Looks good. If you follow all the instruction on the wing mount, you wont have any issues. Its really pretty secure.Just make sure to re enforce the engine mount.

RE: Great Planes 40 PETE N POKE Sport Build!
Looks good so far.If I could make a suggestion. We are building a bunch of PNP's on another forum. One thing a we've found out is Great Planes way over built this thing. However there is a major weekness. The engine mount is too weak. Make sure you reenforce this area. I laminated the area with 1/4 lite ply. Some have cut off the original mount and used after market engine mounts. Whatever you do, be sure to reenforce the areas. One guy completed his, and when he flew it the engine started working loose on him. Good luck.

I am having the same issue as Eric. I redownloaded it several time to be sure it wasn't a bad install. I also have restarted my PC, and have tried to install while G4 was running. No luck. Any suggestions? ( Running Visa )

I just ordered mine last night. Can't wait to get started on it. Does anyone have a drawing so I can play with it in the paint program to come up with color design? And, here's one that should get a few answers :) Any suggestions on mod's?

Very nice looking table. I remember seeing you post the link for the palns, but can't find it now. Can you please repost. I started building with magnets last year. I only picked up 100.I would highly suggest more. But if your not in a hurry, you can make do, with some planes in the 40 size area.

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
OK LG question. I have my wire bent.Going to use the style on the Fokker. Have my jig built to hold it while I solder. Now, it says to wrap it tightly with silver, or copper uncoated wire. Is it a special wire, or could I use speaker wire with the coating stripped off?

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
I have the fuse built, mostly.Re-cut out all the ribs and false ribs.First time something wasnt right, so I cut them all by hand. I just ordered magnets, they should arrive monday, so I ll hold up building my wing until I get the magnetic board all set up. So I think I ll work on the Landing Gear.Figure out how I'm going to mount it to the fuse. I want to be sure it will break away on a tough, landing.

RE: Sig something extar Build
Is the gap at the TE? If so it may pull in when you draw the wings together with rubberbands, zipties or whatever. They should sit flush before hand though.Check the fit without the wing joiner tube installed.I had somewhat of the same problem. The wing joiner tube was slighty bent.

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
I'm using a different set of plans, but the call for a 1/2" ply firewall. Thanks for clearing up the LG location. It will be a tail dragger, so axles have to line up under the LE.I still plan on using/making wire landing gear, so my mounting locations will prob be diff, but as long as the axles are in the right place I should be golden. Also, thin I m going to have to recut my formers. When I laid them out I didn t pay attention to the grain.

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
Well, I cut the formers out so far.I used the scroll saw to cut to about 1/16' to the template, then sanded to the lines.I couldn t find a scrap piece of 1/2 ply so I used 2 1/4's and used epoxy the laminate. Turned out well.Ran out of time before I was handed the honey dew list, So I didn t get the inside cuts done yet. Also going to wait until pushrods get here before I drill the holes. It's going to be a slow build, have to work alot of overtime this weekend. I should have a few days next week for building. Then I ll have all the wood I ve ordered together and finish up hopefully next week on the kit cutting. OK, so heres another question. I hate sanding leading edges.Thought about useing a dowel instead. Would anyone recomend against this, or is this OK. If I were sheating spar forward I have no problems, just overlap and sand the lip.But since I m not, would I be OK by cutting the rib LE to hold the dowels? Not sure if I've described it correctly but the end result would be half the diam of the dowel sitting in the rib LE. KDC, I was planning on waiting until I get the actual stock, the usung a piece with some sandpaper glued to the bottom to fit the piece. I will have to look at the thread on the gear.I was thinking I might have to come back a little further from the fire wall with the light ply to accomidate the gear and then re-enforce it with another piece of lite ply and triangle stock.Going to stay away from te balsa spar idea.Rather be safe than on edge every time I fly.

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
I do have a delta Scroll saw, fixed speed. I have several different blades.I just was to sure how balsa cut.Fine blades might not tear, but then again may gunk up.Coarse blades tend to rip and chip. But I m thinking the soft balsa should be fine.I have it setup now to cut lite ply and it did fine.Think I would be ok on the same set up.Also have a router table, but I think its a bit dangerous to put fingers that close to a sharp high rpm blade[X(]

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
Thanks again, I actually forgot about Sig. I was just unsure about the Balsa spar.I ve heard bad news about it from other people. But adding webbing would give it a good I beam, so sounds like it should work well. I ll search available supplies and see from there. I already have my rib temp cut and sanded to shape.I just need to get my wood stacks together and cut the out on the scroll saw. What blade would you recomend?

So it s OK to use Balsa as long as it s re-enforced? Couldn t I get the same from Bass wood.I seem to remember using that in a kit or 2 for the spars.

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
That's a big help. I want to do the wire gear with a set of wire rims.So I ll have to make sure it gets painted[:D] unless i can find the covering to match .. I ordered the 5/32" wire from tower yesterday, doesn t come in a 3 pack, unless you want brass. So I ll have plenty of practice wire. But one step at a time, gotta get the fuse build first. But I guess it doesn t hurt to think ahead, right?

I am building a tail dragger, I was planning on a 2 wire set up. Looks like a " V " from the side. I was planning on using 1/8" on both front and rear wires. But for less flex, I ll go with the 5/32"

RE: RCM Das Ugly Stick
KDC, Your right on the ribs, there no specifing on the 2 types needed. But looking over the plans, I did notice it.I ll just cut all the same with one spar, then disassemly the stack and make the additional cuts. I will be using dual servos on the ailerons, and will use a paper made tube for the wires. Sky, So are you suggesting I would be best to go with 5/32" for the landing gear? I just want to besure it'll hold up, and I wont have to keep rebending the gear every other landing.
