OS FX-H 46 case work on aircraft version?
I bought a new OS FX-H 46 case for my OS FX 46 airplane engine that was damaged in a crash. Will the FX-H case work?

Great Planes 5 & 30 minute epoxy crystalizes?
Within the last year, I have had 3 boxes of Great Planes 5 & 30 minute epoxy crystalize for a total of 6 boxes. The epoxy is stored on my work bench in my house and never exposed to extreme heat or cold. Anyone know why this is happening?

RE: Will an ASP 61 Cylinder/Piston fit OS FX 61?
I have been flying RC for 15 yrs and have built over 100 planes and used alot of OS engines. I have finally realized that what you pay for is not allways what you get. Meaning... buy an ASP or Magnum for less than one-half cost of the OS and get what you pay for. Break any new engine in correctly, don't abuse it, and it will perform and last as long (or longer with no peeling) as an OS. I have bought my last OS engine - period!

This puts the question to bed... I contacted Just Engines, following is their response: ========================================================================= Hi Charlie, No I'm afraid not. We have tried but there are subtle differences which make it impossible. Sorry, Andrew, Just Engines

RE: OS FX 46 piston/cylinder - who sells at a decent price?
I used to work in China as a buyer for a major corporation in the 90's and Japanese buyers were in China also taking advantage of the cheap labor. I wonder how many OS parts are made in China with final assembly in Japan, thus the stamping "made in Japan". Thinking back about the nitro engines I have owned over the years and comparing their performance, cost makes them all about even. So what does it matter... buy'um cheap, run'um hard, and junk'um when they blow! Just my two cents worth...

RE: OS FX 46 piston/cylinder - who sells at a decent price?
W8ye, I have read many of your technical responses and no doubt you know what you are talking about and I for one have taken your advice regarding issues and I did on this one also. I ordered the parts from Just Engines and as you said, they were very nice to deal with and quickly answered my questions. Now I have one for you... WHY in world would OS Engines continue to use nickel plating knowing it is a problem? I have 15 yrs of RC experience and have rebuilt many nitro engines for friends over the yrs. Alot of people think OS Engines is the only way to go, however, I strongly disagree. ASP, Magnum, Thunder Tiger, Super Tiger, and etc all make good engines and to my knowledge most do not "peel cylinders" like the OS Engines. OS went from FX series to AX series and one would think the peeling would not happen? Just my two cents worth, what is your take on this?

www.justengines.co.uk/ has a piston/cylinder listed for the OS FX 46. Would I be correct in assuming it would be an ASP 46 part, and, the cylinder is chrome plated? Any comment on buying from those guys?

RE: OS FX 46 piston/cylinder - who sells at a decent price?
I have a couple OS FX 46 engines with top of cylinder peeled very bad causing loss of compression. I have read a couple of forums regarding ASP & Magnum parts fit the OS and are chrome plated. I visited my local hobby shop yesterday and was told cost of parts did not warrant replacement and to junk the engines. Hobby King list ASP parts but are on back-order and probably never have the parts in stock again. The OS parts are available on eBay for $81 but that is more than a clean used engine will bring on eBay. Hobby People and Just Engines have parts for approx $45 w/shipping. Would I be throwing good money after bad to try the Magnum and ASP parts in my OS? A friend bought a set on eBay and said the parts do not fit. Would appreciate comment from anyone that has used the Magnum or ASP parts in the OS FX 46.

RE: OLD vs NEW OS 46 FX
Mr. Baxter, I have an OS FX 46 that I purchased new in the 90's and just recently installed it in a plane. One of my club members informed me these engines had a major problem with the cylinder plating and that I should remove the head and inspect it. I had flown it about 10 flights, so we removed the head at the field(simple to do) and yes the cylinder has alot of peeling around the top. I have been flying RC for many years and I have collected several nitro engines over the years that I have never used. This is one of those engines and I would hope that although I bought it in the 90's OS would still warrant this problem as it is metal and not subjected to wear out sitting in a box. Please advise what my options are to get this engine repaired and thanks in advance for your help.

RE: OS 46FX problem - see pics
I have two OS FX 46 engines with extremely peeled nickel. There is no excuse for this other than 1)bad OS design, or 2) abuse by the pilot which was not my case. I see many OS FX 46 new and used engines on eBay, which is probably why. In regard to the above post about using the ASP 46 piston & liner, how is performance? I may go that route if results are good.

RE: Dymond D 5000 MG BB M servo
Bruce, my original post was Oct 24, 2011 and YES I have bought more Dymond servos since then. I use the Dymond 5000 in gas planes with a DLE-20 or DLE-30 engine and of course there is vibration with the engines. I have had NO problem with the servos and reccommend then. I also use the micro Dymond D150 and am very pleased with it also. You can't go wrong with the Dymond servo and the good thing is they are located in the U.S. and you don't have to wait a month to get your order. Hope this helps...

RE: ASP 25 nitro engine
earlwb, thanks for the enlighting info on ASP engines. I have flown RC planes since 1980 and it is rare to see an ASP engine and when asked what kind of engine that is and I say ASP, they usually say what is that? I do my own repair work on all my engines glow or gas and I honestly have never had a problem with an ASP and I run them hard. I have an ASP 61 (older model) in a Great Planes P-51 and it screams as good or better with the OS engines. I was at a swap meet last fall and bought a new never run ASP 21 for $20 and a ASP 61 new never run for $30. I run the smallest prop possible and they are usually full throttle from the time I take of until I land. Thanks again for your info... Charlie

ASP 25 nitro engine
Who has the best price/selection of ASP engines? I am looking for an ASP 21 2-cycle and ASP 91 4-stroke. Would consider a good used one also if price is right. Also, I have run ASP engines for years and for whatever reason they don't seem to be very popular, why? Price is right and I have had no problems with the engines and I run them hard. Comments...

RE: DLE-20 fried a piston...
Once again... I did not run the engine without oil. When I got home from the flying field, I poured the gas out of the container into a clear glass jug. I then re-mixed another gallon and compared the color and it was exactly the same. I flew another plane with a DLE 20 the next day using the same gas/oil mixture that I was running when the engine seized and had no problems. I think it is a direct result of cylinder plating and I find it ironic that only a month ago parts were available.

RE: DLE-20 fried a piston...
Thanks for all the responses... With regard to the missing oil, NO I did not forget the oil and I checked that as soon as I got home. I use Pennzoil 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil 32-1 ratio. I have five DLE engines and I use the same gas/oil mixture for all. I should point out that I am a mechanical engineer and I have rebuilt car engines and numerous small 2 and 4 stroke engines over the years. It is very possible that the metalic plating was improperly applied thus the premature failure. With regard to buying the parts from other than Tower, I contacted several hobby dealers that carry the DLE 20 and no one had the parts. I would name the dealers but that would not be appropriate as they all stated the parts I needed was on order from China. Normally, eBay has these parts also but not this time which leads me to believe there has been a high demand? No need for additional comments other than if anyone has experienced the same problem with the DLE 20?

DLE-20 fried a piston...
DLE-20 seized up. Had good air flow in Cap 232, carb tuned properly, gas/oil mixture 32-1. Ran good several flights, then seized up mid air with no warning. Couldn't make it back to the runway damaged the airplane plus fried the cylinder/piston/ring. Anyone had this problem? I find it interesting that the sources for these parts are out of stock? The aluminum cylinder does not have a sleeve so DLE plates the cylinder wall a metalic substance approx .001 inch thick (so I was told). I have been running weed eaters, blowers, and etc for years with 2-sroke engines and never had one seize. Comments...

Dymond D 5000 MG BB M servo
Would appreciate comments from anyone using the Dymond D 5000 metal gear dual ball bearing 125oz torque analog servos. I purchased several of them for DLE 20 & 30 engine airplances and so far they have worked great. However, flight time has not exceeded one hour as I have several airplanes with these servos. Price is good, $15 and if you buy 10 you get one free with only $5 ship charges. I know there are higher quality servos available with similar or better specs but cost is a big factor for me...

Airplane for ASP 21 Glow Engine?
I am looking for an ARF for an ASP 21 glow engine. Anyone recommend an ARF that my ASP 21 glow engine would more than enough for. In otherwords, I want it to scat with the little ASP. I fly gas only but picked up the ASP 21 new at a swap meet for a few dollars and need a plane for it. Appreciate any recommendations... Thanks, Charlie
