RE: Lost my shop buddy last night
I feel for your loss. We lost a wonderful long time male cat (Smokey) earlier this year - he "escaped" through a screen window to chase bugs and never returned. He was deaf and could not hear us call him during our many searches. We then picked up two new Main Coon mix kittens from a shelter 8 weeks ago, Bullwinkle and Cubby - a brother and sister. Now, we just found out (after $800 in vet bills) that Cubby has FIP and only has a week or two left in her life. We really get attached to these guys and it hurts to lose them under any circumstance. Pets are great companions and are always there for us. Too bad more people are not that way.... Steve

RE: have to share room with WIFE..........
ORIGINAL: pmerritt These guys sure talk big with a keyboard in hand while little lady is in the kitchen is probably making you an antifreeze burger.  Have fun as you sit there typing insulting messages about them to your buddies.  Enjoy life when the glaucoma sets in, the balsa glue has worn out and the monokote won't stay ironed on any longer wondering why your last trimester of life is so lonely.  When that little lady has found her a real man that knows the priorities of buidling a long term relationship and placing those priorities in order, you'll be missing that special someone to hold hands with and rock on the porch with as the two of you reminence the good old days.    Married almost 30 years to this wonderful lady that knows my love for this hobby the answer is, wife/relationship first, hobby second.  If you've forgotten the raincoat, it's wife 1, kids 2, hobby (probably never).   For the guy with one room neediing to share with the spouse, it's called time management.  When she's in there, you watch tv, mow the yard, get on RCU and window shop, change the car oil.  While she's occupying that room, make her a nice cup of tea, take her a little snack, put a flower on her table.  I bet the next time you want to go flying, she'll help load the SUV!  When her favorite reality tv is on and the room is empty, the room is yours.  When the lights go out, you'll have one more day with the only thing in llife that matters. Enjoy life, it's way to short.
Good point, but while she is in your room and after you make her that cup of tea - go spend some quality time at the Hobby shop and buy more stuff to work on for when you get back into your room....[:D]

RE: WW II weekend this weekend Reading, Pa
I have been attending for a number of years and I also felt it was a bit light-all around. Some years are better than others and as you know, things can be affected by the weather and condition/availability of the planes (like the B-24). I was there on Sunday and a surprise rain storm cancelled some of the late day activities. I did not see a P-51 fly other than early in the morning as I was driving in. I was a little dissapointed but even during "off years" this remains a great show. I will be back next year. Hopefully they have the engines mounted on the P-61 and have a P-47, P-38 or Spit at the show. Steve

RE: Any instructions on how to build a radio control system from scratch?
ORIGINAL: LesUyeda ''but I would never want to do it again. '' Don't know why not. Our first color TV was a Heathkit. Wife and older kids stuffed boards, I qc'd and soldered. Worked first time around:-))))))))))))))))) Cost me as much as one off the floor, but I never had to pay any service calls. Les
Me too, except I was the "Kid". My dad and I built one when I was 12 and I stuffed most of the boards. Great experience, learned alot. TV worked great for many years. Instructions were so good, anyone could have built one. Maybe the ARF Mfr's should study an old heathkit instruction book![:D] Steve

RE: RE:
If you do a search on the internet you will find multiple hits for more info. Can't wait for the documentary! I remember seeing the documentary about Glacier Girl a number of years back and then had the chance to get up close to her at WWII Weekend in Reading PA. The plane looks better than it most likely was when it came off the assembly line - absolutely beautiful restoration job. Hopefully these spits follow the same path. I realized after the fact that I posted this in this forum - not the Warbirds forum where there are at least two other threads..... Steve

"NIB" Full Scale WWII Spitfires found in Burma
Did not see this posted on RCU yet. Approximately 20 new in crate Spitfires have been located in Burma. They were buried in WWII to be hidden from the enemy. Here is a link to one of the news articles: http://wallstreeit.blogspot.com/2012/04/lost-spitfires-found-burma.html They may be in mint condition - what a find!!! Steve

RE: WRAMS Show-2012
I hope that the new venue will allow the show to grow again to what it once was. The economy has not been a big help either - hopefully for all of us, that will also improve. I always like to see what the manufacturers/distributors have to show and what may be over the horizon. The past few years have been anemic with respect to the presence of the larger suppliers. That being said, it seemed a bit better this year. I was impressed with Robart's booth and Sullivan was there with a nice setup as usual. Some of the booths remain small and one absence I noted was Dave Brown Products. Although I like to pick up a "deal or two" at these events, in my opinion, I generally felt there were too many vendors peddling low quality merchanidse and not enough of the manufacturers showing their products. The static display and boat pond were great. It was also nice not having to pay for parking and bridge tolls! Steve

RE: Bi-Plane with-out cabanas
I have a newly assembled Tiger Bipe 40 hanging in my basement (been there a while). I have a TT Pro .36 in it. Hope to fly it this Spring. Neet little bi plane, but I do not believe it will be a "barn burner" - just a little knock around Sunday flyer. Good luck with yours.' Steve

RE: Kits sitting in the box...
27 NIB kits - some older/discontinued ones like sportser bipe 40's and 90-120 Super Sportster kits 27 NIB ARFs 9 ready to fly Now, I just turned 55 so I wonder if I have enough time for all of this or if I should unload some???? Nah, on second thought, my Wife can do that after I'm gone! Maybe I'm becoming more of a collector. We have another local swap meet coming up and I get alot of enjoyment in selling and buying - it's almost a hobby unto itself in the off season.[8D] Steve

RE: Where to fly in North Jersey
I do not know of any close to Elmwood Park, but I belong to a club in NW NJ: http://toponewjersey.org/ We have two nice fields and the closest to you would be the one just off I80 near Mt Olive. The other is further up in Sussex County. Steve
