6S is much more favorable then 4S, but he would be even better off with maybe a third pack but 2s perhaps. On the bigger hulls your options become quite limited awfully quick. Since he doesn't want a race boat he can get away with a little more. Maybe the castle 2028, or a neu 1527 I think. you can go up to the neu 22xx series I believe they are called. There are lehner motor charts somewhere you can look at. I don't know too much about them, I think they are more expensive then their NEU counterparts. For an ESC you might be interested in a fightercat, they are expensive but are more powerful then the castle esc's I put a 8s 300A esc in my boat, 40" works like a dream. You might want the same or just a little more. The prices are available at the fightercat website but you can only look at the prices once you make an account and sign in. The ESC's are expensive but you get more esc for your dollar then for most any other name brand ESC. Clock.

Definitely an internal combustion engine, the motor mount with the rubber absorbs the vibrations. Talk to the nitro guys they would be able to help. Or you could switch it to electric. you just need to remove the motor mount and put in an appropriate one, Which would you prefer? Clock.

I'm not exactly sure what glue to use, I would probably say some wood glue since the frame is wood. I've seen people skin their hulls with both balsa and plywood, the plywood is more durable so it could be a better option. Clock.

I don't really know how to suggest a "better prop," is the current one causing handling problems or do you just want to go faster? You can get larger diameter props to up your speed a little, or does the motor already run hot? you don't want to fry any components, the props are a lot less expensive then the motor or the speed controller. The 4082 sounds good, what is the rated power on those? at 1250kv, you would probably want to start on 5s and then move up to 6s. so when you say you want 2 3s batts in parallel I think you mean series to up your voltage. I am not particularly good and suggesting escs, I don't like running 6s escs on 6s. My esc handles up to 8s and I only run it at 5s right now until I find the right prop for my boat. so at your 1250 kv you will definitely need a 6s capable esc. You could go with a castle 240 amp esc. those have a lot of headroom on the amps side which is nice. should hold up okay. I think a turnigy 180 might be okay but i've never ran one on 6s. I've heard some people say they are fine on 6s, others say to keep away from those on 6s. My boat runs a Fightercat 8S 300A esc. I remember when I first got it, the footprint of the esc is ridiculous. it's about 6inches by 2.5. oh, somebody showed me something cool, I think it was an hv 130amp ESC, I believe it was a new hobbywing. I forget but I think the Miss Geico is 34 inches, I don't think this would be a big problem, the boat is plenty quick and fun. The only problem is that the batteries are not included, so if you don't have them to begin with, you are going to end up paying more. The miss geico runs for around 340 to 360$$. Not 100% sure. There generally aren't too many of these large scale rtr or artr boats, usually the bigger ones are home builds. The upper end of your range, 47", that is really big, I wouldn't count on getting one of that size rtr let alone artr. possible if you see someone on ebay or something selling their old boat, but rare and expensive. There are plenty of boats just below your length range. the MG as stated before. Motley crue, Hey did you want monos or cats? Clock.

A good motor for that size hull can be a variety of sizes. My 39" mono used to run a neu 1515 motor and to be honest, that motor looked way too small for the boat yet it pushed it with ease. Now I am running a castle neu 1717, they don't sell these anymore but they are very impressive. for a boat of your size, you might choose to go with a leopard motor. maybe the upper 3600's to the 5600's. if you want to go with a more pricey setup of a neu motor, you can go from the 1515's up to the 1527's I think. other brands include turnigy, they have some 5692 sized inrunners for a fair price on hobbyking. asides the usual inrunners some people run outrunners, these get tricky since you still need the speed inrunners get, while outrunners are more suited to higher torque. not many outrunner specifically designed for boats. there used to be little screamers around but I haven't seen them in a while. Good luck with choosing your motor, I wouldn't recomend one motor persay but something in the range of the aforementioned ranges should be fine. Clock.

Man, that running photo looks great. It makes me want to have a crack at building one. The rudder on that boat is truly amazing with the integrated foil. Very clever design. I can tell you how many amps my boat will pull when it is setup incorrectly, The first time I got my boat back in the water after my upgrade and trim tabs, the hull was running very wet even at full speed and I was kinda of sadened by the speed, I pulled the boat out and my 1717 was real hot, even with the water cooling working exceptionnally well and in cold water. The ESC was a 300 amp fightercat, the batts could push more than 200amps, easy. the motor was pulling over 140 when I had the throttle pinned. Now i've changed the angle on the tabs and can't wait to see the hull loose all that drag. But yeah these things can pull a whole lot of amps. Clock.

My brother got a Miss Geico and it has run well since day one. it has room for improvement, we stuck a neu 1515 in and now the boat flies accross the water on 4s, we will try 5s later. I suggest the Miss Geico or if you want try making your own boat, I made my boat and I am vary happy with it. I have heard very very mixed reviews on the spartan, I cannot talk about it personally and I don't think your friends should be telling you to get one if they don't have experience with one either. There are other plenty good alternatives as well. I hear the Motley Crue and the impulse are okay, but once again I have no experience with these and you would have better luck when someone with one of these boats chimes in. As far as hull choice goes. I run a large v hull, gets plenty of speed and good handling, granted you wont see it make a turn perfectly level like a cat, but I like how it carves in the water. The v's are great when the water your run at has lots of waves. catamarans are also great for light to moderate waves. they can go just as fast if not faster than v hulls of similar size and they also turn level and extremely fast. The v and the catamaran are both excellent entry type hulls. the following hulls are a more advanced setup the shovel nose and other hydroplanes glide over the water but they require very flat running conditions. Outriggers are another type of hydroplane which uses pontoons on the frount for stability, the back rides out of the water and just the prop stays in the water. dangerous if there is too much chop. tunnelhulls are some of the most annoying hulls to setup, not the ideal descision. there are faster hulls with similar if not better handling. from what I understand people like them for the outboards and the scale look, which I completely endorse. they look pretty awesome. durability isn't something you really need to worry about, unless you are crashing your boat this wont be a problem. You might want to consider what kind of drive system you want, outboards, outdrives, jet drives(very cool). For a fast boat you are most likely going to need a brushless system. there are plenty of affordable options as well. the motor will need a water cooling jacket to keep from melting, the esc will also need water cooling. same hazards. the hull material is also somethign which should be considered, the spartan is made of abs plastic, at it's rated 50mph, if that thing flips you are looking at the very big possibility of cracking the hull. the miss geico and plenty other boats are made of fiber glass which will survive high speed flips much better. clock

Okay, this might just be me but it looks like the motor specs you gave are, well pretty weak. They will only handle 55amps peak? nowhere near enough if you want to go fast. on 3s I'm sure it would be a blast to drive but a hull that big with that little power woule probably be letting you down. Also I must say that I never perticularly liked those outdrives, I have one in my old Traxxas Blast. they have lots of vibration, running those anywhere near 25krpm would be horrific, there is a reason those where matched with brushed motors, they spin slower and with less power (in general at this size). I've seen those types of hulls before and then an go quite quick, However it might not handle very well at speed, this is an important factor which must be considered, but atleast you should have lateral stability if you are using counter rotating props. Also, thoe 3600kv would run @ 39960 on 3s so forget that suggestion, maybe on 2s running at 26640rpms unloaded, sounds much more reasonable, by the time the prop is in the water and after vibrations in those direct drive systems you are probably looking at a little under 20k rpm. Hey, With a dual motor setup I imagine that the amps on each motor should be fairly low, maybe 70-80 amps. with your 2:1 gear reduction you would want to get double the target output rpm. so wanting say 28000 rpms, 28000*2 = 56000/(6*3.7) Would give you 2522.522522522...... Anyways, you would probably want something in the range of 2400kv to 2600kv. this would actually be a pretty hot setup. say you did pull 70 amps. Thats 70*22.2 = 1554watts, mostly through amps, lots of heat. I personnaly do not like running high kv motors because of the heat generated to get the same power as a high voltage system. Continuing on, this will give you barely over 3000watts which adds up to about 3000/756 = 3.9 hp. not bad but still lots of heat. I would suggest a slightly different gear reduction, maybe 3:2 and run lower kvs. In a boat, 2400kv is a **** ton of rpms, even with 2 motors. Thus I reiterate, run a lower reduction, or maybe none at all, go with low kv and high volts, or you can follow something similar to what I posted above. What I have written I do not exactly support, it is just what would "work" with your target setup. Clock

I'm not sure what kind of distance you want between the rudder blades. I've never had a dua rudder setup. I do think that you might want to get a slightly larger distance between your rudders. Just in case you want to try running other props. I run 52mm, so you might want slightly larger than 50mm clearance. You shouldn't need more than 55 though, keep in mind that the blade will probably be vibrating a fair bit so you need leeway. if you plane on running 50mm give enough room for 55 or so. Well actually that depends on whether or not your rudder has the same offset from the boat that your prop does. I don't know your boat, you do, do what makes most sense, and what looks best ; ) Clock

Those rudders are looking very nice. You probably won't need both but that makes your boat special. That Is a very good looking motor mount, mine only supports from infront and a bend in the support bracket is becomming noticeable, I might have to change it up later. Clock.

Damn, I was posting something else and my session timed out. Anyways I will sum it up quick. 240HV is good, leaves headroom for higher voltage motor later. Accounting for voltage sag on 6s; 19v*240A = 4560watts I think. 2 or 4 batts depends on what room you have in boat, if you need to have the weight spread out all funky then you might choose the 4 batts, I'm sure you are not perticularly fond of adding weights that only balance when you can rearrange the components instead to do the same job. Anyhow make sure that if you are only running 2 batts that you get huge effin capacities. I run 6Ah in my boat but I will be uprading to 2x 6S 8Ah batts, only problem is that it will nearly sink my boat. One of my favorite things about this hobby is room for improvement. Clock.

I personally would not suggest running four batts, with my two I already have a mess of wiring. Four just seems like a needless headache to me. However this ultimately coes back to what working room you've got in your boat. If you can fit only smaller packs to keep your cg good then you might want to get those. Although I'm not extremely concerned with cg, My Batts sit about halfway down the boat hull, not perticularly good for the 30%cg but thats okay. I haven't got my boat in the water since the upgrade so I might still have my porpoising problem. But I can always shuffle around the components later if I have to. So yeah, I would recommend what fits best, but 2 batteries are a lot more manageable. Also means you don't need those crazy battery harnesses to charge all those packs at the same time. Clock.

48 " hull? those 4800kv are no good, the amps that sucker would pull would cause thermal meltdown. for a boat that large you are looking at a kv rating <1700kv using 5-6 cell lipos or more. I am not sure if this is a mono or a cat, if it is a mono I can tell you that getting two struts on the back which are at the same level and straight woul be a huge pain. On a cat it would be a little easier I imagine. also 2200mah would be nowhere near sufficient. My 40" mono runs 2x 5S lipos in parallel with a total of 6000mah. you would probably want more. In fact I am upgrading my current setup to 2x 6S lipos 8000mah each. Total of 16Ah, Woot! so yeah, no 4800kv, they would pull crazy amps and literally melt. When you get to these bigger systems you generally will need to go with an HV setup. Clock.

That bend looks pretty sharp, if you can work that bend over a longer stretch of the pipe I`m sure you will find it far superior. Also, could you please specify the length of your hull? Also, back to the motor, from what I understand those BL 3650 signify 36mm diameter and 50mm length. I think a relatively inexpensive upgrade would be a tacon, you can pick up a good one here : http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m811-36741300kv.html same diameter but 2.4cm longer. 2400watts. unfortunately this one does not come with a watercooling jacket so you would have to get something made or find one for this online somewhere. good news is that this will give you way more power. I am not to familiar with all the names castle gives their products. If the MMP is the 1717 then I would say that the 130 Amp will not cut it if you want a real fast boat. It would be completely fine however if you where running something like an 8s setup or maybe 10s, but you would need a different motor with lower kv rating. I must say though, that is an interesting ESC, I didn't know hobbywing had another HV ESC. Your Genesis is a different affair entirely since it has 2 Seaking 180's, how big is the Genesis anyways? My first esc as a Seaking HV 80A esc. It was only ever going to be temporary but I must say that it handled well until I lowered my strut. Amps went through the roof and paff! It lasted a good while because since it was an HV esc and i was only running it on 5s, it could push around 100 amps constant. If you are asking which 200amp esc to use I might say a castle or fighter cat. If you aren't going to try and run this boat to it's limits then a seaking 180 amp might do it aswell. Out of curiosity what prop do you plan on running. I'm currently using an octura 3 blade 452 I think. Clock.

the 40 dollar tacon in the boat motor section looks good: http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m811-36741300kv.html @ 1300kv you would want to run on 5s or 6s lipo. If you want to spend more money you can go for the bigger leopard motors in the 1-1.8m boat motor sections, those get pretty pricey though. on the tacon you would probably pull about 85 amps. when running at max power (2400watts) you will pull more than 110 amps when you factor in voltage sag. I ran my 1 meter boat on a neu 1515 with an HV 80 amp controller for a while and it ran fine. since then I have upgraded to a more performing motor and esc. you can probably get around 35 mph with that tacon, but I'm not 100%. as for esc choice, if you are only looking at hobby partz you are pretty much limited to the 120 and 180 amp seakings, the 120 would be running quite hot and I have heard negative things when you run those esc's @ their rated limit. always plan for headroom if you can budget it. I would suggest the 180 amp for the added head room. Clock

I have a boat of the same size, I was first running it with a neu 1515 to get myself started, it moved pretty quick and now I also have a 1717 going into it. It's approximately doubling the power from my first motor. It should do fine on a six cell lipo but you need a hefty controller to push that sucker. Recently I my biggest single investment into RC when I bought my Fighter Cat 8s 300A esc, It's replacing my old HV esc which I toasted on boxing day. Make sure that the esc you choose can handle more voltage than 6s for some headroom, & 200 amps atleast. Good luck with your build! Clock.

Wow that hull looks great! I must say that the motor looks awfully small for a boat of that size, the esc might end up destroying it because of how much power it can handle. Could you elaborate on how your shaft tube is broken? You can use a pipe bender to get a nice curve along the tube. I've seen people also bend it by packing it with salt/sand or whatever other small particles and then gently bending it by hand. You could also use a rubebr mallet if you are VERY careful. The sand/salt keeps the tube from colapsing. Good luck with your build. Clock.

You say you want more speed out of your boat. I think you should lower your stringer, it looks like the angle is way too high IMO. This will result in higher amp draw and will mean you will need some bigger batts probably. Clock.

Sorry I said something stupid. I meant ESC... But yes, something like that, Both reds together and both blacks, if you are using multiple batteries make a harness that will conect the batteries in the same way. The two leads that come out at the end of each colour are connected to each other, making both ESC's draw from both Batteries evenly. Clock.

He means you should connect both positive end of the receiver together and both negative ends together. When coupled to the batts in this manner your batteries will be drained evenly and will prevent one system from reaching it's low voltage threshold before the other. Clock.
