RE: HERR Starcruiser
I glued the flaps to the wing, decided it was too much. Now it has 4 HS-55s, 2 ailerons and 1 each engine. Lets hope they dont fail because they are buried in the pilon. Herr kits are fantastic, easy to build, lightweight. You can find them ant www.sigmfg.com.

RE: HERR Starcruiser
A little update. I was so comfortable with the stability of the plane that I let my cousin with almost no flying experience to take the plane and I made the fatal mistake of looking away. He locked his fingers on full up and full aileron and spun it to the ground before I could tke the tx back. The result is half a wing and the front half of the fuse had to be rebuilt. So, with a lot of time in my hands and, according to my friends, not enough problems in my life, I decided to go twin .061s. This is progress so far, Ill post more as I advance. Right engine hs 5 deg right, left has 2 deg left thrust. Both have 2 deg down thrust

Show your Precocious little pilot
Hi all, Im happy to say that my 2 year old is fascinated by planes. He is not a genious like that little Chinese kid fron Jersey, but Im still VERY proud. He has access to all my planes and has never broken one (since he learned a little balance, that is). He goes with me to the field every time, and lets everybody know when I'm going to land. He loves to fly with me and I let him, even the heli. If you are as proud as I am, show us your kid with his dad's toys Cheers

RE: Looking for ideas to keep oil off my planes
I dont like paper towels, they are way too rough and scratch the monokote. I use my old fruit-of-the-loom t-shirts cut into squares (each one yields 2 rags) removing all the seams. They are pure cotton and will not scratch the film. They obviously work on paint and cloth finishes, or glassed models. Just throw them in the washing machine with your whites and reuse them. Its a lot more ecofriendly than all those paper towels and the more you wash them the softer they get. Instead of window cleaner (dont like the amonia smell) I use pure isopropyl alcohol, bought at SAMS by the quart. I used to install deflectors on my planes, but dont any more. Have you ever sucked on a spagetti to pull it to your mouth only to end up with all your clothes full of sauce? That is what happes to the plane. At high speed the deflector shakes violently and spreads the oil all over the place. This tiger is over 4 year old, and I fly it practically every Sunday. I think you'll agree it still shines like new. BTW, I dont polish it Mariano

How do you make the male inserts on your molds, Rapptor? Also, I tried vinil wrap once to separate a balsa mold from epoxy and ended up tearing the cloth apart. What is the best sparating agent I can get?

I like Monokote, and get excelent results every time. And I buy new rolls all the time. Stretch sideways a lot more than longitudinally, and let the plane sit in the sun before using the heat gun the first time

RE: Twin cylinder in a J3 cub.
The Saito 60 T is very nice but has less power than a 2 stroke 40 and weighs more than double, so you MUST build a light plane and be prepared for a really scale flight with long takeoff rolls and easy stalls. I had it on the goldberg aniversary edition which is almost the same as GP 40 size. I would recommend the 90 TS, that costs 50 bucks more but will do the job a lot better. You will have to move the firewall back because these 2 engines are a lot longer than the intended single cilinder. also you will need to balance with the battery on the back But the sound is unbelievable, I won't use a single cilinder on a Cub again. Go for it

RE: Goldberg Extra 300
One mod I have never tryed is placing the tank in th CG. I will be using the YS 120 SF supercharged as on the previous Extras. The question is, does the supercharger provide enough pressure to draw the fuel from that distance? Or is a "PUMPED" engine required? Also, the 2 tank option is widely used on helis, where engine performancee is SOOOO important, and is the perfect solution to the feeding problem. I use it, and have seen that after a hard aerobatics flight the small tank (I use 2 oz), that started completely full, ends up havins a very small portion of air, say 1/16 in on top. That is effectively the air that didn't go into the engine. Use it and you'll solve the downward flame-out problem.

RE: Goldberg Extra 300
I've had 2 of these and Im starting the third. Yes, the wire is too weak for landing gear, it bends backwards and the wood covering the wire will come loose eventually, looking horrible. I use the LG that comes with the great planes extra 60, it's almost the same size and works perfectly. I use a piece of aluminum (very thin and light, like the ones use to rail shower doors) C-beam to support the screws, as they are only 2. Never needed to fix the LG. I think the reason they discontinued this fabulous plane was to avoid competition for their own Extra, but having flown both I say they should have copied this one and sold it as GP or discontinued theirs instead. There's no comparison

RE: 1/2a B-29 AP.061 X 4 ????
How about a B 25 and see if you can get just 2 to work together? Anyway, a 3 view of the plane will give you basic proportion so you can go farely scale. Good luck, you'll need it. [:D]

RE: Anyone Else Having Trouble With Super Monokote?
One important thing about monokote, is that if you pull "like a monkey", you have to be consistent. If you pull too much lengthwise, and not as hard spanwise, then the material ends up stressed. When you change temperatures, For example in the sun, the film will relax and wrinkle all over. This will happen to any film, it has happened to me a couple of time, when became too eager to finish a project. I hope this helps

For 2 m planes a cradle works best. It's easier to install, Launch, control at high altitude, an no mods are needed on the powered plane. And as you an see, almost any .40 or larger plane does the job

RE: Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber cloth
if its on the inside, both will hve the strength of the resin you use, so use glass that is cheaper. On the outside the cloth will support the tension, and there is where carbon really excels.

RE: Covering Foam wings with Fliteskin
Very sharp leading edges, wing tips with compound curves should be glassed the traditional way after the top and bottom of the wing have been skinned (see applications page). If a metallic leading edge is desired, Aluminum tape can be used to achieve scale looking results. This is from their website

RE: PIGGYBACK LAUNCH CRADLE PICS
hehe, it's a tiger 40, actually. It has a Saito 60 twin which weighs twice as a 2 stroke 40 and has less power. We fly at 8300 ft (Bogota). The plane has a hard time getting up to speed with the glider on it, but it gets a lot of extra lift from it. It takes off well before stall speed for the plane alone, climbs slowly but steadily to whatever height you can see it, and then you just throttle down and release. The tiger drops instantly out of the way of the Spirit. I used 0 deg for the base but I'll use -3 or -4 for the next one as the glider has to be with full down elevator all the time or they will climb to a stall. We fly near the base of a mountain range where people fly hangglider and parafoil, so I get 1 hour flight off the sailplane easily. The only thing is that thermal gliding at this altitude is impossibly. Air is just too thin. The reason I used this plane is that my other one is a goldberg extra and I was not about to risk that one with the glider. But I would prefer something with a little more lift of its own and a lot more power. This one is pretty IMO but not ideal. Also, a low wing tug requires a higher base, with the added problems of flexion (did I say it right) and structural integrity. But on the end it does the job and looks cool
