RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
sorry for your loss. my st bernard lives at my feet and i don't feel right without him there. my heart goes out to you and your wife.
ORIGINAL: TexasSkyPilot Not a good day. I may be absent for a few days; I don't know how long, and I'll have to play it by ear. Fourteen years ago, someone brought my wife a tiny puppy, who grew into a big, beautiful black Labrador retriever. Later today, we have to take our beloved boy to the vet hospital for the last time.[:(] My wife is going to be devastated, and this will probably be a very bad weekend for her, as she loved spending time with him on her days off. Not to say that I'll be in any better shape. He spends every day right at my feet, sleeping while I write by books, and I affectionately run my foot along him many times a day. It's going to be very strange indeed. If I can drop in and post, I will. Have a good weekend, guys. ~ Jim ~[&o]
RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
hi there. i just bought one the two original proto type 106 inch rc guy decathlons. it's got an dle50 in it. i've got to pull the motor and add a couple of degrees of down thrust thats being compensated for with down elev. i don't like that trim setup. the proto had no down thrust built into the wall and the previous owner only had a dozen flights on it. he hadn't got around to adding some washers to off set the angle yet. it also came with a set of balsa usa 30% floats that i have to build yet. the 50 size is monster power on this model. i haven't flown it yet but the guy i bought it from is a good friend and i've seen it in action. that's why the minute he was willing to part with it i jumped on it. i'm reading through the thread and there's lots of good info here. i'm going to flt it on thursday when it get delivered and i can't wait.

we all fly turbines. i still use nimh in my turbine other then ecu, and an minimum of gadgets. less to fail. to many of my freinds lose their models from twitchy gadgets and electronics. though turbines are alright they get boring. nothing gets me going better then a model that can fly an endless array of aerobatics. i may try the new profile from hobby king. their sbach profile looks okay. will do. i did have one of my turbine flying mates cook his sprint last week when he was charging his lifies. i flew the new engine today and what a difference it made climbing inverted flat spins knife edge spins harriers and hovers no problem. i'm very pleased.
ORIGINAL: Ernie Misner Take a look at that life battery I mentioned for future planes. The servos are snappier on 6V also. yes the 46-60 size. the os 91 weighs 6 oz less then the 75. i'm using a hydra max 2100 4.8 nimh. i didn't get to fly today as it rained all day. i stripped a pound and a half of weight removing the 75 and all the weight needed to balance. the 75 for all it's weight and beefieness realy doesn't produce that much power. it appears that this time i was excramenting instead of experimenting buy putting that giant load of s#!T on the front of this model. i think i'll take up plumbing. mark.
ORIGINAL: Ernie Misner You're talking the smaller size ProX260, right? I think you are setting udderly records for cow size engines......:) Man that 75 must be the mother of all cow engines (!) if the 91FS is considerably lighter. That hot 50 sounds like lots of fun on there if ya ask me. What are using for a battery? I went with the Tower 1100mah LIFE battery that weighs less than my older 5 cell AAA pack which was pretty light. You get to have all the fun experimenting though, Ernie Misner
RE: Aeroworks profile
i did just that. i found a new os 91fs in my hobby pile and shaved 6oz off the front end and all the weights off the tail to balance the cow. thanks for prodding my cow ernie. i flew today and the 75 got very boring. the power comes on late so it's pulling way to much in the hover and if you back off the throttle it falls out from the weight. the 91 will be tested tomorrow. if that don't work it's getting an os 50 hyper converted heli engine. this will addddddddd cost though. thanks for the feed back. a cow that that has lived several life times tastes like s#!t. seems that it aslo flies like s#!T too. mark
ORIGINAL: Ernie Misner Maybe a cow but it will probably last several lifetimes. Why not just put something light on there and move the engine forward. That's what I did with my YS 70 that weighs less than an OS 46ax. Ernie Misner
it's much better without the sfg's. i flew today on max throws for the first time and it does well. i realy need some checkers on the bottom as i have the yellow one and it's hard to see the difference from top to bottom when hurling it around. other then that it's a fun model even with the heavy 75 2s on it. i also propped it today with a14x6 apc and it's got gobs of pull. it's very sporty and a good free style flyer. it does basic 3d alright, but a flat out 3d model can't fly sport anywhere near as well as this thing can you can realy haul it around and it's well mannered for normal landings.
ORIGINAL: Dr Honda You can't put it in front of the hatch. If you do... you will have a tail drager. If you want a tricycle set up... the mains have to be behind the CG. I know the picture without the wings and tail looks like the mains are way at the back... but remember... half the plane isn't in the picture.
thanks. i realized that after i posted. i will put mine the same as yours. i've got gear from my old byron eagle that are an perfect fit. they're a bit longer but using a prop it gives me more clearance from ground strkes with the prop. the nose gets a fultz nose gear. they hold up well on our field. two other members of our club bought one and we're all dropping in 160's. i smell all out war coming.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
ORIGINAL: Dr Honda I don't have any pictures of the belly... but here's a pic that allows you to see where the gear is mounted. The gear is very wide, and not very tall. It's much shorter than the stock legs. (by about 2") The front of the gear is just behind the hatch on the belly. This puts the tires about an inch behind the CG, and makes the rotation for take-off smooth. Inside, I made a block that fit the interior dimensions of the fuse, and epoxied it in place. So, it is reinforcing the entire rear of the fuse. It's not the lightest landing gear... but it's very strong... and since this is my "Trainer" jet, I figure the aluminum gear would take the stress of a bad landing off the wing. Last thing... since it's on it's own legs... it makes it much easier to put together at the field.
thank you very much. i wasn't sure if you put your gear infront or behind the hatch. i'm throwing in an 1.60 os 2s in mine to start with. my turbine is in a sprint right now and flying well so i'm leaving it in for now. do you think it would be better to put the gear in front of the hatch with a pusher prop to get the nose lighter sooner or will were you have yours be fine? i fly off of grass mostly and it eats almost every retract gear. this will be a grass field model so i realy don't want to gut and rework the wings. glad you went with your gear mod and for saving me the thinking end of this mod. thanks again for the new pics. mark.
ORIGINAL: Remco45 Tail light or sensor While checking the tail light ( or is it a sensor?) against the fuselage, it appears too long. Checked the photo's of the real aircraft and indeed...it should be 72 mm long. Also, behind the flanges there should first be a red part protruding, then the grey ring and finally the white lamp cover. So, marked the different parts, taking into account the loss of the saw cuts. Sawed the rear end of, shortened the moulded part and glued the rear part on again. From the leftover, I've made half a ring which was glued on to complete the "red ring". Correct positioning means that that the rivets need to be replaced as well. We get it that you can take-off a rookie in 5ft and defy gravity but the rest of the world really does not care. From various post you have made in the past all you seem to make special request for things that the guys at Modellbau seem to fulfill and you don't buy anything. Why don't you take Henry up on one of his offers or stop wasting there time so they can produce stuff for us. My 2 cents
Lighten up David, I will be buying one of these Tornado's as soon as they are available in the UK, and by the way I can't defy gravity for long and find it difficult to walk on water now days as well, but will keep on trying.
