RE: Ignition Engine Info?
If it is new in box the pamphlet that comes with the engine has a wiring diagram for setting it up. the transistor set up uses a Tip-42 with the center pin to the points, there is a resistor on that wire to cut down the amperage across the points making them last longer. It gets rid of the condenser. Look in the post on Ohlsson 60 help, post 6, I put a transistor diagram there, run it on three small nicads

RE: Quaker Flash diehedral measurement and stab setting
I know that the plans I have mention a Brown so maybe it won't be to heavy, mine came out at the minimum weight allowed per SAM rules with the Forster and ignition system. I put the receiver and servo's back in the cabin for RF reasons and flew it at the SAM champs in a couple of events. One other club member, Richard Beard, flew one with a Brown in that event. He normally had a Veco .19 in it.

Evan, those raffles were pretty good to me. I was stationed at Pt. Mugu '91-'94 and had a great time flying there. Dan a FS40 will fly around at idle but I wonder if the radio will be back in the tail for balance.

RE: Quaker Flash diehedral measurement and stab setting
Dan, what club do you fly with. I was in the C.I. Condors in the early nineties and was involved in a SAM club. I have a Q flash with a forster 29 ign. that flies well, the stab is at zero degrees and the wing is adjusted to give a good glide but didn't have to shim it much.

If you know some one at the airport maybe they can get a bit of 6061 aluminum for you. you can use a vise or clamp and wood blocks to bend it.

RE: Ohlsson .60 engine help
SSIGN- $24.00, coil- $30.00, runs on 2-3 nicads. If you by the components to make the electronic ignition you can save $10.00 but you have to solder the stuff together.

RE: Ohlsson .60 engine help
Yes the item with the green wire is the condenser but like otrcman says, the transistor makes life much easier. If the condenser fries so do the points and NAPA doesn't carry O&R points though they are available from vintage engine vendors. The transistor unit and coil are about 50 bucks from Larry D and will let the points last a long time plus three or four nicads will give plenty of juice for a hot spark.

RE: Quaker Flash
J, do your self a favor and add 1/16" thick vertical grain balsa webs to the spars out to the 7th or 8th rib, they will help keep the wing tips from slapping each other in a hard pull up or loop.

RE: Ohlsson .60 engine help
Simple ignition without transistor, but must use condenser to keep from burning points.

RE: Ohlsson .60 engine help
An electronic ignition diagram from SAM web site, This circuit is the circuit Bill Schmidt designed in the early 1980's. It is a time proven and reliable ignition system. Use TIP42, 2N-5195, or SK series (SK-3083, SK-3189, or SK-3961) transistors. Make sure you use the 10K ohm resistor at the spark plug on radio control ignition models or excessive radio interference will result. The limiting resistor from the base of the transistor to the points should be between 18 and 22 ohms, or the trigger current can be excessive causing burning of the points. (This electronic ignition reduces deterioration of the points greatly compared to the old points-condenser circuit.) Use a good Modelectric coil as some other coils don't work well in a transistor driven circuit. Use 16 gauge wire or bigger from the battery to the coil or excessive voltage drop will reduce spark effectiveness. You can use 3 nicads, 3 nickel metal hydroxides or 2 dry cell batteries for the battery source. Make sure you have between 3.0 and 4.0 volts at all times. An external boosting battery source can be used to give a hotter starting spark, but is usually only needed when using dry cells. Parallel the booster battery across the model battery using a plug and jack. The kill switch can be activated by timer or servo depending on the application.

RE: Ohlsson .60 engine help
From the picture it looks like you will need a spark plug, they are available from a few vendors. fuel is a 3:1 mix of gas and oil, the wiring diagram and accessories can be found at antiquemodeler.org which is the web site for the Society of Antique Modelers. Look around on the site you will find plenty of info on running the sparkers and maybe a design or two to hang that motor on.

RE: Turbulators, are they supposed to stick up from ribs or be even?
Flush with the rib top but the covering tightens down between the ribs and takes on the edges of the turbulators to give an angle change between them instead of a smooth contour. Most of the time they stick up a bit on mine because I don't sand the notches deep enough.

RE: Rearwin Speedster
I think the US 41 will be overkill for that plane, they originally flew with a .60 on a Dubro speed reducer. A good .120 4 stroke should fly it fine without the extra weight but if you must have a gasser try a 23-26cc first.

dusting off my new trade...Blitzer Beetle!
so hyped! after 100 inquireres about my losi NXT, sending pics, and dealing with lowballers local and non-local and refusing local hobby shop 15$ offer, i am now the 2nd proud owner of a Tamiya Blitzer Beetle. OG body still in plastic wrap, OG decals not applied, and racer still on the plastic rack he was cast it!!! i know its not a scorcher, but i remember looking at Tower Hobbies ads, Circa 1996 asking my parents to get me the 119.00 car. ill keep you guys posted

motor not sucking
i just traded the the serpent for a HPI savage. the savage is pretty sweet, all hoped up with the integrity parts and a roll cage. im having some trouble getting it started, i got it started for a second the other day for a couple of seconds. but its not wanting to suck any gas into the motor. when i take the fuel line off the pipe, and blow, to get gas in to the motor, it will fire up, and stall. i noticed that it was leaking from the carb. is this normal? what would cause the motor not to keep the gas flowing? the gas tank is also shakes, and might have a very small leak, like 2 days of sitting there will be gas on floor. would this stop the flow?

ok cool, thanks for the advice. i am going for the HPI, and i like that the parts availability is better instock at the shops around here. last time i was in there, the xxt-cr and the xx4 were the baddest things out here, its weird to see traxxas as a heavy hitter these days with the class 8 trophy trucks... ive been out of it for a while. haha

OFNA LD3 or HPI RS4 3
im looking to get a nitro car to do some drifting, and just to take time to have fun. im looking in to getting one of these cars. i could get either one for about 90$ so i need your guys advice... which would you rather have. im not looking to getting into racing or anything like that, i dont know enough people in Los Angeles that are in to this anyways. but for FUN, PARTS, and DURABILITY what is my best bet. the hpi has a .15 pullstart, and needs slight work, motor put back in spur gear replaced. Ofna has a .12 and is ready to run any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks in advanced steve
