shop ideas
Guys, just moved into a new house and had a shop built into it. Let me hear some ideas please. It's about the size of a one car garage.

Nah, I've spoken on my cell about two feet away from a buddy of mine while he was flying. No problem.

RE: Opinions on Magnum 4 strokes please
Great engines. I have a lot of them, but did experience my first bad one just last week. I have it on my Sig Skybolt ARF and had my Mag .91RFS crank break while flying. I was able to get it down deadstick fine, but the engine is toast with a busted crank. I'm only assuming the bearings gave way too and maybe even the piston. etc, etc. The engine was purchased about a year and a half ago but only had about a gallon through it as it sat new in the box for a long time before finding a ride. Anyway, I called Magnum and they said the 'warranty' was expired and I would have to pay to have it rebuilt. The metal on the crank was different shades so there was surely something wrong with it from the start and it was only a matter of time. Oh well......just my bad experience with one of my many Magnums.

"I am wondering if anyone else here on the forum is a pilot." We are all pilots here. [:D][;)] SIG LT-40 is a nice kit to begin with. Get some help when first flying though.

I like the manual version. More contol seems to me and no need for a battery......but that's just me. [:D]
ORIGINAL: carrellh My brother had that happen twice. On his, the pin for the rod broke off. Both times he sent them to the Global service center with the sales invoice and a letter, and they replaced the crank at no charge. I guess they got a batch of bad crankshafts.
Yup, that's exactly what happen. Glad I was able to get the plane down. [;)]

That's probably what I'll end up doing is not glueing it together. I will put the nylon strap on there though.

blew up my Magnum .91RFS
Had my relatively new Magnum .91RFS blow up yesterday during a flight of my trusty Sig Skybolt ARF. I landed without incident and walked away with zero damage. Opened up the engine and the crank is blown. The metal looked as if it was two different shades so my guess it had a weak stress point in the metal. I bought the engine a while ago but had it new in the box until installing it in the Skybolt. It has less than a gallon through it. What now??

RE: GP Piper Cherokee wing question
I haven't flown my yet either. As far as balance, I'm using a 6.0v 1400mah nicad for the rx and a Magnum .52RFS for the power. I haven't balanced it yet, but I'll surely post back to let you know. I have the battery pack just next to the servos, but could possibly move it up under the fuel tank if needed to move the CG forward some. As far as glue for the wing, I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do yet. Transporting to the field is not too big of an issue for me. I just might glue them together. My wing halves slide nicely onto the aluminum rod then into the wings. 'They're not snug at all. Hummmm, decisions?? What prop are you guys using? I'm considering a 12x6 or 12x8? Take care.

I called a hobby shop in Dallas to buy Powermaster fuel as my LHS that sold it closed its doors. I was told Powermaster is out of business???!!! I've been flying for 10 years plus now and have only burned Powermaster 15/18 and 15/20 this whole time. What now??

GP Piper Cherokee wing question
Putting the finishing touches on my Cherokee and would like some help trying to figure out the wing. According to the instructions the wing just goes on the aluminum rod and is then finished off with a nylon strap at the base of the wing? So what holds the whole thing together? Did anyone glue both halves together? Any problems with just running the stock setup as GP suggests? Thanks.

RE: Super Skybolt vs Super Stearman
I have the skybolt matched up with a magnum .91RFS swinging an APC 14x6 prop. Nice flying plane, I'd recommend it 10 times over. Great easy build..minimal assembly required at the field but all bipes do. [;)]

RE: Great Planes J-3 Cub .40 ARF fabric covered, whos got one?
I have one. Mine has a Magnum 70RFS in it and it's probably too much. EASY on the throttle with your .91RFS. Great flying plane.....very, very floaty which makes it a bit difficult to land sometimes[:D]. Have to use rudder when turning and when taking off/landing and very easy to ground loop and tends to weather vane into the wind. It looks perfect in the air. I think every R/C pilot should have a J3 Cub in their fleet at some point. Good luck.

I've been flying just about 9 years and still get nervous. Happens to the best of us. [:D] If you're too nervous, ask a pilot you trust to help get the maiden out of the way for you, nothing wrong with that. The second flight is usually just as good as the first without all the trimming needed.
