I share your discontent as I want a hanger 9 ultrastick badly but they apparently don't plan to bring it back anytime soon.and 3dhobby has done the same thing and it drives me nuts..but happily it makes me try other planes and suddenly I am a happier guy.

RE: Whats up with kits?
certainly there are fewr active balsa kits being marketed but that doesnt mean they are not to be found.I do sympathize that once a popular kit goes out of production it becomes more expensive..but doesnt that happen with older cars???look a little harder and you'll be suprised and find some kits to build.I might build from plans as well..I plan to build a warbird and know that top flite still produces a good P47 and Ziroli has some good stuff as well.Like I said you just have to dig a little but there are kits around.

I LIKE PLANES IN THE 60 TO 73 RANGE.EASIER TO SEE AND FLY.i HAVE AN EXPLORER AND THE PLANE MUST FIT OTHERWISE i DONT GET IT.CAN BE GAS OR NITRO OR EVEN ELECTRIC.i RECENTLY BUILT A SCALE PLANE AND FOUND i LOVE DOING THAT TOO.i DONT CARE WHAT EVERYONE FLIES i FINALLY DECIDED i WILL BUILD AND FLY WHAT PLEASES ME.

RE: [Awaiting Approval]
systems are so vastly improved.I havw owned proline, kraft. orbit and futaba .I strongly disagree that FM and am are reliable. Its too easy yo have outside interference.while 2.4 may have some issues I feel its vastly superior ..as for radio issues I suspect ( myself included) that the user causes the plane to to crash not the radio.

I re-read the posts and saw something mentioning airtronics.I said I fly futaba but I also flew aitronics for a long time and felt it was extremely reliable..It doesnt get much comment but I agree with the posts that its a very good system. If I didnt have futaba I would seriously consider a airtronics system.

RE: Is there a radio that does not lose signal?
I switched a number of years back to 2.4 and got all caught up in brown outs with my spectrum.I switched back to futaba and have never had an issue.does that make spectrum inferioor if you see all the pilots using spectrum they'll say they work great.and likely they do.does that mean that 72 fm is perect?hardly I remember all to well the frequency interence with FM.However with so many on 2.4 likely they wont have much competition for frequency channels..I think every system is suspectible to a frequency issue but overall the relaibilty of 2.4 is fantastic. Its really your choice which way to go the major brands are truly reliable!!! it gets down to cost ,number of channels and features..just do it!!!

I never find the pomp and circumstance of olypmic openings very dry regardless of the hosting country..this was no exception.the musical history tribute was wayyyy to long and I switched channels.I am glad that the events have gone off well and theres no controveresy.my pet bitch over here is the upcoming RNC convention here in tampa.I have come to the realization that its a waste of time.think about it..the candidates are already established by our wacky primary contests.so why are wating monies on it.talk about pomp and circumstance!just a big party and major inconvenience to us locals. so enjoy the festivites and ignore us you should feel alot of pride .I just like being quiet .must admit the canoe shalom is awesome !!

RE: Lipo Fire in Garage
thanks for sharing.I am in a new home and am taking extra precautions charging batteries.stupid as it sounds I really never thought about my charger unit itself.at any rate I stopped way back my practice of charging and walking away especially overnight.I charge while I am in the shop so I can detect a failure immediately.I also use a non flammable flat top so if something goes kafleuy I am right there to prevent a big problem..I use lipo bags and long term I just got a fireproof safe for extra piece of mind.and lastly our field has charging stations so I re charge right at the field when I can..sorry about your loss.no I dont charge my lipos or a123 for gas directly in the fuse.why take a foolish chance..

RE: Are all RC forum's activity in decline?
thanks...summertime and more flying gets my vote.and it could be the economic times we we live in that cost the hobby some members.I see the 3d fanatics in another forum posting less and not any new original 3d planes to get excited about.I plan to build more and fly a little less.I belonged to a club in ny and we had lots of members over the years but last year we nearly ran our funds dry and this year the guy that always mowed our field anytime it was needed can't do it anymore and a few longtimers have found other sporting activites so the field is used far less.even more importantly we are not getting new members and most of the elderly members dont fly or want to participate .we are lucky if we have a summer family day anymore.so I am very happy to be in florida with 2 very active clubs..

RE: Futaba FASST vs FHSS
as I sit here fresh from my knees surgery this am I saw the post and thought not another fasst vs.spectrum carping..but I actually didnt know the new 8J futaba was FHSS.no wonder its cheaper..I have 2 fasst 7c radios after a fisaco with spectrum a few years back I was thinking of a new 8ch.futaba but only if its fasst.speaking only for myself I have never had a single signal failure with futaba.my reason for a new 8 or 10 channel is that I fly gas along with my electrics and and can definitely benefit from having one more active channel with my 30cc plane.. thanks for the info.I didnt read the fine print..

what bugged me was that I asked numerous times what historic day it was back on june 6th.and everyone had to think.and I didnt much in the soical media to remind us about D-Day.thats very sad.for too many young soliders it was their first time in combat and seeing death all around them.I guess the reason I hate holidays is that the true meaning of the holiday is lost..that includes christmas too.thanks dad for your sacrifice and my freedom.

RE: better landing gear
aluminum gears have their pros and cons.I have used them for more than 2 decades but I have also installed carbon gears. It stands to reason if you land a 4-40 weighing nearly 13 pounds hard somethong likely will give.if you spread the gear just bend it back and try landing easier the next time.the gear did its job and absorbed most of your bad landing as it should.theres a few tricks to stiffen the gear.such as soldering a piano wire on the underside of the gear. I agree that carbon gear or fiberglass are costly but they are very approriate in some circumstances..mine come from hi tech graphics.and yyes I have often many times used nylon bolts and saved the plane.

RE: # Everyone-Should Read The following L-I-P-O DISASTER!!!
I fly electrics ,nitro and smaller gas engines.the fact that lipo fires happen only re-inforces the idea that you have to excercise caution using them.the poor guys big mistake was he left the batteries unattended and charged them on a plastic surface.none of us knows exactly why the fire happened.human error??? maybe..Is that a reason to abandon electric planes not by a long shot..gas and nitro have there own issues as well.I shake my head everytime I see a guy leaning over his 2 stroke starting it by hand no less..and big 50 cc motors being turned with a barehand is senseless under any situation.I have seen what a prop does to a persons hand.our hobby is safe when everyone plays smart and takes precautions to ensure safety both to others and himself.fires dont start for no reason.something wasnt done right and thats human error but we always always try to eliminate the potential for injury and fire to the extent possible.

RE: Lipo Fires Are Real![Fantastic Advice!] Can I ask for further help?
lipos are safe to use provided you understand and follow the rules for charging them.true ...you can't abuse them like many have with nicadss.but if you charge and balance your packs and do it correctly these products are safe.notwithstanding ...commonsense dictates you use store them inlipo sacks etc.I store them in sacks and for peace of mind leave them in a fireproof lockbox. I feel safe charging in my garage or sometimes in the kitchen on my stovetop.a fireproof surface. But I AM ALWAYS and I MEAN ALWAYS IN ATTENDANCE!!! as for my other batteries I dont charge them and go to bed like I used to years ago.all batteries should be treated carefully!! I am fortnuate now that our club has charging stations at the field.now I do my charging on site so as not to have to bother at home but always while travelling use lipo sacks and a small safe!I aint no fool!

RE: Four Star 120, or Spacewalker 2?
my vote is for the spacewalker2.thanks to tom crump I kept adding scale additions and fortnuately its a good first kit for adding scale.it tends to build heavy but then again you have a lot of wing area.Mine flies with a satio 150 and I love it.! you can go gas too with a G26. I had a 4-120 and its heavy as well.and no one would dispute it as as an easy flyer.I just like the detail on the sig spacewalker..eventually I may build the 1/3 scale version as tom has done. both are all round easy sunday flyers!!oh ...the spacewalker just has a heck of alot more more wood.lol

RE: Why the near obsession with over powering airplanes?
i understand what you are saying and over many years always ask why.but that being said many pilots will increase the planes power.if its done right thats fine.done right meaning you have beefed up critical areas to ensure the wings wont fold etc.but just slapping a big kick ass motor with no appreciation for the consequences is never good.likewise however I wonder why people chose to underpower a plane as well.why struggle to keep it flying and telling someone "its scale".baloney it's senseless. so as far as speedI feel the need sometimes but my model of choice is one designed just for that.and I do go with the bigger recommended motor and use throttle to control things.

some really good ideas.I was at lowes earlier and stumbled onto raw wood cabinets and that gave me another idea .I am going to incorpororate them into the bench and either find a solid door core as a top or just build a solid top so I can have draws too.

RE: Where is a good place to break in an engine?
its been a while but my last 2 stroke I mounted it took it to the field ran a tank thru thethered to a stake away from the everyoneand then set it rich so as not to quit and flew it rich and after a several flights it gradually got better.you do not need to break it in on a separate mount and burn lots of fuel.use the prop your planning to fly it with too.

RE: do all warbirds need extra nose weight
dont worry about..yeah warbirds commonly ,but not always need nose weight. Its inherent with the design but it doesnt mean its bad ! arrange your gear ,tanks receiver and anything else you can to create a good balance.try a higley nose weight .do whatever it takes but do it 'cause the worst thing is to try to fly without the weight balanced.not all warbirds need nose weight but it often happens and its just something to be aware of when you build.

first 1800 is rather small plane.I am using 4s 4500packs.but either way the charging and care for lipos is the same.I have flown electrics 7 years nowand never caused a fire or had any issues.because I follow the directions and respect the potential problems they could have.do things right and lipos are as good as any other power source.store them correctly.dont leave them charging unattended and do the things that your supposed to do and you'll be fine.
