RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
I used jaw protectors in my vise and with the outer holder at about 80 deg and the bearing @ 30 deg I pressed it right in. You must make sure the bearing and holder are absolutly square to each other. It wasn't very hard to press in with the temp difference once temps equal out it's super tight. Total cost $10. You need a good vise or arbor press to do this right so it's not for everyone. I give it 3 wrenches!
I wrote that![:D]

RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
ORIGINAL: NSXTACY I had to hammer the bearing into the steel bearing holder [:D]. I guess thats where i went wrong... But it was hard as hell to push in w/o a hammer. What was i sposed to do? Though, the bearing slid easily onto the backplate shaft, had no problems. Oh and chubby did you eat the candy they sent you??[:)] I didn't! [:'(]
AAAAA..... I used a vise. A small shop vise is cheep. Buy one. It slowly and evenly presses the bearing into the retainer. By hitting it with a hammer you dented the end. This bound up the bearings and caused it to overheat.![:@] No candy for me! National Security Ya know[:D]

RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
Mine works fine. I had no issues with it. Like Eddie stated above.. I think you either got a bad bearing, the shaft was damaged( nicked scored or dirty) or if you forced the bearing in hard it may have been damaged upon install. I would try and tap out the shaft from the bearing, get the bearing out of the retainer and email the guy and see if they'll ship out a new bearing. Tell them it doesn't work right. I have a used .18 engine case in the garage and could send you the shaft([:)]) if you need it. Just pay the shipping. I've gotta go out for awhile so PM me if you want. I dunno what else to tell ya. I went that route last summer cause Redcat didn't sell the bearing. I'm not sure if they do yet either. I read about that fix on the HPI forum so I know quite a few have done it with success. When I preesed the new bearing in it went in with just a little force. Also it needs to be pressed in squarely if yours kinda cocked alittle going in it would've damaged it = binding and heat = seized[:o]

RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
Yeah.. it seized to the shaft. It only takes a few minutes for the temps to equalize. They would've been the same temp by the time you had it ready to start up. I don't see how the cooler bearing did that. It would've been tight on the shaft when you tried to start it. How much force did you use to press it in? Also fuel can get to the bearing thru the crank bearing behind the bearing. There is really no seal there. Another thing, was the shaft perfectly smooth when you installed the bearing? I used fine emery cloth to polish the shaft before I installed the bearing. BTW I've been gone awhile working on my Jeep and hanging on the Jeep Forum. I'm gonna be around here again as spring is coming and it's getting time to start breaking the RC's again![:D]

RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
The bearing is a press fit in the steel hex holder. By freezing the bearing it will shrink. The hex holder should be warm or at least room temp. This helps prevent any damage to the bearing when it's being installed. Once both pieces warm to the same temp they sort of become one. Putting both pieces in the freezer will not make it easier to remove. Both pieces shink together. You can't get the hex holder and bearing out of the pull start? It's possible grit or no lube could cause the bearing to seize or heat up and melt the hex into the plastic or has seized to the shaft. You may have also gotten a bad bearing. Mozzy : the freezer "trick" is commonly used to join press fit joints together. Automobile front ends ( king pins & bearings) Heating the receiving part can also expand the part to receive the other but heat can remove the temper and damage bearings. Cold usually does not. It may only shrink a few thousands of an inch but it's enough.

RE: stock 2 speed shifting Q
Just keep adjusting til it shifts when you want it to. There's a small hole in the top of the tranny that you can get to the screw thru or turn the car over. Just turn it in 1/2 turn at a time till it's good.

The Higher the # weight the thicker the viscosity oil. Molassass would be 50000 wt, mineral oil would be 10wt.

RE: Diff oil suggestions?
Oh.. I'm not sure. I just picked the # outta the air. try Tower Hobbies. they're probably cheaper anyway. But the thicker or higher# weight oil the more equal the power transfer is. You may not even notice the difference, and on the 1/10 buggies and trucks there is no center diff. the power is applied equally to the front and rear wheels.

RE: Diff oil suggestions?
The higher the #"weight" of oil the more equal the power transfer is to each driveshaft or tire. IE: If you spin the input of the rear differential and hold 1 tire the other tire will spin and the one your holding will try alittle. With 10000wt oil the one you're holding will try to spin even more. Filled with JB Weld the only way any tire will spin is if you let go. Think 50000wt as Posi Trac.

RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
ORIGINAL: NightHawk18 Heres kinda an off top8c thing but can you buy the fully assembled two speed and clutch bell from redcat racing and just install it on your volcano sv? hows that work? thanks Jared
I've already responded to the cross post advertiseing above in one of the other threads. Jared... I don't think a 2 speed in in a truck is worth it. It will work but you'll need the crappy 2 speed clutchbell too. The gearing is a little to tall for the bigger tires on the Volcano. If you're running the truck on flat pavement only and just want all out speed, or at least whatever the stock .18 can put out, then it can be done. I would'nt waste my $$$[8D]

RE: ? on how to make the tornado xp with higher ground clearence
All this talk about ground clearence.. Undo the top shock mount and let the wheel hang. Note where the lower A arm hits the chassis and remove the spots that hit. You can only go so far though, before the dogbone will bind up and create problems. Just like putting a suspension lift kit on a truck. Good luck guys. PS raising the center of gravity will cause more rollovers. Longer A arms are the key.[;)]

If you need any advice then PM me as I have tinkered with these quite a bit. Thanks all Dave Treasure Trove Toys
Hello all! I haven't been in the forum for a few days. It's nice to see the American dealers tring to unload all their parts and Aussie dealers advertising in practically every post. ( Nice call out Blue!) I'm glad to see most of the same problems haven't been solved. I don't have an online store. Sorry...But just jump online and have a Merry Christmas (unless of course you're Jewish, Then Happy Holidays cause I can't spell). Thanks All [:o][;)]

RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
You're pushing hard on what to get the gear "clicking"??? The whole car? It's probably the spur gear (s) or clutchbell thats got some worn or missing teeth. If it's in the front or rear differential then it's the gears inside the diff. You need to pinpoint where the problem is and you'll usually be able to see the problem. Use a simple process of elimination to locate the problem. As far as the grub screws working out Blue locktite properly applied will keep them from coming out. You're not doing something properly if it doesn't work.[8|]

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
ORIGINAL: glk420247 Ok since I didn't put locktite on the allen screw that holds the clutchbell assem together not having the problem. I don't know what was going wrong. Every time I put the locktite on it would spin it off. ???????????????????[>:] Very weird.
So you're saying that if you didn't put locktite on the clutchbell retaining screw the flywheel stayed on? The Flywheel was coming off when you were running it? or when you tried to remove the retaining screw to replace the broken clutch spring? What flavor locktite did you use? I can't help myself here. You can already get a hardened single speed clutchbell that will outlast a Redcat....HPI77107..[&:]

RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ
Put blue locktite on the screws and they tighten down on a flat spot on the shaft. You can remove the front dog bone without any damage to the car. It's more difficult to control but is fun. I couldn't handle doing doughnuts all over. All of the flats should line up on the shaft like in the pic that Mark posted the link to. But Blue Locktite holds them well and you should do all the screws on the car that thread into metal.[:D]

RE: "OFFICIAL" Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
It's actually easier to land a higher jump. Get a piece of plywood or a skateboard ramp. Something at least 12" high. Hit it under power at about half throttle. Keep the throttle steady with just a slight acceleration off the top of the ramp. Let off the throttle when the car reaches it's highest point. The car should land on all 4's. Make sure your brakes are NOT dragging at all when the throtle is in the idle postion. (finger off the trigger) Test this by runing the car on flat pavement. get it going 2-3 MPH and take your finger off the trigger. The car should coast and not slow down too much. The brakes cannot drag at all! If they drag and you jump, the car will nosedive everytime. Find something soft to land on( sand, loose dirt) and make sure there are no rocks, trees or other car busting stuff to land on. Checkout [link=http://media.putfile.com/Giant-Volcano-Dad-Jump-2]Volcano Jumping High[/link]. It takes awhile to load and there's no sound but it shows you what a volcano can jump. Nothing broke on these jumps. 1 shock top popped off but threaded back on.
