going to to buy a new one for a pattern. Does anyone have a spare in case Valley View is out of stock?

What I was saying is that he told me the wrong show name, it was actually auction hunters on spike tv instead of storage wars on a different channel. that sure was a nice Viper though! Chris

Yes I guess that was it because he said one crashed and the other sold for 9 grand. By the link above I see it was discussed on another thread last year. Guys thanks for the help finding more info. I guess it was faked after all! And on a different channel and show title. Chris

Storage Wars and turbine jets!
A friend of mine said he saw an episode of Storage Wars where one of the guys bought a locker with two turbine jets inside. He said they took one out and flew it until it fluttered and crashed. He said they sold the other one for 9 grand. Anybody seen this or have any details? The guy must have some rc experence or they did some TV tricks to make it look like he was flying when someone else was really doing it! Chris

RE: What allows Kingtech to use diesel where others say you can't?
I flew mine 6 times today in 105 degree temps and it did great. It ran well but was a little down on power because of the heat. I will try the settings you recommend tomorrow and see if it changes anything. No problem filling in Barry, just want everyone to have as much fun as I do! I now see that the settings are for Kero only? Propane needs no changes, right? Chris

RE: What allows Kingtech to use diesel where others say you can't?
Rush, I called Barry earlier this week with the same question. He said no changes are necessary with a propane start. Kero start needs a higher voltage battery to start. I now have 4 flights on my propane start K-80 with diesel and have not noticed any difference. All flights have been with outside temps around 100 degrees F as we are in a huge heat wave here in Oklahoma. The only difference he said you may notice is a little puff of white smoke as you idle down or as you shut the engine down. I have only noticed it during shutdown. I am mixing a quart of turbine oil with five gallons but he said you can mix it 4 gallons diesel with half a quart of turbine oil. Chris

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
raptor16, You can't go wrong with a Sprint. I flew mine 3 times today and now it has over 100 flights. I have a Kingtech K-80 on mine and it is a great combination. Give Patricia some time to return your call, she may be at a fly-in somewhere and she will get back to you if you leave her a message, though you may have somewhere closer to buy one. Al's hobbies in England have them also and that may be your best bet. Chris

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Jaime, You will just have to experiment with the flap/elev mix. 1/2 flap and full flap may be different on each airplane. I have more down elev mixed with full flap than at 1/2 flap. My sprint will land slow enough that flaps are unnecessary if I have a 10 MPH wind. I also am lucky enough to have a 400' asphallt runway. There are guys on this thread who fly off much shorter grass strips and they use crow also to slow down. Hopefully one of them can let you know more info with your mix, but you will still probably have to fine tune the settings to your particular airplane. I love my Sprint and am glad that I picked it for my first jet. You will have a lot of fun with it! Chris

Guys I have been following this thread for a while now and I am wondering after looking at CARF's site if the cockpit kit comes with the airframe. They don't list it on their site. Does it come with the pipe too? Their accessory pages are kinda lame! I have found most of the stuff for the Tucano but the stuff for the Tutor is elusive! Chris

RE: kingtech K80E and K80 KERO flameouts
I had an issue with my first pump too. It ended up burning up my ECU also. They had to replace both and now it seems to run fine, except for the flameouts and that was my fault I think. Barry said they got some bad pumps once and you may have one. Mine runs about 77 PW at idle. Chris

RE: kingtech K80E and K80 KERO flameouts
I forgot to mention, if it starts to flame out leave the throttle at full. Mine started to flame out the second time at the field and I pulled the stick back. it kept running and started blowing flames out the back and cooked the covering off the horiz. stab before I could get it shut down! My engine is on a boomerang sprint so you may not experience the same problem, but just be aware of it anyway. Chris

RE: kingtech K80E and K80 KERO flameouts
Rush, The value I changed was the acceleration delay from 005 to 010 and it seemed to work great. I had changed the value to 005 from the original setting from the factory which was 008 while we ran it on the test stand and the weather was cooler and had less humidity. I guess it's like running a gas engine too rich and slamming the throttle to it. Also, it could be a pump problem. I would change the value and try it before I would do anything else. Chris

RE: kingtech K80E and K80 KERO flameouts
The suspense was killing me so I went and changed my pump value from 5 to 10 and fired it up in my driveway. It's 90 F with 46% humidity per weather channel. I advanced the throllte slow the first time and it reached full throllte with no problem. Then I threw the stick full throttle the second time and it did just great also. I guess we need to set the delay higher during hot and humid conditions. Let me know if anyone else can back up these findings. Chris

RE: kingtech K80E and K80 KERO flameouts
I have had the same problem! I flew my K-80E 5 times on Thursday and had no problems whatsoever. I took it out yesterday (Saturday) and had a flameout when I throttled it up to takeoff. Then I took it back to the pits and fired it up again. When I advanced the throttle again it flamed out again! It was very hot (89 Degrees F) and probably 85% humidity. I E-mailed Barry and he said the problem could be the pump or maybe just the accel delay too low. I also asked him if I could slave in my Jetcat pump to see if it is a pump problem and he said yes. In will try to run it tonight or tomorrow and post my results to help you guys with your troubleshooting. Chris
