RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Hey CrustyNoodle, I am also using the T-Bone bumpers front & rear during my bashing sessions AND during races as this is permitted. They have been extremely durable and so far prevented all kind of damage from happening.[sm=punching.gif] The attachment to the chassis is holding perfectly. This is a A+ modification for the Durga. It is not common to find an after market product that provides EXACTLY what it promises. Well worth the 29USD. Stef. P.S.: They were a 'DIMBLUM suggested add-on [sm=thumbup.gif]' ... Hehe, Dimblum you should start using this logo!

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Hello people! I have been racing with my DB01 for the past months! It feels great!!! So much fun!!! There are 501x/Durga/B44 buggies driven by great drivers and i always manage to get 5-6 place. Now, i am aiming higher, but i need better car handling! 1. My front "bar codes" proved to be the worst choice for the dusty tracks. Cornering at any decentspeed is impossible. At the rear the "bow ties" were excellent but that only worsened the cornering problem. So now i need new rims (front and rear) and new tires (front and rear as the "bow ties" are busted (soft). Q: I was wondering if there are bead-loc rims. Pay once for the rims a least. Q: What are the best Proline tires for the front? What compound? Medium or hard? The tracks are dusty with big patches of hard-packed. The HPI rims "Ultra 7" proved to be very sturdy! After 2 races totalling 60 minutes they are as good as new, besides the fact that they have the old tires glued. I hate that i have to ditch them!) 2. The 3racing alu dampers behaved "ok" on the bumpy track at TRIGGER. although they absobed pretty well, they didn't have enough strength to extend back. Q: Do i need harder springs or softer oil? I am not really sure the weight of the oil the lalready have... Or do i have to go for these: [link=http://www.stellamodels.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3319]54028 TRF Buggy Aeration Oil Filled Damper[/link] I have seen them both assembled and in kit form. Are there two different products? Q: Is there a better or equivalent option the the aeration dampers? 3. Someone suggested the 501x stabilizers. Are they worth it? What is your opinion, guys? Stef 1. I need ne

KIMBROUGH???? They are the absolute best! I used to bash a Twin Detonator with all-alluminium conversion + chassis + 16.8 550 motors! Tamiya servo savers (the heavy duty ones) used to last 3-5 minutes before cracking as the truck was 3.9kg, going 50mph. After switching to Kimbrough and HS-645MG the truck was INDESTRUCTABLE. Just pick the right size...

Hello malice23! I am happy everything worked out well! May i ask what your average run times with the 4000mah LiPo are? There is no plan to switch to LiPo anytime soon, but i would like to compare, so i can build a case pro or against LiPo. Right now their "exploding" attitude is a deterrent ... Hey dimblum, Could you please comment on the following items: JConcepts Bar Codes 2.2 Front Buggy Tires (Gold) (2) (JCI3017-05) Pro-Line Bow Tie M3 2.2" Rear Buggy Tires (2) (PRO8186-02) HPI 35mm Ultra 7 Rear Wheels (Black) (2) (HPI100625) HPI 30mm Ultra 7 Front Wheels (Black) (2) (HPI100624) ... on the tobee hex conversion.... I may buy these from a guy who owns a HPI Brama. At the moment i am trying to test as many combinations of wheel-tire, although the Bar Codes and (especially Bow Tie) seem to be the best for the trackwhere the next ELME race is going to take place (hard packed with small patches of loose dirt and lots of hairpin corners) Stef

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Well, I switched to the 17T pinion, because after the hex conversion i bought larger wheels and suspected they would put more strain on the motor. I always play it safe, and in this case the switch was probably not necessary. Now i switched back to a set of DF-03 wheels and back to the stock 23T. The car runs cool in almost extreme heat conditions! I don't have a 21T pinion, but i feel this would provide an excellent balance between speed and acceleration! The little blower on top of the ESC went dead, last month and switched to the PAPST blower. Excellent quality and superior cooling performance. The blower stopped working after a bashing session. I realized it was struck by small pebbles and some of them remained jammed inside the mechanism.

As Dimblum once suggested: A decent inexpensive set can be bought from JAAD Racing (each set of 12 balls will replace the balls for one diff) - [link=http://www.precisionrc.com/nv/car/product/details.is?x=y&product_id=54309]1. Diff balls[/link] [link=http://www.precisionrc.com/nv/car/product/details.is?x=y&product_id=53980]2. Thrust bearings [/link] I have installed the diff balls. On Sunday i raced under the hot Corinthian sun. Temperature was 108F, but everything was fine.

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Welcome Lanzo! My EzRun 8.5T Esc/motor combination costs 114USD. It is the same as Yeah Racings offering, although they both now offer version 2 for the price. I had no problems with overheating, after 25 minutes bashing or 3 consecutive 5 minute races. The short course i am racing has 3 medium jumps and 2 straights (30meters). I barely manage to get to top speed with a 17T pinion, although the car accelerates very fast! Basically, i bash around short grass, dirt (hard packed) and pavement. My setup: - EzRun 8.5T motor + EzRun 60A ESC (RCMart) or Yeah Racing - Stock 17T or 23T pinion (on the 91T stock spur) - Carbide rear diff balls (just to be on the safe side, but i had no indication of overheating with the stock steel ones) - Single slipper clutch - Yeah Racing (#TRF501X-018BU) Aluminum Wheel Washer Set (i wanted to fit hex wheels.Nice alternative!) - Aluminum Front/Rear Suspension Mount Set (this is the only aluminum upgrade which is barely visible and adds strength) - T-Bone bumpers (a MUST for bashing! Right price for absolute protection) After 4 months, i never had a problem. No mechanical, no electronics problem! ... Nothing broken even when i bashed around HPI E-Savages acquired a habit of taking over by ramming and throwing 'em in the air! (yes, exactly what you read!)

RE: problems with durga pulley...
Spigou, I own an EzRun BL with the 8.5T motor (4300kv). Haven't had any problems with the 91T spur coupled to the 17T or the 23T pinion. The 17T is even cooler. Of course the DB01 is fast even with the 17T and i managed to get nice lap times at the "local" track. Have you switched to carbide diff balls? They really reduce temps at the rear pulley....

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Hello Dan! Have you managed to find out the info regarding my gearing? I tried with gear charts etc. but i am not sure. Yesterday i bashed for 20 minutes non-stop in short grass and dirt environments without problems. Later in the afternoon i trained at the dirt track in Loutraki. Did 10 rounds again without problems! The dirt track testing was exceptionally good, and that was a surpise! These tires had slightly better grip than the stock ones. Specificaly, when accelerating while leaving a turn into a large straight the response was rapid and the car straightened very fast. Can't say the same about my shocks that now seem to be inadequate. Regards, Stef

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Well if you ask about compatibility, they are perfect match. I'm using them for the past 2 months, without showing signs or wear. I would be more concerned about the suspension balls cause they tend to crack quite easily. I happened to change all of them after the two rear ones popped out (one was broken). They got replaced by carbon reinforced ones. Still holding but Dimblums [link]http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-trf415-tamiya-53709-fluorine-coated-suspension-ball-p-28915.html[/link] should be a better choice. Stef

Hello Dan! I still have the EzRun 60A Brushless with a 8.5T motor (4000kv) powered by a 7.2v NiMh pack. It is fitted with a better fan from Pappst for cooling as temps here in Greece were 37C last weekend. The rims are 2.2'' and the diameter of the installed tyre is 28.5cm (were the stock ones are 27.5cm). I have used no foam insterts, but i probably will. By the way... There is no widening conversion. The hex conversion adds a little bit an the tires are 1cm wider (compared to the rear stock ones.) Thanx again, for helping....

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Hello! I fitted my Baldre with the HPI V-Groove Tire M Compound on TAMIYA Wild Dagger Wheels (0445720). The rims are 2.2'' and slightly wider than the stock original REAR rims. They are attached to the hex wheels washer conversion. I would really appreciate your comments and word of advice regarding possible gearing problems, caster/camber and impact on dogbones and arms etc. Already geared down from 23T to 17T. The reason for this conversion is to achieve better ground clearance. 70% of the time i run on tarmac and generaly high-grip surfaces. Sometimes i have to scale small obstacles (climb on the pavement) or wander on grass. For the racing occasions i use a totally different setup for loose dirt. (although, i wonder how these would behave!!!) Here are the pictures....: Front-UP Front Another issue...Before i switched to the hex conversion i noticed that my wheels (starting with the original ones up to these) were wobbly. The hex conversion didn't fix the effect. Nothing is broken...Just everything is a little bit loose.

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Norseman72, This is not normal. Everything should work fine.Take out the diff and re-install it. The A8 parts should sit deep inside the chassis sockets. If not then the cover pushes it downwards on the diff . If you leave the cover off or loosen the screws, the diff will pop out from the sockets.

Hello dimblum! You once wrote... [quote]ORIGINAL: dimblum I'll send some pictures over later today since I left my camera at work. The bumpers use all existing holes to mount. Do you have any pics? Stef.

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Hi there! I have installed both the washer conversion and the tyre-rim set you mention. The washer conversion is fine and fit as expected. They add a couple of mm in width, especially at the rear system. The tyre-rim set is good looking but... The tyre compound is very hard with a plastic feeling but has an acceptable grip on all surfaces for bashing! They are not recommended for racing. My set was also sloppily glued. This is the first pre-glued set i have but i did expect it to be better glued. Verdict: Buy the washers. They expand your rim choices. For rim/tyre choose the 3racing set only because it is really cheap.

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
[quote]ORIGINAL: B44&501xRacerEX I see that running aluminum parts creates stress in other areas. Some people even race with aluminum A-arms, which is pretty much pointless. The whole point of me getting a 501x is to be able to finish the race. And so far I have finished every race with it. It's one tank of a 4-wheel buggy. People have managed to nail me while jumping, they ended up breaking an a-arm and I still kept going. I love this car! [/quote] Well, my Twin Detonator ended up weighing 3.8kilos going 50+. Using aluminium parts is only for adding the "bling" factor. The Tamiya plastic is far more flexible and in many cases lighter than alu. The problem with breakages is mainly at the joints where plastic and alu meets. Alu A-arms receive most of the force of impacts and transfer most of it to the plastic sockets/joints. Plastic arms flex and absorb most of the impact force. One reason to love DB-01 is that is anything breaks is is more or less detached from the rest of the car, damage is localized, so repairs cost less for less parts. I still hav to find a way to increase ground clearance. Would it be wise to use taller wheels? Or a set of longer shocks? Does anyone know the size of the DB-01 shocks in cm or inches?

[quote]ORIGINAL: sirsomrak woww.didnt noe tat.i almost bought the 9t but luckily i came hre for opinions first.thx crusadores.but the price factor now.the 5.5t is CHEAPER than the 8.5t on ebay.which would you recommend for durga? maybe 8.5t has more torque? what is the equivalent of the 8.5t and 5.5t in brushed motor turns? [/quote] Alright, again i have recently read that the equation is something like BL turns x 2 - 2 = Brushed turns 8.5T x 2 -2 = 15 T (a 15T brushed motor) From experience now, the 8.5T i use is ENOUGH. Not extremely fast, and has enough torque to climb. It feels marginally controllable, at full speed, any more speed would ruin the fun! The track i race has a 40 meter straight. With the 23T pinion i barely reach top speed as i have to slow down before entering the next 90degrees turn. Why is the eBay price for the (faster) 5.5T lower? Perhaps because it is not the preferred motor? Keep in mind that if you want to bash, extreme speeds are the way to damage. I used to spend a fortune to reach the speed of my brother-in-law E-Savage with my Twin Detonator (truck). When i managed that (aluminium chassis & conversions, dual batteries, dual 550 motors etc.) things started to break. At 50+kmh something will always break. That almost ruined my love for RCs! sirsomrak, I have the 8.5T motor on the 60A ESC. The ESC is small and fit fine. The motors has the typical 540 dimensions but i read somewhere that the ezRun x.5T motors are true 540 size motors, while the 9T, 13T, etc.. are 380 motors in 540 sized can. 540 means better torque.

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Sirsomrak, I own a Tamiya DB-01 (Durga/Baldre). As Dimblum said, this is a kit-only car. It is an easy-medium built that may take up to 6 hours. The instructions are very nice, but there are a couple of tricky steps that are all explained in this forum. I always prefer kit-only because it helps you get a clear perspective of the cars inner mechanics. The DB-01 is rather difficult to break. I am a novice driver and an experienced basher (hehe!!!). Haven't managed to brake anything so far, neither on the track nor in my backyard. A complete DB-01 will cost you 220$ with a cheap Futaba radio. The slipper clutch is 23$. The T-Bone bumpers (for bashing) 20$. I installed the Hobbywing (#Combo 18-Car) EZrun-60A-SL-H+8.5T Motor+Programcard for USD$90.50, which is EXCELLENT! Last Sunday i raced against 3 E-Firestorm 10T and a E-FIRESTORM FLUX on the dirt track. Only the Flux was really competing! Lost 3 out of 5 to the Flux, mainly because i a am a rookie! With the stock oil-filled shocks it handles quite nice. For racing you probably need to consider the Aeration Shocks (59$) Spare parts in Greece are 50/50 to find and expensive compared to the availability and prices i get from [link=http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?sort=1a&keywords=db01]RC Mart[/link] (Hong Kong) or Tower Hobbies(bit more expensive) Great buggy, in my opinion!

Hello Dimblum (and all present in the forum)! Received my T-Bone Racing bumpers! I agree they are perfect fit and seem extremely durable. During the Easter break i tested them in a head to head collision with a E-Savage!!! Nothing broken! Phew! Second time the E-Savage drove right over my DB-01 after bouncing of the bumper! Hehe! The was no 3rd time. Might be repeating myself, but this is an excellent R/C car! Further testing on the local R/C off-road dirt track went fine. I need better shocks or just springs. Stock ones are very soft so the car is bouncing on its belly! The T-Bones have one negative side-effect. They reduce GC by a few mm! [b]Has anyone tried longer shocks? What size would fit without destroying the geometry?[/b] Dimblum, you mentioned the JConcepts Rulux wheels, but i am not sure which type. There must be different ones front/rear. Do you have a Product Number?
