RE: my bottle rocket air boat
TRUST ME THIS,,,Your playing with your life....myself and a friend used to do your copper pipe trick, while crimping the end of one of these so called noise makers it blew in my friends face, he was less than an arms lenth away from it, it removed his face... and the top of his head as well, some of the schrapnel went thru the floor above his head and tore a hole in his mothers dishwasher... he's dead now. 1987 was the year...trust me, we thought like u, that we knew what we were doing... they came up with a half dozen reason as to why it could have blown. who knows, fact is he's gone.

RE: Big swamp buggy with SuperTigre G90 ?
I just broke in my G-90 last sunday, with a apc 13x6 prop, it is a very powerful engine, It blew my mind. in fact my 36 inch 6 pound foamy does a back flip at just under 1/2 throttle, so whats a guy to do, build a bigger 43 inch hull of course... I hope it works better.

RE: how big
thats what I was hoping, this is my first build with a .90, everything up till now has been a .46 or smaller, so the .90 looks huge.

I was talking today to a person in the display industry, and they were telling me about this pvc compresses foam board material called sintra, It sounds like geat stuff to build an airboat with and was wondering if anyone has ever used it before? and if so what were the results?

I would love to see those video's, I run on the snow when it's fresh and soft, tough to control on the hard pack that forms after a week of no new snow, and today were in a ice storm, so we'll see on running maybe sunday morning before the boys( the pats) finish there perfect season.

RE: HELP WILL THIS WORK????????
what size shaft do heli moters have? I've seen on some that the carb. throttle arm looks different, and that most have a square head, that I assume is for more cooling area. but I don't know how they would run with a regular prop.

RE: Doubledog's building a luftboot
It looks great, I'm sure any of the engines you mention including the 23 would push it along great. don't forget to put some kind of floatation(foam or pool noodles cut up) into that hull, so you won't have to wave bye-bye, if for some reason something happens.

RE: What boat for a boating noob
check out the nitro speed forum, they have just about every rtr covered in there, plus you'll get to see the good and bad of each one, plus how to hop them all up for more performance, there are some treads in there that go on and on. great reading and learning.

just an outsiders view of all thing, but I would think a person with over thirty, (that was over 30?) doing with only RTR boats[8|]? I would think he would have gotten bored with RTR's a few years ago, anyhow I'm really enjoying this tread, very interesting, and I'm eagerly awaiting the pudding[;)], or in this case it sounds like it should be humble pie.[:D]

yes, please tell about that muffler, I'm about to get a g-90 and that is a sweet looking set up, your metal work is real nice, I did'nt realize that your boat was that small, I had it in my head and from the pictures it was much larger than it is, cudos to the great work.

RE: what to do
another question, what type of servo would I want to run for the rudders on a motor this size, what would be the minimum amount of torq., do I need 1/4 scale or just hi-torq, I was thinking 60-80 oz. but I'm not sure.

RE: what to do
ok so it's decided, the .90 will be it, question 2, as I have never had an engine this size, what size props would you all recommend, 2 blade or three ? and pusher or puller? All my boats up till this point have been tractors, but I'm not against a pusher, are there any advantages to either one, beyond the normal prop selection?(more variety for pullers).

RE: Doubledog's building a luftboot
I'm certainly no expert, but I'm thinking you might be a little too big on the dimentions. I think most people are using the prop length plus a couple of inches for the width, I see your using a 14 inch prop so that should put you at 16to 19 inches wide. the length could be drop a few inches as well, maybe a little closer to 40 inches, just my thoughts we'll see what others have to say.

RE: what to do
cajun, I think I saw some of your boats at you web site, you were pretty much the only one I remember running .90's I will most likely end up buying both of those at some point, but for now I've got the post christmas emty pocket blues. what size boat will that engine push well on dry ground ? everything I've got now is .46 powered, there all about 30 inches long and 14 inches wide and maybe 3-4 pounds. I look forward to picking your brain.

what to do
happy new year, I have a friend, who has two, never used, in the box super tigre engines a g-75, and a g-90, he's willing to sell me. I only want one, both the same price about $90.00, which one would you buy? I'm thinking the 90 about the same weight as the 75 only more h.p., I don't see many of you building airboats with engines this size, any reason why? looking forward to your answers.

RE: Foam hull / boat
I would use the gorilla type glues, if you drill a bunch of hole ( about a quarter to half inch deep) in the two pieces to be joined(where they will be glued) this gives the glue more surface area to adhear too, and it give the glue somewhere to expand. apply the glue to only one of the pieces and spray the other with water and clamp-em for a couple of hours. for you finish coat use epoxy, not polyester resin or you will end up with a big blob of goo.

I would think a skim board would be too heavy. My kids skim board are made out of 3/8 ply and I would guess their weight to be over 5 pounds. I'm sure they would run, but not to quick.

I think your a little oversized with the .46, but what a perfect reason to enter in the boogie board contest,[sm=lol.gif] and I would mount the .25 on the smaller boat, now you'll have 2, and we all know two are better than one[sm=teeth_smile.gif]

don't feel bad I'm in the same boat [sm=drowning.gif] (don't mind the pun). central mass. here in the states is no airboat meca either, I know there are a couple of groups running nitro and gas boats in eastern massachusetts, but no airboaters. I just keep trying to run my boats were I can get other people to see me, and I hope someone will get the bug and want to try it, I figure that the best I can do.

I'd like to see someone run the inflicted airboat on snow with air rudders, I'd be willing to bet it would scream, my flat bottoms run atleast 10 mph faster on the white stuff, but its a trip get them to stay in what you might call control.
