RE: breaking battery connectors
I had a battery connector break off after a crash and when I picked it up the wires shorted and smoked. Lucky I didn't have the battery catch fire. I waited about a half an hour before taking the battery home in the car!

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
Keep the battery from sliding with a strip of velcro on both the battery and bottom of the battery tray. Sometime ago I posted the bench test for amps with stock propeller and 10x7x3 3 blade. As I remember about 10% increase or so.

RE: UM T-28 motor cutting out :(
if it is cold, most likely the batteries. Lipos lose a lot of their capacity as it gets colder.

RE: Survey: Micro Motor Endurance
It seems the motors vary in quality. Some last a dozen or so flight before squeeling and or drawing too much power. Others last a long time (over a year.) It is just the luck of the draw when you buy a replacement. I've had full nose dives into grass which crack the motor mount and break the foam nose, but the motor and shaft ok. Crashes seem to damage the gear box housing more than the motor.

RE: Charging Question
A good way to charge is what is called a "1c" rate. A 2000mah battery is 2amps (divide milliamps by 1,000 to get amps). Charge a battery at the rated amps - in this case set your charger for a 2 amp rate. The result is a 1 hour charge for a fully depleted battery (usually closer to 35 -40 minutes as batteries should never be fully discharged.) A one hour charge rate is "1c". If you set the charger for 4 amps it will be a .5 hour charge - "2c" (ie charging at twice the batteries rated amperage.) The faster the charge the shorter your overall battery life. 1c is a good safe rate and won't be hard on your battery - 2 amp setting.

I've put a 2250mah in the T-28. Make sure you check the CG with a bigger battery and slide the battery forward or back as necessary.

RE: What should I get for a second plane?
of the Um micros by Parkzone, I would really recommend the UMT-28 over the UMP-51 for a second plane. I just flew both tonight, the P-51 might be a bit more of a handful. Either in the BNF version should work with your radio.

RE: Electric Hellcat or Bearcat
Many people like the parkzone wildcat, but no retracts. I don't have one, but the similar T-28 I own is a great flyer. (Some have put retracts on the T-28). I saw a mod that turned a T-28 into a fairly respectable Bearcat.

RE: Flaperons with T28D trojan and Specktrum DX7 instructions...
I programmed spoilerons into the T-28 (opposite of Flaperons, the ailerons both move "up" which spoils lift and causes it to sink.) Never had a tip stall problem, and helps to get steeper glide paths.

RE: How to do major UM t-28 repair
I've used tacky glue with much success mounting electronics and motors to these foam planes. It does take over night to dry, but it is cheap and easily available at any craft section of a discount store. It dries more flexible than Elmers. Its actually just a "rubbery" form of Elmer's vinyl glue.

RE: Micro T-28 BNF issues
Check the control linkages. They maybe out of adjustment or sticking. There is a little "u" loop on each linkage that allows you to adjust them. Pinch the "U" to shorten the linkage, spread the "U" to lengthen. Do this with all trim settings on the controller at center. Adjust the linkages until the control surfaces are centered. Also, check the center of gravity. If it is nose heavy, you be having to adjust too much "up" elevator trim, thus making it "loop" at higher speeds.

I switched to the 10x7x3 prop and love it. Slower, but more power. I had a slight balance issue, but nothing severe. Never had any problems with this prop, even though the tips are a bit worn from contact witht the ground.

RE: Failsafe?
Don't know about RC airplanes. In RC cars, a failsafe zeros the throttle if the car goes out of radio ranges. Stops run away cars when there is loss of radio contact.

After 4 years in RC cars I bought a Supercub. Great starter aircraft. After I had that down, moved to a T-28 as my first aileron. T-28 might be a bit of a handful to start.

I got a bunch in on Christmas Eve. I tested two on the bench using a Watts up and a stock micro P-51. They produced the full 1.6 amps the motor pulls at full speed. Probably won't be able to fly until next spring...

RE: parkzones new ultra micro t-28
I recently added a Wattsup meter to my tool box. For those that are interested, here is the bench results of the stock UM T-28 5.7w 1.6 amp peak I was using a Commonsenserc 150mah battery. In order to use the Watts Up on this single cell battery, I had to use an external battery to power the meter (per the directions). An old 2S battery for BCX worked great. The connector connected right up to the power input pins on the Wattsup.

Just got a watts up and measured the stock motor using two props: 10x7x3 prop - 225 watts stock - 200 watts Maximum amp pull was just over 20 amps. I used a Turnigy 2200mah 20c battery.

RE: parkzones new ultra micro t-28
I got tired of removing the landing gear when putting it in the box. So... I cut the foam out from under the landing gear. The plane now sits in the box with the gear on the bottom of the cardboard box. It still sat a bit too high to put the two pieces of foam down on the nose and in front of the tail without pushing down on the plane. So... I built up the place where the two foam pieces sit with layers of foam tape (2 for the front, 4 for the rear). Now when I set the foam over the plane it doesn't push down when I close the lid. Hold it nice and snug.

RE: UM T-28 Flight Time ?
With 150mah I realistically get about 4-6 minutes of zooming and acrobatics. Nice slow passes at half throttle might get me more. With my Eflite 500mah batt slung underneath, I get 25 minutes - I'm not going back...

RE: Mini P-51D from Horizon/Parkzone
ORIGINAL: orlbuzz Aileron Linkage Adjustment I have speed read through most of the P51D forums I can find and I can't find an answer to this. I picked up one today. I had read the manual online before buying. There is a reference to moving the aileron linkage to another hole for more throw. My bird has a ''looped'' connection to the bellcrank and can't be popped off. I called Horizon and my question seemed to catch him off guard. He had to go look at an airplane to see what I was talking about. He agreed that that link doesn't come apart. Has anyone changed theirs with the other type of link, and is it really necessary? I am a novice flyer, so I probably don't need it. I am much better with my helis. Has anyone else found this with recently purchased planes? orlbuzz
I have never checked my P-51, but my new T-28 needed this adjustment. At first I thought the connection with the bell crank was looped like you indicated. Upon closer examination, it is simply two wires that aren't connected. One is bent 90 degrees to go into the bell crank hole, the other acts as a "clip" to hold it in place. I'm guessing this is true on the P-51. Insert a thin blade between the wires and twist to see if it comes apart.

You will like that big battery. I only fly with it now. I was getting 4-6 minute flights with the small ones, get 20 plus minutes with this one. I plan to buy another and use my small batts with my P-51. Enjoy.

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
I had to put a large galvanized nail into the foam on the tail. Just stuck it right in the foam. Then I repositioned the battery until the CG was proper. My Zippy 2200 batt was as far back as it would go as well. I placed a mark in the battery holder inside. Then I check the cg with each of my batteries. Then I line up the marks when I change batts, and always have the cg correct. I hope they haven't given up on the full size Navy version in parts. Now it is only available in PNP. The AF version is quite ugly. If I ever have to replace my wings, fuse or tail, I don't want the AF version.

RE: parkzones new ultra micro t-28
Father and son! I modified an Eflite 500mah battery to fit. Pictures attached. I used 3 layers of foam tape with velcro on top to built up a mount on the battery to fit in the battery channel. I soldered on an appropriate battery plug. You may choose to use the adaptor which Horizon Hobby sells. 25 minute flight times. A bit heavier, and a bit more sluggish, but well worth the long flights. It also is more stable in the wind. Being a warbird person, I wished they had come out with a micro Sopwith, or Spad, Nieuport, or SE 5. That's just me. Also, too bad the servos show on the bottom wing, but I guess that is the nature of the beast (pun intended). It does look cool in flight. I wonder if this brushless could be retro fitted to a micro T-28?

RE: How I recovered a completely dead LIPO!!!
I tried this with a Lipo that I left plugged into the charger after I inadvertently turned the power strip off. I didn't find it for several days. The charger of course completely discharged the cells. One cell never recovered, even though it appeared to charger properly on a charger through an equinox balancer. I tried to take it apart to make the 3s ad 2s, but gave up when I realized it was getting dicey to try to carve the thing apart. Results on LIPO recovery do vary.

RE: parkzones new ultra micro t-28
Just got back from a short flight test during lunch. Wind was about 3-4 mph (about as low as it gets in South Dakota). Got a chance to evaluate the flight with ailerons set for maximum throw. You do this by moving the servo connection inside the fuselage to the innermost hole on the cam. Roll rates increased to an acceptable level. Aileron rolls and immelmans are much more manageable. This is a fun flyer, with nice, docile, relaxing characteristics. If you want something with some pep, stick with the micro P-51, but this one is great for scale flying, touch and goes, etc.
