New OrangeRX surface recievers from HobbyKing
Has anyone tried these yet, HobbyKing has new surface 3ch OrangeRX recievers that are DSM2 compatible. I have a few of the similar 6ch air rx, all work fine so far. Tried one in a glider, approx 2M wing.... got it up there pretty small and no range issues that I noticed... Hoping these are good as well cause for approx. $20 ea. I could swing a new project/build easier.... could get the rx and a decent steering servo for what the brand name rx would run..... Just looking fr thoughts, here's a linky... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__23784__OrangeRx_GR300_Spektrum_DSM2_3Ch_2_4Ghz_Ground_Receiver.html

RE: New Proboat Products: BlackJack 29, Impulse 31 V2 and more
I was wanting the Miss Geico before on looks, then after reading more I decided the Mystic was a better choice. For now I'm going to probably get the Motley Crew or Mystic, and hope for a V2 Miss Geico for the holidays,.... my B-Day is 12/30... Anyone suggest I just wait it out? I think the Blackjack 29 is more than I need... I'd be more into stock speeds of 35-40 and looking for additional runtime...

RE: Need help with dual output charger...
Most of my charging wll be 3s 2200mAh batts, @ 2.2A ... I have some 2s lipos for cars that could be charged faster, but I think 5A is good enough... not many AC/DC options that will do more than that and have multiple outputs and balancing.... AC is most important, I have a couple DC options already and one AC/DC charger. I live in a county without a stoplight, most of my runing/flying is at home or very near home. I would like DC if possible for camping and such, but AC is most impotant.... Thanks all for the input, still leaning toward the Onyx 245, I can work around the set charge rates.... any others I should look at? HobbyKing stuff is OK too... my 2200s are mostly Zippys...

Need help with dual output charger...
Hello all, getting ready for summer, going to be getting some batts soon and so will need more charging ability... I'm looking at AC/DC dual output chargers. Most of my charging is done at home, but I do like to be able to use it on 12V at the flying site, camping, etc.... I have few non-lipo batteries left , mostly AA's for radios and such... I do have a dynamite NiCd, NiMH, Lipo(no balancer) charger that I can use if the new one only does lipo, and do not need discharging or cycling necessarily. I am currently considering the Dynamite Duo lipo (AC only) and the Duratrax Onyx 245(AC/DC multi chemistry).... Any input would be great... I mainly require dual output, and balancing... in the approx $100-125 range... thanks folks

Dang! You beat me to it! I'm in the market for a new toy, probably an electric catamaran. I've been readng up alot, and looking at the Miss Geico, Mystic 29, and Motley Crew... now I'm even more stumped... good thing I've got another month or so of saving up first...LOL There's a video on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8obtZbHnAg8 Gotta look into the new Miss Geico, as that's the one I wanted, untill I read enough to want a Mystic, a MG sticker sheet, and some paint LOL Anyone think I should hold out, or just go ahead on the Mystic or Motley Crew......? Probably will only be running 4s, but headroom on the ESC couldn't hurt... I'll be watching this thread...

RE: Pro Boat Review - Mystic 29
Darin, You seem to be the best to ask this question. I am new to RC boats, I have a Vortex 46 airboat and love it so far(got it recently in trade for an airplane). I am hoping to get a fast electric boat, something that will handle mild chop and be in the 35-40 MPH range. I have been reading alot about the Miss Geico and Mystic, as well as the AQ Motley Crew... I will be running the boat for fun, no racing, and from what I've seen, any of these 3 are plenty fast stock. Can you recommend a prop that will give close to stock speeds but possibly give more runtime/less Amp draw...? I'm hoping to get a boat and a pair of lipos for it soon. Any bits that will be necessary other than batts/charger, marine grease, and a SAFE reovery method? I have life vests and tubes and a canoe.... LOL Or upgrades/spares I should get along with the boat, like a spare prop or flex shaft? Also, can you recommend a retailer in the NW that I can get parts/ S&B props from mail order? I am in rural North Idaho. Gan you give me some pros/cons of these 3 boats? I like the Geico looks, and the Mystic seems great too. Which would see more runtime on same batt/prop combo? I have considered getting the Mystic, having it painted an adding Geico graphics and some pearl/clear over the decals... any tips/suggestions on re-finishing these things? I like the Motley Crew looks, seems a good runner, just like the shape of the Mystic/MG hull a little better I think, and the double hatch cover looks good too, like the idea of not having to completely tape it up every time... the AQ is square so easy to do, just a pain and whaste of tape for every run... I've read lots of your posts on a few online sites, thanks for all you've done for the hobby! Maybe sometime I'll make it to one of the races and get to meet you! How can I find out when/where to go watch a race? Where is Grim from? Thanks again, any input to help m get started with my first FE would be great! And that goes for anyone that may be able to help me out here, the forums are my FLHS/Club as I'm miles from anywhere in a county without a stoplight...LOL Isaiah shadymoon1282 at yahoo dot com

I'm thinking the one with Tamiya part # 58450 as that would have been a later released kit... ? If I don't end up getting a CR before they're all gone I'm getting a Datsun TT-01ED kit and one of these with another body ... do any of the HPI bodies have LED light buckets? Or should I look at mainly Tamiya bodies for that... For the ED kit I will likely get an alum. prop. shaft and joints, as well as a motor mount and possibly other bits, any essentials I'm forgetting... I'm thinking of leaving the steering for later..I'd like to know more about the car's specific setup first... Also, would a JR ST126 MG servo do the trick, or could anyone recommend a good servo in the less than $50 range? Might get a Traxxas 125 oz. in. waterproof one, will go good with other blue bit's i'll add along the way... Thanks again for making this RCU great folks.

Hey all, anyone having servo gear problems, try loosening the servo saver up , and lubing it so it's saving the servo like it should... working good for us for quite a while now... just got RPM bumpers, A-arms, and a set of carriers, and the TRX wheelie bar, along with stiffer springs and some other bits... I'd like some 2.2 buggy rears I think, I like my proline gladiators but they're too big for the MERV... any wheel tire suggestions for dirt track type use... not something that'll wear out in 4-5 runs though... PM me if you need help with the servo saver... or e-mail me... I hope to get a video up on YouTube soon showing what I did... Thanks to all who make RCU so great... RE: Out of box upgrades - 1/16 E-Revo
If you break it, fix it... not too much needed... we went through 1 set of servo gears, 1 front carrier (direct impact into concrete wall at skatepark, at about 25mph), and a front body/bumper mount... have added recently, RPM bumpers, A-Arms, and a set of carriers... all but the bumpers are in spares bin... and the wheelie bar, but there's snow here, so haven't tried it out... also added black springs and 50W in rear, tan and 40W in front... just cause... Soon I hope to do a YouTube video on the servo gears, simple fix, no $, 5min. job... loosen the saver so it "saves the servo".... lubed it up and it's been fine PM me if you'd like more info... hope to put the vid up soon, neighbor just got a pair or Summits and have been stripping servo gears, so I'm hoping this helps the community ... i only found a couple references online to this fix, but did find it with some searching.... Pretty tough on 2s ... 3s is too much to do anything with anyways... so we run 2x 2s 2000mAh Venom packs, about $20 each, in parrallel, and get good runtimes... I could see 3s making a greater need for parts...LOL but it wasn't as fun to me, anywhere...(skatepark, BMX track, general bashing) sure it was fast... but too hard to controll in this 1/16 truck... 2S is plenty! Thanks to all for making RCU so great!

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Thanks for that, I will definately look around for better prices before I order. Also, from what I've been reading, I will not want to use the same car for grip racing and drifting. I am looking at 2 kits on Tower, and can't find much difference. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these 2? I can only find that one has steel dogbones and alum. 5mm ball link things... also, one is pictured with body mounts... I'd think they both had that though... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXYHY2&P=7 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXANHJ&P=7 Also, here's the Datsun I'm looking at.... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXANJT&P=7 Any input on this car would be great, I know this is the TT-01 thread, just asking. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXHJ1&P=7 I also found a yeah racing bearing set, for like $15, would that be OK to get, or do I want High Dollar bearings? Keep in mind, this car will probably get only a couple dozen or so runs a year... I will likely get the alum. prop shaft/joint set, and the black spur gear set, but what to do for pinion? I will be running brushed to start (not kit ESC), probably in the 17-19T range, and 27T on the racer if I get it too... For batteries, I have 2S Venom 4000 mAh lipos, they are shaped EXACTLY like a 6cell stick pack, so they work in many cars... so far I like them. I got these to fit in my old Stampede, it only takes the 6cells, not the 7 like the newer Traxxas trucks. For a steering servo, I'm not sure what I need, I'm guessing standard size, MG, probably more emphasis on speed than torque. I like Hitec servos, but I have read that Tamiya doesn't make a servo horn/saver for Hitec? Can you please post some decent servos in the $25-50 range? I have a JR ST126MG in my Pede, and it's good, but I don't see that same servo on Horizon anymore. Would this be OK? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVEP2&P=7 Thanks again for all who have made this site what it is! Isaiah

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Hello all, Thanks for the replies... I am actually looking at the TT-01ED kit on Tower, it's the Datsun z-car body... I like that the kit comes with the oil shocks, and most of what I will need. Tower lists 2xsets of rims with the kit, if that is how it comes I will likely get a set of grip tires for the other rims.. I hope to set the car up for drifting, and might try racing a time or two... If I do end up racing much, I will likely get a second car, like the R chassis on Tower, but I'll have to look closer, because there's 2 different ones...LOL I will likely use the car once in a while, at home... I live miles from the nearest pavement, and about 90 miles from the nearest carpet track, so racing will not be a regular occurence. I think they only do on-road mainlly in the winter too... Thank you all for your input. I will check out all the links you gave, and also be reading more online and watching vids on the Tube for another couple weeks probably before I order. Any input on the HPI Cup Racer? Isaiah

RE: Official Tamiya TT-01 Thread
Hey guys, totally new to on-road. Been doing 1/10 2wd for a while, even racing a little. Also, we have a Mini-Revo VXL for my son, what a kick in the pants that thing is. LOL Anyways, I'm finally going to get a road car. I will just be driving it a little, trying to drift some and maybe a race someday, but I live miles from the nearest pavement, and hours from any tracks... I mainly want a TC for making scale bodies, with lights etc... I am looking into getting the Tamiya TT-01E Drift Spec kit, the Datsun Z car. I will likey be using some brushed setups I have around, Reedy motors, or possibly others if I can ever find some more brushed motors available. If I do go BL it will be 2S, something like 17.5-10.5... On tower, they list bearing in drivetrain, and bushings in the hubs.. I want to have all the "bits and bobs" ready to build the kit, so I'm putting together a list of parts. What bearing will I need to make EVERY spot in the whole kit have the needed bearings? Also, I'm looking to get the alum. prop. shaft with the drive cup pieces, and probably the motor mount. The kit is listed as having the oil filled coilovers, so I think they'll be OK to start, but will I want differen't springs than the included kit bits? Also, will I want any steering upgrades, no need for bling, just function. I've read that there's a spot in the steering rack for bearings, or a need for adjustable toe links, I'm game for that. Also, what gears do I want? I'm thinking of getting spur and pinion upgrades to start, the black/grey spurs and a hardened pinion, or steel... Also, as I will be driving this car in both Grip and Drift "modes", I think I'll be wanting un-locked diffs, but I will want some resistance to just "diffing out"... can the gear diffs be filled with fluid as on a 1/8th buggy, or just grease? What's the thickest grease I can get safe for RC cars? The 240Z datsun kit also states that it's "short wheelbaase", something like 251mm? can anyone tell me more about that, or what the WB of a regular tt01 is? Or it the WB adjustable on this chassis? I have also looked into part # 51000 Hi-torque servo saver, should I get this or run a normal arm on the servo. I'm thinking a MG type servo? Possibly the 120oz./in. waterproof traxxas digital, or a hitec... any suggestions? How much torque is needed in a car like this. I have a JR ST126MG in my Pede, will that work. I won't need the 333oz./in. Hitec like my crawler has, in a TC will I? (the crawler probably doesn't need it either, just went spend happy one spring..LOL) Which pinion gear set to get? or should I just get one of the metric .6? pinions on Tower, the Robinson ones? I will be making an order around New Years, and I'm going to get a TT-01 or another car, but I live in a very rural spot and don't have a FLHS really, so I want to get all the stuff in one shot. I am looking at the tt-01 cars, the Datsun kit, or maybe a TT-01R E-chassis for racing, so I will have both setups without swaping back and forth...? Other than the TT-01 platform, I have wanted an HPI Cup Racer since I first saw them a couple years ago, they are now supposed to be getting discontinued, so I'm in a pinch. I'd like to get one before they're all gone, but I'm worried about not having parts available. Would you guys consider getting one? Anyone have a Cup Racer and can give me input? If I did get the Cup Racer, I'd get the Datsun Z, and the Toyota Levin Drift Version, and some parts... Just to make sure I had my bases covered.. and because that's all they have on Tower anymore, or anywhere else I've seen. The kit is down to $169 now, so they'll probably go fast, the Z-Car says limited quantities now... Thanks for any input, Happy holidays, Isaiah

RE: OFFICIAL MINI E-REVO THREAD!!!
Hey all, I have the MERV, we got one for my son when they first came out. Can anyone tell me what RPM parts should be on my list? Nothing is broken as of right now. The ESC/Motor were acting funny last time we went to use the truck though. We had used it out in the cold, there's a little snow too, just enough to make traction non-existent. The truck worked fine untill we turned it off. Later after a battery charge, we went to use it again, steering works but when you went to give it throttle, just stuttering back and forth, like the little cogging on takeoff, but that's all it would do... didn't mess with it too much because I didn't want to fry something. Later after we came home, I tried it inside, seemed to cog really bad, even when rolling already, but it was working again. I held the truck up, and ran the motor at varying throttles, then let it run for a couple minutes at between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle, so I could build a little heat in the motor, it's been sitting now for a whole day so I'm going to go try it out, charger just beeped!!! Wish me luck! Anyone have any ideas? Should I send it back, it's supposed to be waterproof... maybe it's not below-freezing proof...LOL Also, neighbor just got the 1/16 Summit VXL for his kid, and one for him too... I'd like to know if I can put the tires and wheels on the MERV, and if I do, what pinion gear I'd need to use... also, are they the same spur? anyone know? If I change out for the Mini-Summit rocker arms, will I need different shock springs? 40wt in frt. 50wt. in rear... Thanks guys, Merry Christmas

RE: Official Traxxas 1/16 Summit VXL
Hey all, I've got the MERV for my son, we got his when they first came out, still TQ2 radio, and there was no mini Summit yet. We love the little truck. I'm thinking of getting the Summit wheels and tires set, and the rockers, to give the MERV more of the Summit stance. We live in the mountains and the terrain is pretty rough. I am wondering, will we need different springs than the stock MERV ones, to go with the MiniSummit rockers? can someone help me out there? Also, with the bigger tires, I'll need to gear down the pinion I'm guessing, what would I need there? What's the stock M-Summit pinion spur? Anything else I'd need to give the MERV the stance of this little beast? We're probably keeping the body and wing for now, but we'll be needing new tires in spring. I have some RPM rims for my Stampede, they're tough, as are all RPM parts. Are there any that fit the MERV/M-summit? Glad to see that the next time we need suspension parts RPM has them covered. We needed parts shortly after we got the MERV, but all that was out was Traxxas stock parts. So far, we've replaced one pillowball/bearing carrier part, so have 3 left... a front bumper mount piece... a wing due to being scraped up (used as wheelie bar).. and servo gears (skate park fun). I hope with the big tires the servo is still up to it's task. MERV seems fine with the one blue TRX servo. I'll be checking back and reading the whole thread, as my neighbor just ordered 2x Mini-Summit VXL trucks.. He wanted something similar to my son's truck, and like the ground clearance and look better. They're like 99.9% the same rig, so we got a mini racing class going now!!! I'm thinking we're going to build a track, have like 20-40 acres between us all in the neighborhood here, plenty of good spots and access to a tractor with a hoe or 3 point tiller. and lots of good dirt .... should be fun. We'll probably run like 2wd 1/10 open class, and mini open class, hope to get some others interested too. I hope the Summit is as cool as this MERV has been, this thing is a blas, and a tank. Only problem is slight cogging from a start, and whenever we get it out in the cold or snow at all, it acts up.. usually not untill the next run, it'll be OK when we turn it off, bring it in, let it dry off, plug in a charged batt later and it just cogs and stutters and won't go, steering is fine... unplug batt, wait a few hrs or a day, and it's fine again... done it twice now, next time I'm going to send it to Traxxas I think... Sent in my 1/10 VXL and got it back fixed, no Deans plug any more though...LOL just using Traxxas for my surface rigs now, except the 2200 3s in my crawler, it's an airplane batt and all my planes are deans ... I may have to get another TRX 1/16, probably the Summit, since we have the MERV... Happy Holidays Isaiah Oh, and are the A-Arms different, revo to summit? RPM only lists revo arms, and I'm ordering some more Pede parts and MERV parts soon... my neighbor will likely need parts soon, will the MERV RPM bumpers work on the summin? Thanks again folks, for making RCU so great!

RE: The mini everyone has always wanted, losi 1/14th 8ight
Hey folks, thanks for making the hobby so great. I am looking into this for a 2nd mini, to compliment my son's MERV. Would this race well with the 1/16 VXLs, how about other minis this would class up with, or that would make a good mini class. I am looking to get some interest and get a small neighborhood track going. I would have so far, a 1/10 2wd OPEN class. and a mini open class. Can anyone with a MERV and a mini8 give some comparison, and maybe a pic of them together?

RE: Small Bi-plane
Hey all, just saw the Pitts on blastrc.com....... designed for the gear from the ultra micro planes, and can be built as 3 or 4 channels ... I'm going to get one....... either blue or the eagle.... nice looking kit with a Fuse and flat wings, looks to be worth a shot..... I may try and enlarge it into something in the 24" range too......... I like the beast, looks to fly well... I have only seen one fly in person and it was a little windy for micros that day..... hope to see more bipe in the micro line..... WWI style....... I love WWII and WWI planes

RE: Ultra-Micro 4-Site BNF
I am looking to get one of these, I have a su26xp and love it... people here have said that they don't like theirs, that you Must use rudder to fly it.... I watched a 12-14 yr old kid fly it indoors the other day and it looked great... I am hoping for something that I can toss up in my yard when it's not windy... and something to hone my skills and make me a better pilot... I'm not against using the left stick too.... I am more into pattern/precision/freestyle type aerobatics... will the 4 site do these as well as 3d? I love that the sukhoi is such a great practice plane... I'd like to work on a freestyle to music and this seems to be the ticket to ride... any input would be great, hope you all have happy landings... PS i also need something for in a gym, i'm not good enough yet for the Sukhoi, it's too fast.

RE: Parkzone Extra 300
mine flies great... liking it more with each chance I get to land it... it's teaching me to fly better..... and it's a tough bird. the wing is flatter on top... haven't switched mine upside down to try it... this thing really keeps some speed up, even dead stick... and it's got a sport plane wing loading, not 3d like... I have tamed down the elev. mechanically for better resolution, and so it won't snap so easily, and I have max throws on the rudder and ailerons... only one flight since making throw adjustments, but it seems better.......... Hope to hear from more PZ Extra pilots .... Happy Landings

RE: Official Parkzone Extra 300 thread
Hey all, been a while since I've been on RCU. Hope all are doing well. I definately have some snap out of a tight loop still, thinking of modding the tail so it will remain true under flight loads and such... but first I will play with elevator travel and just give it less on Low Rates so It can't snap... then give it full on Highs, .... I'm thinking about reducing throw mechanically so I will have greater resolution. Then hopefully on Highs it will still have enough for tumbles and spins etc... other than that, and the need for some speed on landing, this thing is a dream, I haven't tried to flip the wings, I'm just trying to learn to "fly my planes" all the way to the ground... My Gemini Bipe spoiled me, it can come in and slow so much, and plop from 6" onto a paper plate...LOL I'm not sure of the exact CG measurement, but I fly 2200 3s packs with about 3/8" or so sticking out behind where the velcro strap crosses... seems pretty good for how I fly, sport/pattern type stuff.... pretty much goes where you point it... almost no push needed for inverted flight, seems pretty good according to what i've read about setting up a pattern plane for cg and trims... could possible use a tiny bit more down thrust, seems to be level up to about 2/3-3/4 throttle, then climbs some above that... drops a little below 1/3 as to be expected... but she flies so good... I may try to mix a small ammt. of down with higher throttle... LG still holding after the 5min epoxy fix early on... still have yet to remove wheel pants... it will nose over in tall grass, or if it catches rocks too big...(I fly off of a gravel road alot lately) so far it hasn't ripped back out. No probs so far other than cracking the vertical stap loose, due to hangar rash and then another time due to a bad landing in unsteady winds.... thinking of trying an APC prop, any suggestions, I have some 11x5.5 and 12x6 in the parts bin, thinking 12x6 as I have seen another flyer use that on his 300 with good results, and the 11x5.5 are spares for the Gemini, the 12x6 seems to be too much torque... gotta learn to roll onto the throttle on takeoffs............. for the 1100KV motor above, I'd think an 11x5.5 or 11x7, or maybe a 12x6, from the specs listed... do you have any way to check amp draw and watts? I'd love to have a way to check my RPMs...... I haven't used any larger than 2200 batts, and all of mine are old ZIPPYs from before the blue ones or Flightmax, they're silver, 20-30c, and well used...... these were great batts....... I did try a 2200 SkyLipo I believe it was called, from HobbyPartz.com ??? it gave the plane more puch and speed, and pretty impressive climbout, I could go from level 1/2 throttle to vertical and then punch it and make big loops before and such, on the 30C 2200 I pulled up for an upline and gave it the juice, and she accelerated and climbed out to about 500-600 feet real quick compared to before, I think it would have kept on going as long as I kept the nose up... on my onl 20c packs, about 300 to 400 ft of vert and she's about done............ Good batts make a big diff........... I'll check back in soon, hope to have some pics or vid now that I will possibly have a camera operator available... nice flying vid to the previous poster, and to the guys down under... shame on you, alot of people would love to have those parts, airframes, etc... they'd even buy em for a small fee...at least in the burnt plane you could have saved the wing spar tube... LOL Really, great entertainment, loved both videos, and wish I had the $$$$ to play that hard.... it's hard for me to fly with reckless abandon... stryker and gws planes sometimes get abused..... which gets me thinking... LOL Great Stuff.......... Happy Landings
