RE: FP or LA
The TT GP .42 is the way to go, Thunder Tiger has a thicker nickle plating on the liner than OS. The FP's never had a chromed liner, it was the Tower Hobbies .40 that did. You may have trouble getting parts for the FP .40. The TT 42 has a ready supply of present day parts available.

RE: Valve overlap on 4 strokes
A tuned pipe will not work on a four cycle engine as it would on a two stroke. You would have to alter the exhaust valve timing.

RE: Piggyback Shocks
I think that is due to the bore of the shock bodies and the X seals on the pistons. Not many companies have bested Traxxas in the shock department.

RE: Piggyback Shocks
I found the answer....GOOGLE is your friend. In R/C sized models, piggyback shocks are a complete waste of time and money. The oil will never see the kind of heat as in full size vehicles.

Piggyback Shocks
I was thinking of installing piggyback shocks on my Stampede. Can someone give me an idea how they work and the benefits of using these. Are big bore shocks a better way to go? I am looking for good handling with the wheels on the ground. I'm not looking for performance on big jumps.

RE: OS 10 FP issue
From experience, the TT .10 parts are interchangeable with the OS .10 FP and the TT .10 is still manufactured. I have interchanged parts between my TT .10 and FP .10 sucessfully. The .10 LA has the piston pin pressed into the to end of the rod. Also the wrist pin has rounded ends which are highly polished. There are no teflon pads. The LA has no parts interchangeability with FP or Thunder Tiger engines.

RE: Redcat Vortex SS
What you may find after break in, is the engine will comfortably "loosen up" then you may find that you will have to usually lean the HSN to get a good run. the HSN and the LSN do rely on each other for a perfectly set carb so adjust carefully and don't go too far on one and not the other.

RE: ST34-GH with ringed Piston and chromed brass Liner?
Holm, THis is a first generation ST G34 engine you have. It had a long wearing Chromed brass liner without a taper and a ringed aluminum piston. A very good unit but it was more expensive to produce than the newer one with a leaded steel liner "due to the chrome plating."

RE: OS .60 FP Bushed engine suddenly dies
If the fuel drains from the carb back to the tank when the engine stops, I would say the tank level is too low. The centerline of the should be just a slight amount below the needle valve. If an ABN or ABC engine quits when it gets up to temperature and is hard to restart, it is worn. Yours doesn't seem like it is worn out.

RE: OS FS 90 Clicking Noise
I believe the springs have a lot of tension too, but this comes in handy when the engine is in the higher rev range, to avoid valve float. I believe the rotary valve four cycle engines are best in the high rev ranges, rotary valve has no danger in this area.

RE: OS FS 90 Clicking Noise
That noise is the lifters in the cambox. The lifter face is broad and flat and there is a certain area on the cam profile that the the lifter will briskly snap down when the cam rotates. This noise is normal even on a new engine.

RE: Break-in Intervals
The time the engine is not running, does not effect the break in process. It's all about how much actual running time the engine has on it. Time to cool completely between runs is one of the more important things. Make sure the piston is at bottom dead center when letting the engine cool, it will prevent any possible "stretching" of the top of the cylinder liner.

RE: McCoy 35 Carb Venturi Insert
If this is the series with the two lightening bolts on the engine, they had inserts. These can be removed if the fuel tank was located well. I have run mine with the insert removed and they ran fine doing loops and junk. I have a .19 that will not run with the insert removed unless I use muffler pressure.

RE: ENYA .09 - Best Glow Plug? Can I machine the head down?
This is the Enya "quicky .09" it is of the old cross flow design with double ball bearing crank. It was manufactured as a buggy engine for use on the Kyosho Assault buggy in the 1990's. You can get an airplane head directly from Enya for $7.40. As for plugs, I've used everything from K&B, Fox, to OS. For North American plugs, make sure you use R/C Short ones. http://www.enya-engine.com/P_list/P_list094_E.html

RE: Not much pinch but works like new?
I have two Traxxas 2.5 engines that are the same way. I don't think pinch is too important. as long as there is good cranking compression the engine will run well. Incidentally AAC engines have no discernable pinch and they run very well. I have an Enya CX .11 with a chromed aluminum liner and it screams.

RE: Air Leaks...do you really need to seal your engine ?
Hey PROANTI1, Did you ever use the Dick McCoy piston and liner set for the Veco .19? The piston had a Dykes Ring, over sized wrist pin and over bore piston. It made the engine into a .21. Mine used to howl on the Team Associated R/C 500.

RE: Air Leaks...do you really need to seal your engine ?
I've been running car engines since the early 1970's and I have never had to "seal" an engine other than using the gasket and carb "O" ring. I've used engines like the Veco .19 with a clamp on heat sink and the 3.5 cc. These engines had metal shielded front bearings and I have never had bad runs from "air leaks". To this day I can't figure out why the guys out there have to seal their engines. What are you guys doing wrong? even my modern ABC engines don't requiring sealing.

RE: weedeater question
If the muffler is black, you can dissassemble it and remove the baffle. If it is the aluminumized one, it's crimped permanently. These have one of two types of carbs on them, the Walbro with adjustable HSN and LSN. and the non adjustable Zama one which is California emmissions compliant. Both are either 10mm or 11mm venturi. You may be able to put a bigger carb on it but throttling may suffer as well as reliability. I have worked on these many times and I know that the manual says to use 40:1 mix, but I strongly recommend 32:1. The Nikasil cylinder will thank you for it.
