RE: Axe CP - Tilts Right on Takeoff
Yeah having the tail tilted a little can cause it to "swerve" or tilt on take off but also gyro law states that any vertical movement is also going to cause lateral movement. basically, when heli going up, it also goes sideways but soon stablizes.

RE: Queston on ball joints?
yep... one side is larger than the other side. Some people don't realize this and end up breaking it.

Calculating target headspeed
I don't know if anyone has found this but just thought I'd share, it provides target headspeed for any electric heli and also can find desired pinion gears, and stuff. Anyway here's the link. http://www.readyheli.com/Online_Headspeed_Calculator_s/81.htm

RE: Do you get that locked in feel?
to be honest, I'm using FUT3103 analogs, and a Hitec 65MG for the tail, also analog. It's not the servo that gives the locked in feel it's the gyros that you use. I have to FUT GY401 and it's dead locked for the tail. It took me a while to set it up right. I've got 25%delay and limits are maxed out. Stable hovers have everything to do with proper setup, like aligning the swashplate flush with the heli, having all the paddles and blades balanced. Basically, anything that makes it vibrate really bad, will cause it to not hover.

RE: How do you Tach?
one way to keep your heli down to check rotor speed in all ranges is to have a metal ruler go over both sides of the skids and have bricks on each side of the ruler to hold the heli down, this will keep the heli from lifting when you want to check the rpms @ points 4 and 5 on the throttle.

RE: what is the advantage of the CF tail boom??
I don't want to start a "who's you know what is bigger", but CF does bend. However it has such a high memory that it goes right back and you would never know the difference. Everything has flex to it, even steel. If nothing flexed or gave a little, it would break on the first pressure applied. A good example is the all carbon fiber road bikes. Kinda getting off subjects but they didn't make it all CF just for weight advantage but for the flexibility, metal frames over time, bend, crack, break. CF bends, goes back, bends, goes back. Over flex and yes CF will break. But what I'm saying is that CF does flex. Ok I'm done.

RE: Tail drift in HH mode on TREX V2
I don''t know if anyone''s metioned this on this post about the difference with blinking light or none for the gy401, It should be solid light is HH, no light is rate mode, but the gyro has a really hard time intitializing and actually operating correctly if you had put any subtrim or ATV. The 401 requires that all sub-trim and servo throw value be set to 0% or default. What happens is the the controller is sending a message to the servo what is center, and the gyro is also trying to tell the servo what "needs" to be center. This can cause unexplained tail wandering, heading not holding, whatever you want to call it. If you want to adjust the servo travel, do it mechanically by moving the servo up and down the boom and also do it on the gyro itself where it says "limit", the delay should be at 0% for analog servos and for digital servos you can play around with it. But I didn''t read all the slides, just skimmed through so if someone said this already then disregard.

RE: Building a Dynaflite Super Decathlon
yep, moving my stuff took a few days but I've been busy doing some remodeling, like taking out the old green carpet and putting in hardwood. That's time consuming. I also did some wall reconstruction, I put an 80" bar window between the kitchen and the living room, but enough of that. When I was moving my plane around and my desk fell onto my wing crushing the wingstuts and tearing the mounting block off the rib so there's a setback that needs to be addressed. The wing itself is not damaged, the struts pretty much kept the desk off the soft balsa. So thats about all thats' been going on. Well you all have a wonderful Christmas holiday.

RE: Building a Dynaflite Super Decathlon
By the way guys, I'm back from Iraq and as soon as I get moved into my new house I'll try to finish what I started. When I started this thread I had hopes of finishing that year or the year afterward but things don't always go as plan. Like military obligations. Anyway I've since been really hooked on heli's but planes are still my first love.

RE: Building a Dynaflite Super Decathlon
Hey Hipshot, don't try to put a smoke line to that, all you'll get is a bunch on pressure in your oil tank. That is pressure release. The same in a Saito engine. When you hookup smoke lines, they inject right into the muffler canister or manifold pipe going to the muffler.

RE: Building a Dynaflite Super Decathlon
I had to cut a copy of the w2 rib and epoxy that to the fuselage. I'm hoping my engineering thoughts on this will hold up, so far I've had the wing tips held off the ground and I bounced the plane a little to feel for resistance or any cracking at the joint there. So far no stress cracks have been found. The real test is when I get it flying.

RE: just got blade cx today
There is also a wall charger that eflight will sell for that battery, I got a chance to fly it at our store. I was flying that thing all over the place, It is amazing how easy it hovers and how great the controls are. I would definitely consider this as a beginners heli. I put it in the controls of someone who has never flown a heli before and he had a pretty consistant hover with it. And with some practice he could of been flying till the batteries went dead.

It's possible to build a plane of that simplicity in a short time. I built my Extra 300S .60 in two whole weeks. From bare balsa stick to fully built frame ready to cover.

RE: Bdavison's E-flite Blade Assembly
I used that method. (water method) I read it on an R/C Car site that shows the huge advantage of using this method. It works well with the enclosed can motors. It shows the stats for the before and after graph. The results are very amazing. The motor had more power and rpm's than just running them straight out the package. I'll look for the site and share with you all.

RE: E-FLIGHT BLADE CP
does anyone know of a way without the manual to tell whether or not the blade grips have the mod? Thanks.
On all the new updated versions they have a separate page that states that this edition has the 3 BB grip setup. IF you don't see that page, the blade grip is standard 2 BB. Usually the page will be on the second to last page on the manual, for some people I know they never look through the manual till they bring their heli to me for repairs.

RE: E-FLIGHT BLADE CP
I thought I had seen somewhere that somebody had a two-motor upgrade/replacement tail motor setup.
This is not the best option if you want a better tail. The Direct Drive system is the best way to go. GWS sells a tail kit that is for a DD setup. The DragonFly II DD model, uses this setup and will fit directly on the CP. You will need a DD motor, GWS tail/vertical fin, and DD prop. There is much info about this DD setup on this thread and on other sites on the web.

RE: E-FLIGHT BLADE CP
On my Blade I am having issues with the tail motor. When I first start on a pack the Nose wants to turn right so I move the trim all the way to the left, after 30 seconds to a minute the tail is so weak I have to move the trim all the way to the right and hold the stick to the right about half way to keep the nose straight. Would a DD Tail help this or is something else I could do?
Because the tail is controlled by a motor it will do this with or without a DD tail setup. The DD tail setup is only for improving the stability of the tail. And yes it does do a wonderful job. The tail is more responsive and the gyro seems to work better at keeping the tail in one place. If you want a heli that will not have to have the tail adjusted every flight, I suggest getting a belt or shaft driven tail heli like the MX400, TREX, Shogun... and others like them.

RE: Gyro Location
The gyro is going to rotate the same as the helicopter.
Not necessarily, hypothetically if the gyro was located on the tail, the gyro wouldn't be rotating with the heli, it would be swinging. I agree that if it can be mounted on the rotation point the gyro would work the best, but like most said it's hard to situate the gyro under the mast so they mount it as close to the mast as possible. That's why I see them mounted on the tail boom as close to the mast as possible.

RE: E-FLIGHT BLADE CP
What chargers are you using for your flight packs?
I'm using Lipo batteries and I use a celectra lipo charger. It takes about an hour or so to charge my 3 cell 1500 Mah pack.
How many flight packs do you use?
As many as you can afford.
What batteries are you using in your transmitter?
Duracell or Energizers AA.
When you fly when do you know when to stop flying?
I'll notice the battery doesn't have as much power as when I first start flying.
Do you stop before you start to loose power?
I quit and charge up as soon as the batteries goes down, the speed contoller in the CP doesn't have the correct cutoff for lipos.
When reaching the end of the battery charge does it slow down gradual or fall off fast?
On the stock Nickel metal battery the voltage drops off pretty fast and you'll notice it when the tail whips out of control on you. On the Lipo's it's pretty gradual, and then if it gets too low the tail will starts acting crazy too.

Gyro Location
After seeing so many heli's in my RC airplane flying experience. I have begun to get into heli's. I got an electric heli to start with so that I can learn on. I've been doing alright so far. My question is which is better, having the gyro mounted on the tail boom or right below the mainshaft. I'm guessing since the gyro works by canceling unwanted affects it should be mounted right below the axle point being the mainshaft since this will have the most acurate rotation other than having the gyro located on the tail which seems to swing. Which is most accurate for the gyro to operate?

RE: Is hovering really that hard to learn / do?
I learned to fly inside my apartment and when you go outside it just seems too easy. Flying indoors helped me a whole lot with learning the basic hovering functions. When outside hovering becomes natural but now I'm learning forward flight and proper orientation. Just take it one step at a time, you can't expect a baby to run if they can't walk yet.

RE: E-FLIGHT BLADE CP
Yeah I posted that video a while back, a friend of mine who flies planes knew I was into helis and told me to check the video out myself. I was impressed and had to show it here. The full video shows other pilots trying to do what he did but crashed, the site is www.flyingcirkus.com you have to find it in the Community video galleries. I think it's on the second page of the video site, the discriptions are, "Why can't American TV be like Japanese TV..." or something like that.
tail end swings left even when the trim is all the way over. Wich way do i have to adjust the gyro/proportion?
You mean the nose swings right (tail left) you have to turn the proportional mixing counterclockwise.
