RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I don't prime the engine either when using the starter, no chance of hydro locking an inverted engine if there is no fuel in it. I used the chicken stick for a long time to start my Saito, but got tired of damaging $13 props with it. Cory

Be careful cutting with the tool rotation. If you have any play or lash in a machine it will suck the cutter in. Cutting with the rotation is usually reserved for cnc machines with ballscrews. Cory

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Here is a picture of the engine I got recently. The seller is stating that this scraping is from tighten the prop nut down which pulled against the bearings and being pulled by the prop. Also that the crank can heat up and expand causing the scraping. Am I crazy? Or is this not normal? Cory Also that seems to be fuel staining on the crank and bearings, but why not on the rod and crank like I've always seen?

I've got a 42" slick and love it, but the edge has more 'character'. There is a thread somewhere on putting a Saito 82 on a 59" Slick, he boxed in the motor mount and a few other things. But says it holds up fine. Cory
ORIGINAL: phatg0nk i agree, i just paid for the extra 260 which really feels and looks alot like the edge accept the forward swept wing. And the COST was 275 or so. RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
So I looked through the sellers history on rcgroups and found this.
So I bought a saito 100(used) for my sons 540 extra and was moving it across the table when my arm brushed the wing of the plane. The plane started to roll and I set the motor down to catch the plane and push it back on the bench when I did I pushed the saito off on to the floor . At first inspection I thought everything was fine but upon a closer look the intake tube is bent and has a crack in it. I went to buy one but it seems there is a Right one and a Left one... how do I tell which one I have?
The motor I bought was listed as being on his sons edge... well now I know its been dropped too. wonderful :(
ORIGINAL: w8ye It may need bearings then?
I feel almost no play in the bearings, but I can see movement in the big end of the rod. To be safe I'd need to replace both. I'm going to try and return the motor first. If not I'll tear it all the way down and see how the rest of it looks. What little of the cylinder I can see looks good. Win some, loose some. Thanks Cory Edit: i should clarify that I work on machinery for a living and can feel a couple thou. Don't have the tools here to get real numbers.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I just bought a used 100. It's got good compression and seems in good shape except for being a little dirty and having a lot of carbon on the exhaust valve stem when I look into the exhaust port. Is there anyway to de-carbon the engine without disassembling it? It is supposed to be relatively new and I don't want to reseat the ring. Kind thinking someone ran a high ratio of castrol oil in it. Thanks Cory

RE: AeroWorks Edge 540T 46-60?
Not sure what's going on with rcuniverse, but I quit getting email sabout this thread getting replies. Update on changing the servo gears: It was easy and the bearings came right off. The increased speed was worth it too, it hovers very nice now. Cory EDIT: Looking at the OS 95V, I think I'd stay with the Saito being that it is lighter, very well proven, and more powerful than the OS. I also don't like the gear train in the OS 4-strokes. I know it may work fine, but such gears are to be avoided IMO. Now the tappets don't even run in line with the pushrods. I understand that for OS'es other engines it was worth the complex gears and putting endloads on the camshaft to neatly line everything up, but this seems like an ugly design to me.

I think im going to like my replacement Awedge more than my first) Probally gonna go saito .91 -I had magnum .91 first time, and now i have a saito lying arround in a splintered big stick..But i dont think any engine dmg was done.
Good to see some activity here. I was actually working on mine when it got the notification. I was changing the gears in the Hitec hs-5645 to gears for the hs-5625 to get a bit more speed. The bearings for the servos I ordered weren't needed as the old ones came out easily and are not as high of quality as the Hitec bearings. Plus some computer involved with getting the parts must be hacked since my debit card started developing charges from places I've never been. I'm starting to think I'll put it back the way it was Cory

It makes sense that it would run hotter, I was just wondering if it was close to being a problem. I see the crank has a different part number also. Can anyone compare the cylinders and see if the fins are longer? I've never seen mention of Saito changing that on the FG line. Cory

A CG of 3.5" is a good start point. I'm back around 4" now. KE with just a touch towards the gear, inverted/upright is neutral. I sealed the hinge gaps with clear monokote, it helped with wing rock in harriers quite a bit. This is a real big thread. ;) Cory
