Thanks for the list. Do you have a better qualtiy blank profile of the ModKat. The one you posted bedfore becomes distored when I try to open it up in any type of photo editing software.

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
Mods, I'm trying to put a list together of parts needed for this plane to buy them now and so far I've got the BSE FIRE .90L, Robart 520 Tri Gear 90 Deg Rail Mount Nose, (8) 36" servo extensions, and Hitec HS-125MG 2BB Wing Servo U. Also, how many of the flat hitec servos will be needed and will other hardware be included such as control horns, push rods, etc...? A little off topic but I've been looking it anyone makes (not sure what they are called) rudder/elevator supports. Rods that link the elevator and rudder together. I've searched the internet but with no avail. I have a Sig Fazer and have jimmy rigged my own but it really needs more support with what I do with the plane. It’s been clocked at 70mph level flight ground speed and as it goes by you will see the rudder vibrating violently.

RE: Sig Ultimate Fun Fly
I've had a one for 4 years and when that one crashed I built a new one and now have had that one for another four years and counting. Yes its true its NOT a 3D flyer it will hover with a 46FX and the 46 I have on mine is almost 9 years old and it hovers at a little more than 3/4 throttle. It is rather difficult to hover this plane though. Its also been clocked at 70mph ground speed with a small head wind.

Opps I'm sorry, I was cleaning out my bookmarks and found that, I misstakenly remembered it is a kit without looking at it.

Thanks, that helps a lot and it looks like I've got some research to do hehe. Does the fiberglass add any strength or more weight than monokote?

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
On the MRM-RCModels website you state for the retracts, "SpringAir Oleo bored 701's for the mains and a firewall mounted 701 for the nose". Will Robart 521W1 Tri Gear 90 Deg Fire Mount Nose w/Wire work? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJZE4&P=7 Also, when you paint the plane do you paint directly on the balsa sheeting or do you put something over the balsa then paint. I've always used monokote so I wouldn't know if theres a special paint to use or even the right way to go about painting the plane.

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
$200-275 is kinda steep for a kit but if you think about what your getting in this one.... I'd say its a deal! As for the engine, do you think you could work out a deal with Jett by placeing a bulk order for the BSE FIRE .90L R/C. I'm sure there would be at least a few people in this forum alone that would be interested in that. If so, put me on that list too. Keep up the good work!!!

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
Nice work so far Mods, keep up the good work. Eventually, I plan to put a FPV video system on this plane and seeing how space is limited would you have any advice for adding wingtip or under the wing compartments like some modern jets carry extra fuel to carry batteries or other equipment? Have you thought of a paint scheme for yours yet? Personally I'm using monokote and still looking for a scheme.

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
ORIGINAL: Mods-R-Me The main reason I choose fiberglass is because I wanted to try something different. They are not structurally needed. I'm really trying to keep the price hovering very closely to $200. It costs $20 (this includes shipping) for a set of fiberglass wing tubes for the Modkat. I can get the phenolic tubes (which are plenty strong) for $2. That's 18$ bucks I can knock off the kit! Mods
Well if fiberglass is not structurally needed then whatever is cool with me. Again, awsome work you have done and can't wait to see the final project fly.

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
All, Are having fiberglass wing tubes all that important to you when considering the kit? The reason I'm asking is I found a supplier that can sell me Phelonic Tubes at cost. The phelonioc tubes are 90% less expensive than the fiberglass tubes and would further reduce the kit price. Thanks, Mods
To me fiberglass is not that important to me just because its fiberglass but rather that I know the plane will be very strong and be able to withstand much more. Whatever you use I will get the kit but I would much rather prefer fiberglass. This must cost a lot for you to be concerned, how much of a jump in kit price are we talking because if it still stays below 200 after shipping I'm game (heck even if it was more than 200 I'd probably still get it)? Also, would there be a significant drop in performance or abilities if phelonioc were to be used? One last thing I'd like to clarify is retracts. Will the kit will have the parts included to add retracts? edit: by parts I don't mean the retracts themselves but rather the reinforced parts for the wing.
Phase 1- Model the aircraft in Realflight and do the initial flight tests in a safe virtual environment.
You think you might release the Realflight model for other to try? I know it won't be like the real one but it would still be nice to play around with.

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
You might have addressed this before but did you consider having the ability to retract the landing gear in towards the fuselage instead of forward. Since your already having to reiforce the spars could you of done that instead?

RE: Kingcat-Like Design and Build
Very impressive, I've been looking for a bobcat 50 but there all sold out and not quite what I'm looking for. Your plane is exactly what I'm looking for. I'd like to be put on your backorder list but money is tight, currently at UTA (Arlington, TX) for aerospace engineering. I see you stated the price in the ballpark of $100-$200, if it does end up in the price range with retracts and fiberglass wing tubes plz put me on the list!!! Also, could you make the kit for a Jett 90L with muffler in the fuse like yours? I'm in no hurry so Jan 07 lets me start my charity for my ModKat. All I can say is awsome for them letting you use the name ModKat and building a plane almost identical to the bobcat.
