RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
ORIGINAL: jbarnes $750 is a great price, I paid $680 three years ago when our local HobbyTown did a dealer cost sale. The $680 included all shipping costs also. I think dealer cost on it was around $600 and it was $80 in shipping. At that time ordering it throug WorldModels was $900 to my door. Jerry.
I just ordered a 1/3 blue and white clipped wing from the same store- $600 + $150 shipping. $750 total. I agree, the "Toughlon" covering is crap, but my 1/3 Super Cub is~ 5 years old and most of the covering is original... But I must admit- about every day flying I end up recovering a little more LOL! Oh- did I mention that I got 3rd place in Sportsman IMAC flying my Super Cub wit a DA-100? Or that I fly it in an annual Harvest airshow with a 9-11 commemoration?

RE: Top Flite GS P-47 RTC
Wow- I just found this thread- nice jugs! I bought one used a few months ago and have been renovating ever since- I know it doesn't look like it, but I've got over 100 hours into this thing. I just finished laying down my base coats of paint, and was deliberating on doing panel lines and etc... But after seeing how beautiful your planes are, I might just pass. I'm not going to be entering any contests with it- but I do plan on flying the WWII re-enactment at Warbirds. I will try to post some pics of mine- It's a work in progress- I added some extra armament just in case...

RE: WRC Wike R/C Products IBEF Ignition Battery Eliminating Filter
ORIGINAL: captainjacobs For your information, I tried the IBEF (version 2) with a 5 cylinders moki 250, it doesn't work fine. Not enough energy to the plugs for the engine to run normally. No problem with my DLE55. Hope it will help. Arnaud
No offense, but are you serious? You tried using a small IBEC designed for single and maybe 2 cylinder applications and decided to use it on a 5 cylinder engine? No wonder it didn't work! Holy cow- you should be using an complete stand alone ignition system with HD switches, and dual ignition batteries! I'm not a flamer, but geeze! C'mon man!

RE: WACO YMF
After searching the internet I couldn't find any lazer cutters with the files for the UPF. The only plans I found were for the rubber powered one. The old Morgan plans might be floating around somewhere, but I didn't have any luck finding them. AMR did respond to my e-mail and said look for a 25-27% UPF sometime in 2011. I don't really want to go that 'small,' I'm used to bigger planes, and love they way they fly and present in the air. If we build this project it's going to be flown. I do 3D and aerobatic demo's for my clubs annual airshow and other local events. It would be great to bring this one to Big Bird and full scale airshows to demos with. As it is now I think kit bashing the AMR is the way to go unless someone starts kitting them of had a decent cut file we can mod for the scale. Changing their airframe will be a chore, but much less of one then drawing up plans for a new one! Now if I save $100 a month it will only be a year and a half before I can afford the kit! Maybe I could sell some stuff off...

RE: WACO YMF
Skylarkmk1 and Waco Joe- thank you both very much for that fantastic information. I will look into the plans you mention and see what laser parts/plans are available. Obviously it would be much easier of a kit were already available- I'm trying to avoid scratch building this as much as possible. I want to see it done before kingdom come! If it comes right down to it maybe we can just tweak the AMR for a sport-scale version. Maybe compete in Pro-am or something NOT judged on the table! My dad used to design and laser cut horse drawn wagon kits for model railroads. It is a possibility to draw up some new formers or ribs. He still has access to the Laser Cutter- but I feel like I would be asking too much volunteering him to draw up and cut an entire kit. Just doing the drawings would take a Herculean effort on it's own. I have already sent an e-mail to AMR. We'll see what they say- their current Waco's are beautiful!

RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
I have been readin this thread for the last two days now- Started about 8PM, went to about 2 AM, got the munchkin out to school and after two more hours of reading I'm finished! Fanstastic Waco Anthony- and Mitch, and of course Lonnie! Amazing quality! Your builds are an inspiration. I've been looking for a scale project for my dad and I to do together. He is beyond a master model builder and I'm the flyer. I'm hoping to team up with him and do Kyle Franklin's UPF-7. Not the one with the turbine like The Hahn's have, but the wing walker version. I'm very interested to see if AMR comes out with a 33% version like they implied a few pages back... I was set on using the Moki as a power plant, but after reading about their dubious reliability I might stick with what I know- DA! I've been flying them in competition for five years now and the only dead sticks I have had so far (2) was from ignition wiring vibrating loose after hundreds and hundreds of flights! Fantastic work guys- truly. I hope I am lucky enough to see one of your birds in person someday!

RE: WACO YMF
It has been months since I last checked in here, and I am glad to see so many new completed projects! Waconut- I learned wood working building a set of taper wings for an ASO being converted to a ATO or QTO. Waco's are HUGE and you will be going through gallons of West Systems epoxy! It is a project and a half- and don't forget the Antique Aircraft Association as a resource. They have a fly in every year, and there are tons of Waco's and people that are passionate enough to help others projects succeed. Not to mention the Bi-plane fly in every year in Iowa. I have been looking for a scale project for my dad and I to do together. I have been fixated on Waco's since I first flew one when I was 15. I'm hoping you guys can help clarify something for me- what are the differences between the UPF-7 and the YMF-5 besides motors and what basic airframe changes were made between '34 and '36? I am saving up for a AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 that I want to convert to a UPF-7, but have not found any 3-views to compare them. Below is a video of the plane I am hoping to re-create. Kyle Franklin and his wife rock! I hope i get to see them in person someday! You guys rock- it really is inspirational to see what many of you have accomplished! Enjoy the video- makes me happy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zup0DU8_AJQ one thing that sucks about this place is that I can't embed video!!!

RE: WACO Custom Cabin Project
I imagine building those ribs is quite a task. More then a dozen pieces each- and more then one is custom cut. You must have at least 100 hours into the old set of wings. They look so fantastic I think you should build a static model and leave it naked. Solder up a fuse like you were talking about and place it in a glass box. Maybe send it to the Smithsonian!

The balsa spars on your model did surprise me, but I subconsciously told myself you were primarily building a display model. Some spruce or bass would not go amiss. I would hate to see this masterpiece fold in the air. Makes me start to wonder if my big foamies wings are up to snuff! Ahh, what they heck, they work on the Mud Duck!

Thats a fantastic Robin Hood! I have a client that traded me a 99" complete with working Micropro 8000. The cowling is not pictured- it has an American Engines 38cc I believe- spark ign. Anyone want to buy it? I've done structural repairs and had the radio and RX gone through. I even have the original Sanyo 5 cell 1800 mah nicad packs. They still cycle to capacity! I have designs on slapping some 1/4 scale cub floats on it!

RE: Waco YKS-7
More progress. Spent all day in the shop (took a mental health day) and barely did a thing. I accomplished cutting all the spar mortises in the root ribs, then realized I did it from the wrong side!!! Ugh! I had to lay out and cut 8 more ribs, sand them to match the others, then I could mortise the new ribs correctly! That wasted a few hours. Anyways, got the "D" tube sections cut and bent, milled and laid up 8 short spars of two layers of 3/16" aircraft ply and 30 minute epoxy- with about 5 minutes of working time! I miss my West Systems 205, but $70 is a little rich for me right now. Got a wing laid out- I figure if everything goes to plan tonight and I get some foam safe CA today then I can start assembling the wing panels! Well, that is AFTER I get the strut mounts designed and installed... I will probably drill some 1/2" holes in the LE of the wing ribs for servo wires down the road. I will say that despite my proclamations of the past I will probably never scratch build a "real" balsa giant scale plane! A kit, maybe. But this foamy has already eaten about 40-60 hours and $300 in plans, wood, and foam.
