Hyperion hv 130 ESC any good?
Please give me your input on this esc. I know it is very similar to the Scorpion but recently found an article that said there were a lot of problems with Hyperions not found in the Scorpion. The scorpion version simply cannot be had anywhere as every one is out including the distributor in CA. Please tell me what you know of this esc as all input is welcome. http://hyperion-world.com/products/product/HP-ATLAS-130OP tnks Curt

RE: Project GT Viper ...first build
The water intakes will be a disaster for steering and drag on the boat. I would cut them off smooth with the bottom and try it but intakes on the rudder or prop blast are usually better. do not leave them hanging down like that. curt

RE: 15cc Gas RCGF engine information thread
Just wondering why someone wouldn't consider modifying this engine inside. Raise the exhaust and intake timing, enlarge the transfers, match the case to the topend, set the head clearance, eyebrow the transfers and put a tuned pipe on it. I am considering buying one, modding it and put it in a 42 inch boat. Since it needs a battery for the ignition, mount a computer fan motor above it under the cowl. and run the fan off the ignition battery. Has anyone considered modding the engine as we do the zenoahs in boating?? curt

TwinStar 40cc Opposed Engine Any Good
I am a gas boater in need of your opinion on a twinstar 40cc opposed engine I found. I am considering converting it to watercooled if purchased via watercooled heads made for it by a friend who is a machinist. Are they any good? Compared to others; parts availability;power; can they be modified like other gas engines; are they well made; etc Your help is appreciated. Cur

RE: raceing fuel
This is my 4th yr using camp fuel and I will never go back to gasoline. Reasons Keeps for years at a time. Doesn't go bad or draw moisture. NO odor in the garage or truck when transporting. Can be left in your boat tank without worry of damage to the engine later if it is used vs old gas going bad. NO additives, like gasoline and NO ethanol in the engine or carb to do damage. Best of all My engines run super good on the stuff!!!! I buy 4-5 gals when I can find it on sale because it keeps and doesn't go bad. Also it smells go burning too[;)] Curt

RE: Fountain project - info needed...
I probably disagree with you regarding the hot spot on the engine. The exhaust area is actually the hottest. The more water pooling in the water jacket above that area is best. The water cooled flange on the exhaust helps but water should always come in at the bottom pool at the top and exit at the top. Been that way in this hobby since I been it 33yrs+. Nice job on the build and a lot of help to us new to twins. I am working on a couple now. One is at the painter and will be assembled late this wk if I get it back. The other is just beginning a rebuild of a 4 a buck 55 cat I got used. Your build is going to really help me. Tnks for your hard work in sharing the photos and experiences.[;)] Curt

Can A Large Outrunner Be Used For This-
Went to a popular Fe racing site and finally got a recommendation on the necessaries for making a new never drilled Prather 46 dv that is a very light epoxy hull without stringers. Have had the boat for 5+ yrs I got in a trade, in its original box. I read a series of posts yesterday of a person who had a 17lb wood 52 inch scale Chris Craft Runabout that he made electric from gas(homelite 30cc modded some) He wanted a top speed of 40mph and the guys helping him helped him pick out a large outrunner, esc, and batteries. The outrunner was used to hold down the costs on the motor, but they used good quality esc and batteries. Any way he ended up cooling it with an intake fan for outside air to the hull and another one for the motor. The neu motor recommended to me was 850rpms but high torque. That is almost the same concept they used in the 17 lb boat, very high torque, low rpms, but big and strong motor. That sounds like a solution that would better meet my needs in the area of motor at least. This hull is large, deep, is a scale offshore with plenty of freeboard, and is not meant to go faster than 40-45mph. I have owned previously with a 90 picco and it was almost too much for the boat. This is a sport project not for racing in any way! Please know that up front. I want to get a good esc and battery system but don't want the cost of a $450 dollar motor if it can be avoided. I am prepared to spend the $ for the neu inrunner if I must but prefer to look at all my options first. Can you help me on this. Am not a member of the other forum and know no one there so was hoping having been a member of RCU for 6+ yrs someone here would have input that could be of help. Input appreciated!![:D][:D] Curt

What size motor needed for a Prather 46 Epoxy Hull
this would be for sport purposes only. Have had it for about 5 yrs now new in the original box with all hardware and a full set of speedmaster alum hard ware too. it is an all apoxy hull without any stringers. By fiberglass standards for a similar length boat it is much lighter. Could someone layout a motor size A speed control for that motor with the specs of the needed esc lip battery system to meet the needs of the above. I am not looking for racing speeds. Maybe 30mph or alittle more. That hull is not good for over 40 before it gets unstable anyway. help appreciated

Ok, how much cheaper remember it is a 88mm long motor not the 74 like the kb. Also, how does the kb 45x74mm motor perform?? How large a hull for sport purposes will it work in?

Would Electric Boaters Buy a 36X88mm brushless motor If the price was Right?
I am trying to get a distributorship on a 36x88 mm brushless motor from china. Would there be a market for it in rc boating?? I originally wanted to get it for monster truck use and sell to that market. Am working on a price at this time but would be in the range of $75-100 to my customers here if I can get it. Can come in smooth and finned case, 2 pole much like the feigo, better bearings, and better vented front and back. Would come in 2200 and 1600 rpms/volt. HIGH TORQUE for sure. tell me what you think. What Size Boat Can I Use a 45mmX77mm Brushless Motor In?
I am looking to buy a 45x77mm brushless motor. It will handle up to 42v but will not be doing that! Probably 2x14.8 4c lipos. I have a new never drilled prather 46 inch epoxy boat that I would like to try with this motor. What can I expect from this setup? I am not into racing rather sport. I have several gas hulls now for sport, and several nitro for sport. Been in rc boating since 1978 so have seen most everything come and go but brushless electric is a new animal. Would really like to get some good out of the prather. It is quite lite and has no rails in it. It is new in original box and has a GREAT scale look to it. Input and tips appreciated! Curt

I got the specs on the Big Maxx w/fan and its specs are a buttload bigger than the Neu 1515 2d, the medusa 36 80mm, or the feigo 8xl. They are about $370 so not cheap but was wondering if anyone had tried this or some other plettenberg? Curt

OK Single Motor System, What About Beefing UP To Do??
Ok, so far you guys have helped me to decid on the Emaxx, which I have ordered, the novak 1 motor system which I have ordered. Now, what part of the car do I need to beef up for the extra power. I was thinking of buying the diff. systems that are used on the TMaxx and possibly get heavy duty cvs, drivelines, and dog bones. Also, a set of metal robinson steel gears for it to. Is that all I need to beef up? Also, what do I need to convert it to a single motor system. Forgot to ask what teeth metal gear should I get for all around running? And what gear for the motor shaft too? Where do I get the stuff we are talking about here? What about heaver shocks too? Again, tnks for all your help. Curt

Should I Run Dual ESCS and Motors OR 1 larger Motor and ESC
Have an EMaxx on the way. Wanted to convert it to Brushless and wanted to know whether to use 2 and 2 ie motors and escs or 1 and 1 with larger motor and esc. Any advantages to the 2 and 2? How does one hook a 2 and 2 up? Will a 2 and 2 make the drive line last longer? Will be using 2 Lipos rated 3800@7.4 volts and 25 c. for power. Help appreciated. Bought the EMaxx Now Recommendations on Drive Train Changes
Tnks for the input but decided the fun factor of the Emaxx was 4 me. Now I am planning to replace the titans with kirshaw twin setup when it gets here. Need all the info anyone can give on drive train changes from gears all the way to the wheels. By that I mean I want a truck that if it needs ANY changes in gears, gearboxes, drive shafts, cvs, cases, hubs, anything that will need the beefing up to handle the twin kirshaws. I own 2 hpi bajas and I have made the drive trains a bullet proof as they can be made while using fully modded zenoahs. I donot spend the Trevor Simpson coins in this area but drive train wise they are bullet proof That is what I want for this truck too. A list would be super appreciated. Regards Curt

Jim, How are you sir! Glad to see you are on here and sharing all that knowledge you too have!! Great guy. Are you back in Ohio now?? I have extra 40 and 61 pdp cylinders. Used but VERY clean if someone needs one. Now pitting a converted k&b to a pdp done by Clarance would not be fair as I bet he does a few extra things other than just putting the pdp mods on them??!!!. I have a cylinder shimed 61 pdp that runs very well. I also have a 40 blitz nib never started. With the increased timing and the pipe sat at say 12 inches a blitz should be a hot potato for sure. Put a blitz up against one of Clarence's engines now that would be ok! Curt
