RE: Hobby King GT-2 Transmitter/Reciever
Go to the video from the HK page and read the comments. I saw two comments about the poor range (20ft.) others had no complaints. I suppose it's a hit and miss thing with cheap knock off radios. You usually get what you pay for.

RE: Electric Pros PLEASE help.
[quote]ORIGINAL: blvdbuzzard What they mean by cooling is how much air flow is the motor going to get. On a plane, if it is tucked into a tight cowl, it will be a lot warmer then if it is in the open as your setup. What does the boat weigh? Just a general question. I have this setup. It may not have the RPM you want though. It is listed as having a pitch speed of 66 MPH Motor http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m607-bigfoot110-5325-295kv.html I run it with a 6s battery and a 18X6 prop. But if you run a 16X8 or 16x10 prop you can get a higher pitch speed. Best advice is to get a watt meter so you do not let the magic smoke out of some parts :). http://www.hobbypartz.com/aeo-p0-watt-meter.html Buzz. [/quote] The boat weighs about 11 lbs without the engine. someone explained the whole watts thing to me once, but I'll be darned if I can find the thread. How does one use the information given by the watt meter? If I use this ESC, http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBRBA&P=ML I should have no problems with over drawing and burning things up? If anything goes it will be the motor, right? Or am I not understanding the concept? The electric thing is Greek to me.

Under the battery heading>cell capacity. Is there a difference between cell capacity and total capacity. If the battery is 5000mah, isn't each cell 5000mah also? RE: ESC general question
OK, so "extra" wire is out of the question. By my measurements, I could get away with 12" motor wires and 12" of battery wires. Would that be too much? That would allow the ESC to be hidden in the hull directly under the motor pylon and the batteries mid point in the hull. What would happen if I doubled up the wire? Two wires for each motor wire?

ESC general question
Other than saving money, what is the benefit to a "right size" ESC? I mean could someone put a [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBRBA&P=ML]200a 50v Hydra Ice[/link] in a Traxxas spartan without harming anything? Could I put [link=http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m606-bigfoot60-4030-400kv.html]THIS[/link] motor on it with 10 cells (40c) and be ok? The reason I ask is because the ESC would be in a REALLY small space and I don't want any fires to start in the hull. Thoughts on this ESC? http://www.hobbypartz.com/07e-c-seaking-180a.html

Electric Pros PLEASE help.
I really have no "home" for this subject as it is a cross between a boat and a plane, I talking about an air prop driven 3 point hydro. I 'm having trouble picking a prop/motor combo that will be a reliable choice. If I could direct your attention to the speed electric boat section as I have started a thread there [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11540741/anchors_11541373/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11541373]ESC general question[/link] This is the boat I intend on converting. The glow engine currently on there is a ST G2300 MKII. I know this is kind of out of place here, but I've no where else to go. The guys in the airboat section (including myself) have never done anything this big, and the speed electric (boat) people haven't either. I guess what I'm after is to spin a 16x10 or 16x12 APC two blade prop at 10-12,000 RPM without overheating any of the components, especially the water cooled ESC......Please visit the thread I mentioned.

RE: ESC general question
[quote]ORIGINAL: Goldenduff That lipo should be good. Do you know what prop that Motor requires? I think, but I could be wrong, that to get at the stated 2000w of power using a 290kv motor using a five cell you are going to need quite a large diameter prop, maybe even a relatively expensive 4 blader? [/quote] I was going to run 10 or 12 cells on that 290 KV motor....probably 10 cells I was thinking of a 16" two blade APC prop, maybe 16x10. On the 400 kv I was thinking 10 cells and a 16x8 two blade APC I'll have to shoot over to the airplane guys for suggestions on prop size.

RE: ESC general question
[quote]ORIGINAL: Goldenduff Keep the battery to esc short. From ESC to motor should be the long wires. If it's a glow conversion you will already have  Rx battery in situ. If it's in  a small space, presumably sealed, it might be worth placing the ESC on a heat conductive bed (?copper sheet) with the copper sheet running through the hull to the exterior to help increase heat disipation. All the best [/quote] 10-4 on the wires, I do have the rx battery and it will be air tight. I really like the cooling idea. I may turn it around and have fins sticking out the top of the hull. With the combination of that motor, (maybe one a little [link=http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m607-bigfoot110-5325-295kv.html]bigger[/link]) one. [link=http://www.hobbypartz.com/77p-sl5000-5s1p-40c-5555.html]2 batteries[/link] and esc, will the ESC or the batteries heat up to the point of destruction?

Weight really isn't a large concern. The wires on the craft will be long, probably up to 24 inches. It is an air prop driven 3 point hydro. Here is the boat I plan to run it on. That engine is a Super Tigre g2300 mk2

RE: airboat with 3w70
Correct, that and no dive bombs. The CG (center of gravity) is an imaginary point somewhere above the hull, but below the engine, center line, and ahead of the engine. A smaller prop just keeps it from being tippy, an inverted engine will also lower the CG. The CB (center of balance) is just that, the point at which the boat will balance if placed on a cylindrical object. The CB is usually around 30% or 1/3 the length of the hull from the transom. A 30 inch hull would have a center of balance of about 10 inches from the stern.

RE: airboat with 3w70
[X(] Well...since the engine will never really unload like it would if it were on a plane, you could run a 22" 3 blade prop to keep the CG down low. The boat will need to be just a tad wider than the diameter of the prop....say, 26- 30 wide and 39 - 53 long using 175% length to width ratio, You can adjust the ratio depending on how you want it to act in the water. A wider/ shorter boat will slide easier than a banking corner narrow/long boat. Mock it up in cardboard first to see if it's how you want it to look. That will be a BIG boat if you decide to build it.

RE: is RC dead?
I think there are way too many complainers out there. You go to a what looks like secluded spot, parking lot, sand pit, park, lake, puddle or what ever the case may be, you go to run and someone always pops up complaining that you are making too much noise. So the people with the nitro or gas trucks, boats and planes stop running because of too much flak from some hippie who wants utter silence so he can actually hear his Acapulco Gold blazin' and cracklin' while he takes a long draw on his skull bong. True story.

RE: newby has questions
You'll tear that thing apart with that power. I'd stick with something with a little less power and sensored for low speed control. It's good to have a bit of speed in reserve to get the craft out of dangers way if needed, but a boat like that was meant for scale speed recreating and not racing.

RE: E Revo Hybrid Diff Case?
If you are running 6 cell, you might consider re programming the ESC and lowering the voltage, punch control and torque settings. I couldn't hold a diff in my Emaxx even though I have aluminum cases. I turned everything down to emulate 4 cell. The bonus of doing that is that you get some really mad run times...we're talking like 45 minutes to an hour off 6000Mah.

Emaxx Mamba Monster tires
OK, I have the MM Emaxx and run on 6s Lipo. I literally BLEW the rubber off the stock rims. I bought new tires and rims, taped the tires with two layers Gorilla tape and balanced them, the tape ripped causing severe balance issues. I took them apart, retaped them with 2"wide strapping tape and balanced again only to have high speed balance issues again. I have now turned the power down to 70%, set the torque limiter at 4.0 and the punch control at 50%. I'm holding stock rims and tires together now, haven't stripped a ring gear and run times are stupid long (like 90 minutes), but, top speed is only like 45MPH. Here is my question: Are there any tires for the emaxx that can take 100% power and full speed without disintegrating? Just once, I'd like to get to do a sustained full speed run without blowing up $60 in tires/rims.

RE: E maxx battery help
Do you have a LiPo charger? As I understand, (someone correct me if I am wrong), 5000 Mah is 5000 Mah. A NiMh 5000 will run just as long as a LiPo 5000 in your set up. It's the "punch" of the battery that is the difference. A NiMh is about a 10c discharge, meaning you can only pull a maximum of 50 amps off that battery. If you had a brushless motor, 10c would not be enough and I would recommend Lipo. You will be over the rated capacity of your esc with the 7 cell batteries anyway (16.4v) . Are your old batteries 7 cell?
