Jay, the physics of actual flight VS static high power, they're different and I don't know why. When the Corsair flew with the 9x6, it would get warm in the basement (static high power) but taking it outside, never got more than 90deg or so. As I also stated, these batteries been through the wringer, and I know they need to be replaced so it's far from over in my book.

I did a test with the 10-6 prop, the battery puffed (2200 20c) testing 9-6 and results are 2nd puff. These batteries have been crashed and are about 8 months old, seen a LOT of use, they may just be bad. This is testing indoor with the plane anchored running 1/2 throt on the first, and full on the second. Results may be different outside. The motor and ESC never got warm....test over till I go outside with it and check. I lowered the timer from 10min to 7 min.

Jay....happens here too (LMAO). ALSO...electric conversion waiting for maiden. The plane lost a lot of weight, balance is good, this motor swings the 10-6 just as fast as the .40, if not a little faster....just gotta watch for heat issues.
what hinges are on it? I use Dubro small metal pin hinges and epoxy them in. Yeah, I'm running a 40a ESC with a 9x6, no heat. I could use either the 2200 or the 1500's, but the 1500's were easier on it. I don't think I'd go higher than a 10-6 on the prop for heat reasons, but definately be using a 40a ESC with a 10-6. I ran a 25a ESC for a while, it was OK. Have fun![:D]
ORIGINAL: sheerider1026 ok... there are a few guys claming it is ok to run the 2200's.. as far as reinforcment, the guys aren't doing anything at all to the parkzone... there is an aluminum motor mount they are using with the turnigy.. what about an 1800mah battery?? think it will pack it?? i really hate the flight times i am getting.. and i know when i install the new motor flight times will decrease a lot.. this is a belly flopper and it already has the plastic skids on the bottom.. the wings seem fairly thick and strong too.. the stock prop is a 9x6 i beleive.. it is plastic and fairly flexible.. what prop do you suggest with the turnigy?? what prop will do what as far as power and current draw.. any info you give i will greatly appreciate.. i am new when it comes to planes, there weight, powerplants, and props.. i want more power and more flight times.. is that too much to ask?? i really love flying this thing.. its the first time ever flying a plane and i had a lot of fun.. no wirries.. i feel confident
OK...we know the GWS quality is FAR below that of Parkzone in refrence to re-enforcements. Propeller...I'm using a 9x6, no heat issues at all, you could even go to a 10-6, or 11-6 from what I've read. If you do go 2200mAh, it's gonna come in real hot. I flew mine a long time before the wing cracked. Just make sure the landing surface is decient and no rocks/sticks/etc. I'm not saying not to use a 2200, it just if the plane hits wrong, it does damage. Like I said, I've been using the 1500mAh 20c's at about 1/2 the weight of the 2200's, it calms the landings down a bit, performance is still very good. Flight times...if you run full the whole time, you're only gonna pull 5-7 minuets no matter what battery you use 1500-2200. I run my timer and land after 10 minuets, period, and the battery isn't even barely warm.
ORIGINAL: sheerider1026 i just looked it up vic.. wingspan is 39 inches, length is 33.5 inches, flying weight is 25 oz.. it currently has a 480 sized 960kv motor with an 18 amp esc.. here is the esc i bought http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6459&Product_Name=Hobbyking_SS_Series_40-50A_ESC and here is the motor i got also http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3886&Product_Name=TR_35-36C_1100kv_Brushless_Outrunner_(Eq:_AXi_2814 so what do you think about that combo?
OK.....I bought the same motor rated as a .32 to .35 glow, I was running that and a 40a ESC on a GWS Corsair (36/38" wing span) that has a wooden firewall epoxied to the nose. If you're wanting to run a 2200mAh 20C or so, it flys great, I've done it BUT, I did internal re-enforcements (.030 plastic and 1/16" balsa)and I re-enforced the wings with good making tape and the leading edges with duct tape. I got many flights but the 2200mAh IS too heavy. I finally ended up CRACKING the main wing pretty good (repairable). I didn't use landing gear except on the tail. Under the main wing, I designed and installed a SKID so it was a belly flopper. It flys high and FAST, nearly unlimited vertical. Really, a 2200 is just to heavy. I have a couple of 1500mAh 20c's that are about 1/2 the weight, and performance is about the same as with the 2200's, not as abusive on landings though. Look at the pics, you'll see what it needs to make it work with a powerful motor like you want:

OK...maiden is out of the way. This thing flys like NOTHING I've ever flown before. It lept into the air after a 4-5ft roll at 1/2 throttle (thanks to Jay for pointing that out). I got way too touchy ailerons, and too light on the elevator...gotta make those adjusts. It snap rolls at the lightest of touch....it does settle out into straight level flight nicely. This one is gonna take some getting used to and it seems OVERPOWERED with the OS .40FP and a 10-6 propeller. It has NO problem with taxi on grass. My knuckles are still white.[X(] What a FUN plane, and it could easily be converted to electric if I wanted.

Jay, I noticed also the differences. Must be the designers wanted to make it more sturdy in the tail and give more control surface on the wings. YES...I have pre-maiden jitters. It's a TAD nose heavy, but I'll deal with that after the maiden. I'm not looking to wring it out....just fly it and make all the fine tuning that needs done. Jim....maybe today......[8|]
ORIGINAL: joeyhatch11 Hey guys it's been a few weeks since I logged in to this thread but I see everyones still out there having fun where the weather permits. I got my HDX450 back in the air and she is very smooth this time around. But I have a 2 questions. When I give her full throttle she whips out to the right hard. What do I adjust to make that go away? Is it the ''delay'' on the gyro? Also when I switch to Idle up 1, I hear the rpm's shoot up but then heli get a tad wobbly. What's that about? My gyro % on the Tx is set to 17% in N,1 and 2. Maybe it's too much gain for 1/2 and that's why it has that slight wobble? Thanks guys, Joe
Even though the G401B allows drift, they hold solid and won't let the tail move at all. I say 17% is low, I run between 22 and 31% on gain. If the RPMS shoot up and it's a tad wobbly, I'd say in idleup1, you need to increase pitch a little, decrease thot settings a little. If you're running 100% on throt across the settings on idle one, drop them all to 85 or 80%.....you gotta mess with it to find the sweet spot.

OK...in MY defense, those guys flying the .60 gassers, they lube the gears on the torque tubes, and they CLEAN their helicopters on a regular basis....they PM them. Also, on gassers, remember, oil about covers those helis especially doing aerobatic flight. ALL bearings are lubricated and sealed or NOT, yer gonna get grit in there. I've seen those guys break the tail down and clean it if too much crap gets in there at the flying field. So....I say...a bit of white lith grease, and do proper maintenance....no problem. If I were Dave and that was my machine, I'd grease it too, it just makes sense. If yer gonna fly something that big, you better be ready to maintain it properly. In the Navy, aircraft are lubricated and greased every 14 days UNLESS it's been stored inside and hasen't flown.

CF is nice, it's light, it's over priced as heck, BUT I have reservations as to the shear strength of it not to mention it's as conductive as a piece of copper....I'm NOT sold on it, nor have I ever been to date.
