Wild Jare Cap
The other day I wuz on here reading about the new electric planes & the 73" wingspan planes Tom has now. Whilst I was doing that I saw the "Show me Your Caps" post. Reminded me that I had never uploaded any pictures of mine. When these first came out I ordered an all white one with the 91" wings, thinking I could have some fun with it. There was a lot of discussion about the smaller one but never much about the one I got. Gotta tell you guys, you missed the boat on this one. I powered this bird with a 3W 80XI & put Hitec digitals all around for servos. Sullivan smoke system & designed a custom scheme which I had Brad at B&E Graphics cut out for me. I think it turned out pretty nice & it has insane power! So much so in fact I am actually thinking about putting a 3W 70 in it instead. Anyways, here is a couple of shots of the plane. There are no wheel pants because for some reason, my white plane came with red pants. Didn't work so well with the color scheme I designed so I left 'em off, figuring to order a white set later. I just never got around to it.

RE: Wild Jare Cap
Thanks guys, The Cap turns heads at every field I take it to. I get a lot of questions about what kit it is & is it scratch built? stuff like that. Nobody believes me when I tell 'em it is an ARF. Dunno if he still does it but Tom used to let you special order solid color planes & that pretty much guarantees you a unique airplane. A little imagination is all it takes. One thing though, don't let anyone tell you you can't overpower a plane. With the 3W 80XI this thing refuses to land, even at an idle. I have to kill the engine on approach to get it on the ground. 'Course having a CG ov 4.5" at the wingtip has a little to do with that. [8|]

That is my Gen II 300 Extra in the background. All in all, I have 4 of Toms planes. Used to have 6 but lost my favorite (the big 260, discontinued) & sold one (the Gen I Edge). Some guy came up to me at a fly-in down in NC and said he really wanted it, bought it on the spot.

RE: New product; Wild Hare goes electric!
I can wait. No real rush anyway. I was checking out the web page & saw the 73" inch planes. Are they in stock & what are the changes that are in store for them? When I was looking at the 73" 260 I noticed something about a redesign. I really liked my 33% 260. Had over a thousand flights on it when the transmitter batt. failed & she went in. Probably the best flying ARF I have ever flown. If I ever find another NIB it will be mine even if I have to sell my soul! "Course I am going to have to go back to work first! Disability doesn't allow much in the budget for big planes.

RE: New product; Wild Hare goes electric!
Hey Tom, long time since I visited your forum. ( Due to a renewed love of yellowfin & Striped Bass fishing) Hurt my back at work last winter & was laid up for months but have been flying again for the last three or 4 weeks. Still flying 4 of my 5 Wild Bunnies but due my back I need help to fly (starting & assembly). These look like they may be a solution to my problem. I'm not supposed to lift over 5 lbs so this is under the limit & at 56" wingspan it is big enough to satisfy me. Guess I better start saving up my quarters. What time of the month do you expect the planes to arrive?

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Well, finished her up this evening (for the second time). Took a little longer then I expected because evidently one of the wings was damaged a little bit while she was laying around in the garage & I had to re-skin & re-cover a portion of it. Come to find out, the red covering looked darker sitting around in my shop. I went & bought a new roll only to find I already had two partial rolls! Anyways, this time I added some bling to the plane (similar to the stuff I have seen in this thread, thanks guys) and I added flying wires to the wings like the full size plane has. They will serve two purposes. One is to slow the plane on downlines & the second is to help keep the wings from blowing apart. I don't trust the wing joiner & wood to aluminum bond on the top wing. Changed out the tail wheel for a Hague style & the spinner for a Tru-Turn. Power this time around is a RCGF 50 with a Pitts style muffler. Servos are Hitec 5645's with SWB arms. The rudder is set up pull-pull style. It has NiMh batteries, 2000 ma flight battery & a 1400 ma ignition. I dunno what the all up weight is but it balanced with no additional weight & 2 oz. in the left wings for lateral balance. Sure is a pretty plane, I hope I have better luck this time around. edited for spelling

RE: Great Planes Ultimate 160
Yeah, ain't that the truth. This one is nice & light, came with the muffler & a Walbro carb (rear induction like the DA & ZDZ). The jug is blue anodized. Its a good looking little engine actually. Spent the day salvaging the tail group from the old fuse. I couldn't believe Tower charged only 99.00 for the fuse but wanted 69.99 for the tail group. I have limited finds right now so I decided to recover the tail from the old fuse. I was successful but it took most of the day. I think I could have built one from scratch just about as quickly. Transferred the landing gear, painted the cockpit, installed a pilot, built a nice dash panel & attached the canopy. in between working on the Ulti I was also putting my sons Twist 60 fuse back together since he snapped her in two trying something a little to close to the ground. After that I was pretty well shot. Tomorrow I'll figure out the mounting points for the engine & attach the tail group.

RE: Great Planes Ultimate 160
I got one of these when they first came out & flew it with a ZDZ 50. On the 2nd flight I had a deadstick while leaving the runway (about 10' off the ground) and bashed up the front end but other then that no damage to the plane. I'm home on disability now & decided to get some of my hanger queens back in the air including this one. New fuse arrived yesterday & I am hoping to have her in the air before long. This time the power will be a chinese 50cc that has been laying around a while, can't remember the manufacturer.

RE: What plane for Saito 100 twin?
If you are looking for scale flight & not high performance, I would look at a Pacific Laser 200 or maybe the one from seagull. The engine should allow fitting inside the cowl & should not be too much of a problem to balance as they are designed for larger displacement engines. If you are into Bipes, I have one fitted into a Goldberg Ultimate kit that I placed the rudder servos in the tail to balance. I believe that also comes in a ARF. Mine actually flies the Goldberg very well but it sure ain't gonna hang on the prop. It will do most scale acrobatics but needs a good run to get a proper looking loop. Set up properly that engine will produce more power then you think, I run mine on 30% Cool power with a 13X6 APC.

RE: Skyshark Christen Eagles SHIPPING TODAY !
Saito 1.80 might be a good choice for it the 110 just ain't a gonna cut it. Mine is a hanger queen now but when it was flying I had a Brison 2.4 for power & it was not overpowered at all. I pulled the 2.4 with the intention of sticking a 1.80 in it as I have one but just kind of lost interest. Let me know how it works out. I might revisit this project. By the way, I had to add so much weight to the plane to balance it with the 2.4 on the nose that I was disapointed in the flying performance, which is why she's a hanger queen now.

RE: Proper etiquette on when it's your turn?
When I go to the field I go to fly. I like to BS with the other guys too but I really go to fly. I'm usually there for about 4 hours when I go & I try to get 6 or 7 flights in. At our field it is unusual to see more then 3 planes in the air at any given time. There are 4 flight stations & most people have 40-60 sized planes. I myself fly 35%ers but unless someone is flying crazy, I don't mind flying with the little guys. Even the helichoppers don't bother me as long as the get away from the runway when I need to lift off or set down. Enjoy yourself. I'm sure if you are hogging the runway, someone will tell you.

I'm green with envy!! Just last night I lost mine due to a failed transmitter battery. One of my all time favorite planes. I hope Tom does another run of 'em in the spring 'cause while I like his new planes, I think the foam core wing planes just fly better & the few oz. difference in weight don't matter to me none. Yer plane looks great!

RE: Need some 35% Sukhoi eye candy!
Thanks. I kinda like having a "Unique" plane. This cap is gonna be my knockaround plane next year. I go to a lot of IMAA fly-ins & after hours is when the "real" fun starts. Thats what this plane is for. Powered by a 3W 80 & all servo'd up with the new Titanium servo's, I just know this thing is gonna be a blast! Oh well, this is the Suki thread after all. I just wanted to show that creating a unique scheme & showing some of your own personality doesn't necessarily have to be that hard. I did the design, B&G graphics did the cutting in vinyl & it took about an hour to apply

RE: Need some 35% Sukhoi eye candy!
ORIGINAL: Aerohead Unfortunately, a lot of people think that getting a single color plane so they can come up with their own scheme is a great idea, until they actually buy one. I'm on the lazy side, or I probably would build from kits. But I never could come up with a scheme I wanted to use for my all-white 35% Extra. The few I liked seemed like too much work to do. I ended up keeping it in my shop for a couple of years, and eventually resold mine. Guess I'm just an ARF kind of guy.
Actually, you just need a little bit of imagination. I ordered one of the 91" caps in all white last spring & am just getting around to finishing it. Here's a preview. Not a real good pictue as the wife was playing with the cell phone but you get the idea.

If you wannt to know about the 3D capabilities of the Sukhoi, find your way over to the Down _on __ the__ Deck. Check out the videos. The guy doesn't show any precision flying but if you are interested in hovering, well he makes it do that Very well.

Mine is at 4 & 1/8 " (at the tips) It is still very precise but 3D is a piece of cake. I started out at 4" & moved the CG one time. 22. lbs, 05 oz. with a BME 100 turned out to be an excellent combination. I am about to install the new BME 115 in it while I decide on wether or not to order one of Tom's new Sukhoi's, or something else. Wait 'till you see this thing wind up in a knife edge spin. RE: mounting the Super Regulated Reliaswitches
Kurt, I stand corrected, & I apoligize. Maybe before I shoot off my mouth I should investigate further. I understand about the Sharp chip having more current handling capabilities then a similar smd device, in my line of work I run into this all the time (Lockheed Martin design engineer). How come is it that you guys don't provide some support for the heat sink at the other end of the board? I guess that is really what got me looking at the regulatorwith an "interested" eye. Some sort of restraint on that end would seem to be called for & increase resistance to vibration by about 33%. ( I borrowed a picture here).

RE: centering and hs-5625 / 5624
The 5945's are almost as fast as the 5625's if both are ran on 6 volts. The Yak is a great flying plane but I chose not to use the higher priced servos in it due to its size. I saved them for the bigger stuff. As to speed, dntmn is right, the 5925's are wicked fast, I have them all around on my Wild Hare 260, except for the rudder. Wouldn't trade 'em. I like the response you get with the faster servo. In the Yak, you don't need 180 oz. on the surfaces & like he said, you can always change the gears if you put 'em in a bigger plane. I plan on flying planes until they are worn out so I buy for the plane at hand, not for the one I might get one day but I certainly understand the philosophy. The rudder servo on the Yak does need to be pretty stout. Dang rudder is as big as a 30% plane. Using a weak servo here will show up in performance. In my 260 I have two Jr 8611's on the rudder. Figured there was no way a 33% plane needed that much power so I unhooked one of 'em. After one day of flying I hooked it back up. It was very noticable. I think the Yak could literally fly on its rudder it is so big so that servo needs to support the plane. 120 oz. on everything else will be fine, just maked sure they have a good gear train, no nylon or "Karbonite".

RE: centering and hs-5625 / 5624
Lots of people have mentioned centering problems with the 56 series servos from Hitec. Personally, I haven't had any issues with them at all. I have the programmer & use it whenever mounting multiple servos in the same surface but as far as centering goes, that has never really been an issue for my stuff. I've had more of a problem with the mid-range Futaba digital stuff then the Hitec stuff. In the Yak, 5625's all around. You will be fine. Don't go any less though, the surface areas of the control surfaces are huge. It is gonna respond much faster then the Kankge Cap. Fly better too.

RE: mounting the Super Regulated Reliaswitches
I would definitely mount that in foam. That thing is built with 1960's technology. I'm not saying they aren't good regulators, several of my buddies are using them & I am about to order some for my new bird. I'll say from an engineers point of view that resistance to vibration was not part of the design criteria in that particular device.
