RE: NEW Build on a budget! Thread. Need assistance!
Model planes, electric or glow require a minimum investment. I fly and build both, small glow and small electrics and I never felt that I saved money going one way or another, mainly because you always need to get some piece of equipment. I suggest you compare both altenatives, and reduce to the minumum components you need to fly and buy them now. The rest of the equipment you can buy in the future (i mean next month) when you get tired of borrowing some people accesories :) Good Luck Claudio

RE: New Cox throttle reviewed by Fly RC magazine
Congratulations Andrew !!
His name is Joseph, and I guarantee within a few years he will know how to tune up a Cox engine better than any of you!![;)]
I have no doubts about that !! BTW I bought one of the new throttled Cox engines, as soon as I receive it, you´ll read my review here [:D] Claudio

RE: ACE Built Up Wing, Dihedral or not ?
Well Finally I took the decision and cut the upper section of the wing, sanded the leading and trailing edges and the spars, inserted a 1/8 center rib and glued together again, which resulted in a total dihedral of 25 mm (1 inch). I don´t know if you can see it on the picture but I misscalculated the first cut about 3 mm (measure two times and cut only one !! ) so I had to make it again, fortunately there wasn´t any warps or missalignment :). Thanks to all for the advices. I´ll keep posting pics of the progress. Claudio

RE: ACE Built Up Wing, Dihedral or not ?
This is a picture of the wing Well, Dihedral is not necesary since it has ailerons, but a little dihedral (3/4 inch ~ 20 mm) total at wing tip, will give the plane a better appearence. I´ll post more pics later. Regards Claudio

ACE Built Up Wing, Dihedral or not ?
I´m in the process of building an ACE R/C Cap 21, but I found the original foam wing a little heavy, so I built a constant chord wing based on the plans created by Andrew Donatelli. I built it one piece and now I don´t want to cut them in half to avoid warp and misaligning (*). What do you think ? will it fly with no dihedral at all ? help please. Thanks Claudio (*) EDIT: Sorry for the word, I think it must be "misalignment", ;-)

RE: Another Skydrill takes to the skies!
Congratulations Dave !! Nice looking plane. I couldn´t be happier with mine. Very fast with a TD .049 but light enough to glide without any bad habit. I made my canopy with a balsa plug and PET from a 2 liter soft drink bottle. Enjoy your plane ! Claudio

RE: TD .049 stuck at TDC
hllywdb / George: Thanks for the advice. I take the fuel to the field in a 0.5 liter bottle, but didn´t know about disconnecting the fuel lines. And now I remember that the last time I flew, it was on sunset and as soon as I landed (hard landing [:)] ) cleaned the plane and took it back home without checking if the engine had some fuel inside or remaining in the tank. Regards Claudio

RE: TD .049 stuck at TDC
Well, finally I used heat and penetrating oil to remove the cylinder, and it turned to be rust instead of varnish. I think there is too much nitro in the fuel. Spraying some oil inside the engine after the next flying session would help to avoid this happening again ? REgards Claudio

TD .049 stuck at TDC
I have a TD .049 stuck at TDC, the inside of the cylinder is covered by some brown deposit. Is it Varnished ? Steel wool is a good solution ? EDIT: I´ve been using Powermaster fuel 40 % nitro with added castor to make it about 22 %. Thanks. Claudio

RE: Skydrill Build Thread
Well maidened my Skydrill in 07/09/2010, here is a short video showing a couple friends launching and test flying. I took the controls later but I have to land due to an unexpected snap roll caused by a glitch on my Eclipse 7 radio (mmm bad feeling abt it [:o] ). Fortunately she landed in one piece. AUW is slightly under 14 oz. and in the air she tracks like an arrow and rolls in the tip of a pen. No bad habits at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FCyuRwHQ4Y

RE: Skydrill Build Thread
This my Skydrill, finally I think she will be ready for maiden next weekend. Throttled TD .049, 5.7 x 3 prop (in the picture 6x4 ), I don´t know the final weight yet but I think it will be close to 400 gr (14 oz. apx). I´ll be posting the finishing details during the week. Regards Claudio

RE: THROTTLE FOR .049 ? also have NIB cox engines
Rafa: Take a look at this, this is a homemade copper version of the throttle sleeve, as long as I know exhaust restriction is the best way to control the throttle in a Cox engine, It works best on non SPI cylinders but I´ve been lucky also with SPI cylinders. RE: Cox Part Identification Help
# 2 item is placed inside (bottom end) the venting tubes of the fuel tanks in the old Cox control line planes (eg: Cessna Skymaster) , I think it keeps the fuel of being "blown away" by the Venturi effect caused by the prop stream. Claudio

Well guys, I join the thread. This is my progress ´till now. I plan to finish it soon. TD .049, three TG9 servos, one 3,7 gr servo if using throttle sleeve, 350 mah NiMH pack. Edit: I borrowed the canopy fron a foam plane just for "look" purposes. Regards Claudio
