RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Cheers guys.. I think thats all that i have ever used (not for boats) on car bumpers and other things, that same tin with about a metre of cloth... I was thinking..lets say i lengthened this hull.....now i use release agent or wax on the inside of both halfs of the hull....brushed it with resin ...let it dry 15 mins...then layed the whole interior with fine cloth....brush more resin keeping it smooth as pos and let to dry...24h Would that not give me an almost perfect finish on the outside once i seperated it from the hull...?? i could then build up thicker cloth afterwards for strength.....what you think guys..? Rebel Bay..thats a nice piece from HOR but i dont like it..its more tunnel F1 boat style with motor on top...it would work..but it will look naff..the motor will sit higher than the round engine covers on the Systems Cat...something like that but with internal motor like the old graupner Z-Drives...they were perfect but were geared so no good there...im still toying with my GTX650 idea..or two stingers and a center rudder..

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Thanx Espresscraft..great photos..i really like your models and ive got your webpage bookmarked...only its the very early Systems model and a little off my price limit...yours could be modified to look the same as the "Simac Reporter'' or ''Chevy Systems''Cat but that $350 is for hardware for the cat i already got...ouch maybe somehow if i use the internal ply ribs and make more of them all full length of the hull and scale them down then i could build a wooden version of this cat to the length i want and then make a mold..lol this will take forever.. Is there any type of liquid that i can pour into the hull, that sets hard enough to make a plug..lol Or does anyone have the plans to a Cougar cat that i can have to make this one in ply & balsa..?

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
yea the Drive unit Rebel Bay has is the same for the Key West Cat..the unit i picture is for both single and duel motor setups, single being the standard and duel speed was the hopup option... but you can adapt any drive unit for the Systems Cat, im just not sure what to use yet...and the single aluminum rudder just doesnt do anything for me, i need to think about the drive units too before i cut & build the boat, the top round motor hatches will be removable and will open like the real Cat.. i hope.. I may modify two gtx650 outboards, drilling straight through the prop mount to the back, adding tubing and teflon flex, and remove top cover.. like in my mock picture here..it will look like this..

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Thats a Very nice Cat by the way...good colors I do have the alu stinger rudder pictured in first post... Rebel Bay i posted some pics again..what ive got and seen on the original is the Hydro-Speed II 1782 that i pictured earlier, its the 26euro steerable outdrive units without the flex, and i have two of them, there not scale but they look good in the water, i know there only teflon and can withstand up to 100kw of power, so i guess they will bust with the Leopard motors, or i will modify two GTX650 outboard motors to run inboard...these will look scale once i finished, and theres nothing in them just motor & flex so no gears...i will remove the top GTX cover and mod the flex so it comes out the transome in a straight line into the GTX650 units.. fitting one each side like the real deal...just not sure if the 650 is big enough..i think it is..the motor will not be ontop !! you can just see very simular drives on the real Cat in my photo here.. On the other note, i can only find two other hulls that are simular to Systems Cat...and they are 48 and 60inch boats (1175mm) and 60'' is 1524mm, the first one is 240 wide same as Graupner Systems so they made it longer...thats Thunder Tiger Desperado Cat The other is Expresscraft but there systems cat is the very old one...these both cost over $300 not to mention the import frieght.. http://www.expresscraft.com/systems-cat.html http://www.ruberkon.com/desperado-rc-speed-boat-electric-brushless-motor.html So im still at a loss...trouble is ...once i cut this, there is no going back...i will have to make it work..

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Thanx guys for the info... Yea...i've checked these Systems Cats out on youtube...and some people like to turn real sharp with them and make em dart left and right....thats not what i want it to do...this will do something more of a Daytona course...long straights. But why would you say the lengthened cat will hook and roll..? there were a couple of versions from Cougar and one was a lot longer but using steerable stingers..the older one used type z-drives.. because if you look at the real one it is slightly longer, somewhere in the middle needs to be lengthened on the Graupner model and i suppose they wanted to keep the cost down when making it, they would never have made a 1m version then said no good lets make it shorter..would they ? making it something of 970-1000mm instead of 830mm, these cats are wide and i would think difficult to roll...but you may know what your talking about if you seen it happen.. for the outdrives, i'm not going to spend loads on this..i will strenthen the transom either with carbon plates or ply and maybe using two original steerable Hydrospeed outdrives...or two stingers with a rudder in the middle...powered by two Leopard 2200kv..!! if i lengthen it then the hull be complete fiberglass or carbon..ouch lol so not the original abs flimsy stuff.. So all that said do you know of a Cat that has the same style base & transom ? top is no problem as that can be easy to mod..i did see one larger Systems Cat the same but i cant find it anywhere.. I'm not out to proove anything, i just really beleive this Cat should have been longer..and more to scale..i will be making it as scale as possible to revive this beast..the old type model has grown on me more than the new Mystic Cat.

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Thanx m8...thank you for your advice...shame your the only one interested.. I think i will get some abs sheet and do a test with fiberglass and how much heat it creates...to see if it warps or melts abs... I love this Cougar Style Cat its Vintage 1986...so i dont want to buy just any hull...it has to be the same, because the other Cats transom's are totaly different and i would be crazy to chop up a new type to make a vintage Cat.. Either that or i need to find plans to build the same Cat out of wood, like the max cat v2 or Lithium Cat and now i even have a mystic plan..but a Cougar Cat i cant find... I want the length as that adds speed and weight plus will look more scale, on a german forum they added 30cells.. As for the drive system, i found the original Hydrospeed set cheap and maybe i will use two of them instead of those expensive outdrives i pictured lost post or modified GTX 650 outboard motors..those will make it look real when i finished modding them to have inboard motors...but cost 70 quid each. Feel free to add anything to this build please..i need as much help as possible..cheers I will post pics when i start the build.

Oh i was thinking about twin Z- Drives for this Cat...i want it close to real as possible...i will modify the top of the boat so you can remove the engine bay covers on both sides.. Exceed have some CNC outdrives on there Viper & Seahorse powerboats...and even Proboat.. But maybe i have to use twin Stingers...what you think ?

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Its this that im not sure about you said use the inside as a female mold....so if i do this...i need to make the outside stronger and kept straight... Now talking about heat....damn....now i remember when i was fiberglassing bumpers for cars the temperature was so high i couldnt touch it... Thats gunner warp or melt the abs...lol Is that the same even for vacuum forming ? My plan was cut hull, plank the outisde, fill inside with some abs sheet, filler, sand smooth, gel coat, using non hardening plasterscine build the outside of the hull into a rectangle block so the hull doesnt move or flex...then layers of thin fiber and vacuum it without putting it in the oven..like here on youtube..i know this is carbon but maybe do the same with fiber ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VodfQcrXpxc

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
lol its so crazy here at this site...hardly anyone has any idea's...or help with fiber-glassing...68 views in 1 day and only one guy bothered to respond..I cant be the only one playing about creating stuff ?? Once i've cut the Hull where needed, what would you suggest doing to keep the parts straight ? maybe i should glass it on the whole exterior to hold it in place.. ? or balsa rib it then fill in with abs sheet's, or sheet balsa the exterior then abs the gap ? using little filler, sand smooth, then gel coat and she's ready for the fiber..? Im thinking of a scale version of the SIMAC REPORTER Cat, and it will be like real...with two stingers and two motors, the motors will be something like Leopard 2200kv..there about $75 each......this old Cat will fly when finished..

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Great video...looks easy enough.... hmm only place i can think of with a large oven is the bakers ...lol ..oh and the place where they make artificial arms & legs, braces and stuff... maybe place the plastic infront of a great big space heater..then lay it over the hull...wow not sure what idea to use..lol...emm the heat from the plastic ..thats gunner melt the original hull...muahaha Yea i didnt want to just forget this project i wanted to give it ago....i really want the big HPR cats...but hey...money money money... Atleast i have the hull, i just need to work with it and create something... Do you mean using sheets of balsa on the outside of the hull, then fill it in with sheets of abs ? attach the sheets with epoxy ?

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Thanx m8 for a reply....great idea ..cool I dont think i have the knowledge to get a good hull from a mold..and what length should i do it without touching the width maybe 135 length...wooohooo..how to do the fiber so it goes into every corner without lifting...and wat products to use... I wouldnt know where to start....ive done fiberglassing before and my Dad knows how to make boats...but he lives in Spain ...lol....i need to know what materials are needed and how to do it.. I dont have a problem creating something or making it longer that should be easy for me.... Using it as a female mold sounds great...good idea.... What do you mean about the balsa...where are you thinking of putting the balsa ? And the vaccum box.....how will it work..if i was to go that way..is it like putting the boat in a tight box and sucking the air out ...

STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
Hi guys Im on a new project and need some help..... I need to know how to go about stretching an abs type hull.... the boat in question is the old Graupner Systems Cat...size is 830mm long and about 270mm wide...build seen here : http://www.funrcboats.com/BuildSysCatE.htm This is Semi-scale....and i think its too short...the real boat was longer...so i was thinking of making it 1metre or more, i think the width can stay the same, to me this looks like a stumpy version of the Systems Cat that was made in 1987 i think...although the model does move nice on the water...it could do with being longer... Mine is still in the box but with no original hardware...and before i put it together, as its in two halfs, i want to try and stretch it... maybe by cutting the hull at 3/4 mark from transom to nose, ply sheeting layed inside complete length of the hull attached with glue/fiberglass & some kind of rivits or something, then glass the thin gap from outside... ?? I didnt want to make a complete mold, time and money...not worth it ...i think...there must be ways to do this stretch, i just want this old boat to be more real scale.. here is a site with pictures of the real boat...very hard to find : http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/classic-offshore/142487-systems.html I have an alu rudder 115mm kit with flex which i think will work with this boat but this i will deal with when its time..

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
yea..the only thing is you will never get the speeds needed for this boat with one motor setup...unless you went for a motor like i got for example 2250/9 HiAmp 160amp, HPR boats are using same and even 2280/7 and now in the 3000 series 196kmh but these cost loadsa cash..if i get another 2250/9 i know for sure this boat will rocket... Neumotors too cost loads.. I did some research over the years..latest fast motor used are Scorpions: 2x Scorpion 5035/760kv with 2x 12S1P Turnigy Nanotech 5000 45C = but these cost like the Lehner motors Then less price motors like : Tenshock motors 2250/7 at 136kmh http://www.tenshock-motors.de/ feigao 540 6XL will be fast as a single motor but needs very good cooling 2x leopard 4074 2000kv 6s at 133kmh and 2x Leopard 4082 2200kv going at 154kmh = $75 each motor (i would be buying something like this for this Cat build) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvWEUQzqeMY&feature=relmfu Seaking 180A These motors have been test in MHZ Mystic 114 & HPR 115, just type straight in youtube '' mystic 114 '' it will come up with loadsa vids and there setup specs...this will give you an idea.. Hope this helps.. I found a nice controller too. HV 220A Opto PRO II Navy Competition Brushless ESC (10-40 Opto) [E065] $259.00

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
hmmmm...me still confused.... lol This Lehner 2250 9winds 160amp motor cost me almost 300euros, how can a motor of less the 100euros ever be comparible, how can you compare the two ..ok compare is the wrong word but... 160amp thats a lot man..and almost any controller needed for that motor will cost between 250 to 390 or more.. For example Norbert...if you take 2 of these motors i have and put those in your Lithium Cat along with 48 cells or..em how many lipos i forget, then your cat will be very very fast..much faster than you got it already..i know this because my same motor is used for HPR boats and MHZ ....but then your talkng silly money for the lipos and controllers... so i'm still no clearer on how to save money on motors & setups but still have mega speed....how i now see it is if you want speed...your'll have to pay for it..reason i brought this to light is because there's so many motors on the market i got no idea where to start or what to get.. motors 4pole and so on ....some Leopard motors and fast too..there must be about 20 different Leopard motors to choose from....now i seen vids on youtube running Leopard motors then finding out there are other Leopard motors they could have used...why did they get this particular motor.....an not the other..depends on there own setups, yes..but thats not what i mean..its the series of motor..4092 or 4068 or 5698 and it goes on ...lol.. what is it you need to look for to know that your boat will go fast with this motor and this amount of batteries..?? knowing that we're not buying motors made for boats.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=OdoNi4PemnM&feature=fvwp

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
[:D] Thanx Norbert... Loadsa info...excellent job.. So both low or high Kv motors could give same performance depending on what setup you will use... i.e how many cells or Lipos and what speed controller you use...controller must support the amp of how many cells u will use ... so the lower the Kv more cells needed and the higher Kv less cells needed... A 3000-4000Kv only needs like 3s unless Amps needed to run motor was higher then it can take more cells ? So i could use for example the Scoprion 3226/1600kv for Helicopter motors....meaning less batteries to use...but then Amp is low...which does not mean a fast setup... like i said my Lehner 2250 needs 160amps... 24 cells ..all ready using a speed controller in the 300+ euros...and this is pure power...with that motor and good prop setup the boat will do over 100kph ...100% ....how can a lower ampage motor get those types of speed if it had less batteries to run it...?? you didnt mention anything about Amps ...so now me a little confused..i thought the higher the amp the more powerfull the motor ..? I know they are two different things Amp and Kv, i'm just waking up hehe when i write this so do excuse my simple mind....its not working right yet...more coffee...

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Guys...what should you look for when searching a motor for a powerboat... i.e Class 1 Cats or P1 Monos... If you see a video i posted using the Scorpion 5035/760kv the boat is very fast...yet if you check other versions like Scoprion 3226/1600kv for Helicopter the Kv is higher...is that better...?? you can put a water jacket or cooling system and then its for a boat.. So are you suppose to check what Kv it has and how many Amp's it needs..the lower the Kv the better.. ?? i thought it was the higher is better...? Like my Lehner 2250 9winds has 160amps...so it needs 160amps to power that motor..which takes 24cells or lipos. can some give an example of cheap motors that are just as powerfull..and what you need to look for when buying a motor please..i have no concept on motors..

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
I think they should be 150mm long....just like for a cat just over 1metre long... The Lithium Cat is 1.1metre and if you look at MHZ Cats there 114 Mystic Cat has 150mm long drives.. http://mhzusa.com/Scale-Drive-for-Mystic-Cat-C5000-M-114-cm-m-1674-A.htm But Norbert used cheap Japanese drives and will maybe change them some other time... I want to make the Cat as 135 but i dont think the 150mm drives will do for me...

Sorry for yet another post but maybe for good reason.... Here is the setup of an HPR 135 hull.. ngines: 2x Scorpion 5035/760kv MHZ controllers: 2x Hifei Swordfish 240A HV lipos: 2x 12S1P Turnigy Nanotech 5000 45C props: 2x Octura X457 and the video here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=Gxc75YivDF4 Watch it and listen to it... it seems to stay in the water all the time, it seems to have no bounce...where as Lithium Cat is very fast but bouncing...need to move more weight forward ...im sure.. and a little pic of the transome on HPR

forget that about the transome...i think its long enough... I just checked the MHZ and HPR hulls and i think you may have it spot on.. maybe those outdrives are too short...or its the angle.. Oh i found another speed controller to check out..people in Greece have been using them with the MHZ Mystic C5000 hulls.. here's the site.. http://mgm-compro.com/index.php?tid=brushless-speed-controllers-tmm-14063-3-x-series-32-bit-system Incase you havent seen em before that is.. RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Hahhaha Looks like you need to make a template.... Atleast i think its universal...you should be able to use the same template for most boats... If you watch how you boat fly's and handles.....do you think the transom rudder holder is long enough ? just watching that last video looks to me like it needs more weight in the nose.....and maybe..just maybe that transom should be a little bit longer, i think the longer it is the more stable it is, maybe have a look and make an extension plate to make it some centimetres longer..and try it..i dont know what you did in the last video but she is faster... can you post a pic of the back so you can see the length of the transome and rudder ?

Wow......She runs just beautifully ..she looks almost like the Mystic C5000.. Its an amazing creation...all that time...and hard work...job well done... When is the Fiber vision coming ...lol ?? Hi Norbert ...it was the transom that you made..which is not in the plans, you created your own transom for the rudder to make it look and handle more like the Mystic or King Of Shaves....and boy it works just great...i asked you a while back if you can make the plans to 135 and add that transom design to scale too..and you said no prob..send my home address and you'll do them.....i know your busy..so no mega rush... Im just happy you finally got it running really well...although i think it needs a tad more weight in the nose... Lol my time was divoted to a 3d model...but i sort of gave up..completely created by me..

Hi m8.. Thanx for your opinion man.. Well if you did see the pic..its a new model, never run... the good news is he dropped the price for me to 90quid with post included...thats got to be better....i think post would be 10-15 quid on a 1:8 size rc box plus weight..so i only really pay 75 quid for the roller... Most of the other cars i've seen are way to expensive at the moe...i got a UK forum now too...and they said if the old chassis has a good setup it will beat a new car with a bad setup....and its all down to the driver...dont know how this will stand up to the new Serpent 966... Also just lay the body on the chassis with the wheels on, check they line up then check your body post's... mark with a marker on the outside of the body where the post's are (do not remove protective film) drill holes and cut out wheels like fdjizm stated..and paint it Stickers are final stage Send a pic to show it off ...

Ok i'm asking this question because someone is selling a new Kyosho Evolva from year 2003, no motor, no tires, no electrics...and wanting 100 gbpounds, i was hoping it was the 2005 series but i'm thinking his is too old and too expensive...i mean if it was with motor and rtr then maybe 270 - 300 gbpounds would have been good price ? i think the M3 is 450 new..? I can get the M3 for 421+38pp here in UK....but my next question is which of these cars to go for...Serpent, Kyosho, Xray, Mugen, Edam, Motonica, Sheperd Velox...and many others..Mugen MRX4 & 5 all almost same price, my budget is a little tight thats why i was searching a second hand car first.. Is it worth me buying this Evolva 2003 at the price and getting the componets to complete it..? Or should i search one rtr secondhand...if so which should i go for...? My old car was Kyosho Spider ll GT with two gears..very nice car...then i sold it and got an FG 1:5 with a 23cc upgraded to 29cc, this i race as well as the old electric Tamiya TA04 R Tuned chassis car..but now wanting to go back to NITRO.. Bare in mind i want a car fast enough to keep up with the cars of today...meaning if i got the Evolva 2003 i can upgade it to 2007 or even M3..i think..but i want it to keep up with a Serpent or so on ..on track... Give a view on motor's too please.. Please guys leave a message on your view..i'm eager to get back on the track.. Thanx

RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build
Wow....well done Norbert,.....very very fast...its taken you a little while but look at that hull fly man...nice..now im jealous hehe I may have missed a page here..did you test the weight of the hull with all hardware in and also without....how much was it.. ? Looking at that last video...your gunner need to move the batteries further forward...or add weights...also a little tip you can get airbags that come on a roll about 2-3inch long bags for postage items these are perfect to fit near the front of the hull...incase of an over turn..it should pop up the right way up..but you may know all this already..[:D] Nice job m8 I sent you a letter to your address some months ago, but i never got that plan you said..maybe you were too busy..

RE: OS SX 50 H-ring...little help please..
Hi Bax and thanx for a response.. Ok i have already tried turning the motor over without the glowplug for a good 30 or more secounds but once putting the plug back its turns then blocks, i also took the tank completely out and cleaned it, cleaned all fuel lines and then made a fresh tank up, i didnt yet look into the exhaust....when i say it blocks i mean it still turns but is very hard like its got so much compression then it makes a little puck sound as the piston strokes down then it turns easy.... I will take the exhaust off on the weekend and clean it out.....if you think of anything else that it could be please send a message.... i will let you know how it goes, once i try to start her again...em now with a burntout starter...hmm...[8|] Thanx [:D]
