Yes, The engine is an .069 and enlarging the ports, smoothing the flow areas. None of this gives a gain. But making a new head button to accept a turbo plug will give a very noticable gain.[:D] Here is an extensive thread on the topic. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6720213/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm

RE: PowerHouse RC Performance Race Engines
I've looked at your pics of soe mods and I wonder, are you concerned of failures as a result of stress risers in the cuts that are done. I am thinking it would be more insurance if the crank shafts were magnafluxed after grinding to check for this.

RE: Thunder Tiger FYI
I had a similar experience with a Fox .15 schneurle. It ran a couple of times well and had no compression when it was all and done. I sent it to Fox and Charlie Thacker had it totally rebuilt for me and sent it back to me for no charge. He indicated that it may have been over lapped. At least he was accountable for the company for it's mistakes. Their customer service is better than OS. You don't see OS telling you that they had made a mistake in their plating process when your liner peels and rebuilding your engine for free.[:D] I do admire TT engines for their care in manufacturing, they claim that the nickel plating on their sleeves is Two times thicker than other manufacturers. I am a loyal user of Fox and TT and Enya engines.

If it is an Italian ST, the carbs were not always easy to tune. The newer ones made in China have been improved with much more easier tunability and reliability.

RE: Help with collett and flywheel
Try to get a collet and flywheel set. Although the inside diameter is quite universal for most .21 and larger engines, the taper may vary by a few degrees. Same info.applys to .10, .15, .18 engines

Don't get WD40 on O rings and plastic parts. It is highly possible it will damage these parts.

Just for info, a neat trick I have done is to oil the open rocker engines with Hopps gun oil (the one with PTFE) in it. It minimizes wear on the aluminum rocker arms.

RE: is there a diference
The bearings in stock plane engines are no better than stock car engines. Example, the lower end car engines that OS makes, uses are the same quality and design bearings as the plane engines. They have the steel cages with the folded tabs. You can get aftermarket bearings like ceramic bearings, stainless with phenolic retainers etc.

RE: is there a diference
We did this a lot in the 1960's and 70's, when the car specialty engines were not available and we just bolted a heat sink on the head. I still have my Veco 19 series 71 car engine and it still works.

RE: What Can Be used insted of afterun oil?
For those of you that run your engines dry at idle, you should run them dry with the throttle open. It will not hurt the engine to purge it for the couple seconds at WOT. I have seen engines run dry at idle and when the backplate was removed, the crank case was full of oil with little alcohol droplets in it and the methanol is hydroscopic, well you know the rest of the story. I've seen this in OS engines, Enya engines and Traxxas engines.

Automatic transmission fluid. Dextron2, Mercon3, or any of the others. They have excellent anti-corrosion properties.

RE: os engines
On the topic of Cool Power, I've used it in many iron piston, ABC, ABN and ringed engines and have never worn out one engine prematurely. I believe the secret is not to run your engine over lean. If you use a big engine in your model, you will not have to run it too lean to get good performance.

RE: New-Old TD .049
If you are concerned about too much thrust on the trainer, put the prop on backwards. It will work well but it won't bee too agressive.

RE: COX .049 plane engine Fuel
The Cox engines with wrist pins were the .15 Tee Dee MK 2 and Medallion series. The piston was Meehanite (cast tempered iron) vice the traditional bar stock steel with case hardened skirt. The rod was 2024 T3. The medallions used the remaining stock when the TD .15 was discontinued.

ASP engines are an excellent value but the bearings in them are poor quality. The retainers have the folded tabs and can fail.

RE: vx .18 boost port ?
If the piston has a hole in it lined up with the boost port, you can enlarge the hole in the piston from round to square. It will allow more of the incoming charge to flow through.

RE: OS .45FS problems
I had the same problem with my 1975 OS 45 FSR ABC and when I checked the engine, the piston was worn out. When the piston of an ABC or ABN engine wears out, it will not transfer it's heat to the liner and the engine will quit.

RE: cant get a good tune now
Remember, if you do port work on a two stroke glow engine and the work is good, The engine will have better flow patterns and may need to be leaned out. It does account for improved flow of the fuel/air mix. I have improved the transfer port flow patterns of my TRX 2.5 liner and when I was done the engine ran richer , so I had to lean it 1/2 a turn.
