RE: What to use to hold screws in?
I had a similar problem with an OS 40FP, I drilled the holes out and went to a larger thread, I think I ended up with a 6-32, I'm not sure. I originally left the screws long and did see some power loss until I pulled them out and trimmed them.

RE: Which is lighter CA or Titebond?
I have gone to mostly using Titebond as I have found myself very susceptible to the respiratory problems with CA. I do use some CA as well, since there are times it is best for(especially quick repairs, I think I will pick up some of the little ones as someone mentioned.) Somewhere on here I once read that Titebond dries lighter than CA because the water leaves as it dries, while CA cures. However, I can't imagine that it would amount to a big difference in the overall weight of the plane. As far as what to spread the glue with, I have accumulated a large pile of used gift cards that I use. I can cut them down for small areas. And I have also stuck adhesive backed sandpaper to a few.

I use the Zona razor saw and an aluminum miter box from Xacto. For angled cuts, I usually cut it a shade long and sand to fit.

Another option is to lay the scraps in a scanner and save an image file of them. It would be helpful to put a ruler in with them to keep the scale accurate.

This regulator will give you 12 volts and handle a 1 amp load. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062600 Do you have a model # or picture of the glow starter that you are using, just to put everyone at rest that you are not blowing out glowplugs. I know there are some units that basically have the same circuits that are in the power panel and will run from 12 volts. I am not sure what the current demand is on them.

Or you can make an edge sanding guide that will ensure a straight, square edge. http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/how_to_articles_for_model_builders/tools/edge_truing_fixture/index.htm Dave
I have used a set-up similar to this with good results and the same taping method that you are using with good success. RE: need some info on the bobbico accu-cycle pro series please!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was the pack charged before you put it on the accu-cycle? If not, you were testing an incomplete charge. Those settings should be good for 700 mah pack. If it is a new pack, I would expect to get close to 700mah. As I recall, the reference to .70 is that if the pack tests below 70% (or .70)of its original capacity, it should not be trusted. So in the case of the 700 mah pack, it should be over 490mah (700 x .70) Also with new packs you sometimes will see the capacity increase slightly with the first few cycles.

RE: OS LA 40 Carbeurator
Try soaking the non-plastic parts in Denatured Alcohol. That will clean up most residue. Most likely, the main issue is hardened fuel residue. You can go to the OS Engines website and download the manual for the engine for an exploded view of the carb.

RE: push rod question
ORIGINAL: ho2zoo Another option would be to build two elevator servos into the aft end of the fuselage and drive each elevator half with a short 4/40 pushrod. The servos in the tail might even help to balance it with the 1.20 engine on the nose.
The midwest Stearman tends to come rather tail heavy without adding servos to the tail. Even with the 1.20 . I haven't decided what to use for elev push rods on the one I'm building now, but I do plan to use 2 servos on the elevator(mounted up front) and Pull-pull on the rudder.

RE: Fuel line pinch test
ORIGINAL: jester_s1 The nose up test is simply checking the mix with the nose pointed upwards. Without pumps the fuel pressure drops a little in that attitude so the engines leans out a little. With the nose up peaked is ok and even preferable, but if you're too lean the engine will die with the nose up.
So, if I point it up and the engine doesn't lose RPM, I'm good to go, Right?

RE: Fuel line pinch test
ORIGINAL: opjose In addition to what Barracudahockey suggested, I also tell novices to observe the behaviour of the engine ( assuming the right glow plug is installed ), when the ignitor is pulled off. The pinch test will get you close, however if pulling off the ignitor causes a large drop in RPM's the engine is too rich and likely to stall when taxiing. The combination of the pinch test, ignitor and nose up test, done properly will give you a reliable run if there are no plumbing or fuel quality problems.
How about an explanation of the "nose up test" I've seen it and had it done on my planes, but nobody ever realy told me what to listen for.

If you can get to the other end of the wires, maybe they will disconnect from that end and you can use the harness from the "donor" radio along with the board. I wouldn't expect to have to unsolder that.

I have used paper also. To get a consistent tube, I roll it around a wood dowel a little smaller than I need and let it expand back into place. The straws sound like a good solution, but I'd have to remember to pick them up.

RE: engine quiting
Another thing to check is the brass tubing in the tank and the hose as well. If you have a pinhole or crack in either of them, it will pick up air when the fuel level is below that point and the enigine will quit. I fought this one for quite a while before finding the solution. Sometimes the easy solution is just to completely re-plumb the whole tank.

RE: bench top caddy
Getting back to being "organized". I have a habit of not cleaning up until I finish the project. I use the GP benchtopper for glues, knives and such. I do hang a few things up between uses but for the most part the bench is a "bit" disorganized, (ok it's a MESS). Concerning the rolling Xacto knives, just wrap a piece of masking tape around the handle so that it leaves a little flag. They won't roll anywhere.

I remember years back when some cameras used a "magic cube" flash. If you put one of the cubes in your pocket with keys, it could set off all four flash bulbs. I,m sure that caused some interesting motions. And yes, nicads get hot when shorted. I plugged in an RX battery backwards once and unsoldered the pins in the receiver. Also ruined the battery and set off the basement smoke alarm, not the best move at 5am.

RE: Tx Battery
Is the battery hardwired into the radio? or are you using loose AA batteries? If you can trace the wires from the battery to the circuit board and are careful with them, I don't see where it could cause any damage. I did the diode bypass that you mentioned on my Conquest myself, with no ill effects.
