RE: Why you wear a helmet... (Post Game Carnage Report)
On the street....no helmet for me thanks. Save your breath I've heard all the lectures, seen all the pictures, looked at all the statistics and it is a personal choice I make and the business of nobody except me and my family. On the dirt I always wear one.

RE: Potato Cannons
I've always had a spud gun or two laying around. Just your basic spud guns though...never anything like the pictures above. I've always used Right Guard aerosol deoderant as a propellant. It seems to be as good or better than anything else I've used.

RE: Are Rooster ESC's Waterproof?
I have a rooster in my SCX10 and its been completely submerged for up to 5 minutes at a time and it has never had a drop of water get inside the case. I say go for it.

RE: need some help
I have to agree with the previous post. I would go with an SCX10. It is very capable and can still be made to look extremely scale with a little time and effort. However, a note on the "sealed" bearings....you will still need to take the seals off the bearings and clean them out with some motor spray, then re-lube them. I've had mine in water and mud countless times and the water does still get into the bearings. I found this out the hard way by getting my truck wet, then the next time I went to run it one of the bearings was almost completely seized with rust. Another note...when you put your axles together on any truck that will see water you'll want to seal them up good with silicone. That will help keep water out so you'll have to strip your axles down less often to clean and grease. You can seal up the RX box on the scx10 pretty easily but I wouldn't reccomend putting your ESC in a box like that because it could overheat. I use a Novak Rooster crawler esc that says it is "splashproof" but I've had it completely submerged for several minutes at a time on numerous occasions and a drop of water has never gotten inside the case. As for waterproof steering servos, you can use a traxxas waterproof servo...but the plastic gears in them don't last very long if you are hard on it. I dip my servo's in plasti-coat, then put an O-ring behind the servo-horn to help keep water from getting in around the splines. It works pretty well...but after long periods of being submerged I still notice a little water in mine from time to time. Hope some of these ideas help.

RE: Are you scared of nitro engines?
Nitro is what I started with in this hobby. I have electric, nitro, and gasoline rc vehicles and I like them all for different reasons. I'm not scared of tuning nitro....nor am I scared to break stuff like a few others have mentioned. When I run my stuff, it breaks 90% of the time. That has nothing to do with my tuning abilities or the durability of whatever brand vehicle I'm running at the time. I am HARD on my stuff. I have a "monster jam" kind of mentality. I am a basher through and through and when I run I like to get flat crazy with my stuff. I don't buy it to pretty it up and set it on a shelf because I'm afraid to damage it. I run it till it dies, then replace or rebuild with stronger parts until it stops breaking. This hobby is a blast no matter whether you run electric or nitro because I can trash on my RC stuff the way I dream of being able to rip up 1:1 vehicles without going broke.

RE: water proof vxl
I don't think I would run mine in the rain or submerge it....but I have gotten my VXL wet numerous times. I'm always ripping around in the snow and bombing through puddles and stuff and havn't had a problem yet. I think unless you're gonna use it like a submarine you'll be okay.
ORIGINAL: barefootdaniel
ORIGINAL: MaddMatt Nothing against the AE truck, but it just doesn't sound to me like your not looking for the Hard core race machine. But there is always the Slash race class if you should decide to try it out later.[8D]
yeah i dont care about racing, but if the extra $30 will get me a better motor and esc then i might as well go for it...also the SC10 looks better [;)]
That depends on how much money you wanna spend on broken parts. I havn't seen an sc10 run yet (will tonight) but after looking at my friends sc10 while he was building it the other day I can tell you that its gonna be a great race machine...but if you bash it you're gonna spend most of your time and money fixing it. It looks really tune-able and has a great CG......but it isn't gonna take the beating that you can hand to a slash.

RE: What is the longest you ever went without sleeping?
I've made it 4 1/2 maybe 5 days before...stopped keeping track after awhile. 2 or 3 days of no sleep was common for me up until recently. I worked over 3 years of straight night shift. 11pm-7am. Then I'd get off work and watch my kid all day while my wife was at work. If I was lucky I'd get 3 or 4 hours after she got home. I love working nightshift, if you can train you're body to be happy with 4 or 5 hours of sleep every couple of days its like having everyday off. Work all night then do whatever you want during the day.

RE: POLL: how long has your titan 12t lasted
Mine lasted probably 10 runs...which is way longer than the titans in my emaxx ever lasted. So I figured I'd finally be nice and start cleaning my motors. I hosed it out with motor spray...re oiled the bushings. The next time I ran I think it had alot less power than before I cleaned it.....then it just died. I don't clean throw away motors anymore. Run em till they lose power then junk em, always keep an extra or two around...can usually find them on fleabay for around 15 bucks.

RE: Famous Wife Quotes and Comments
When my wife complains about my RC addiction and the amount of money it eats up I tell her "at least I'm not spending the money at the bar getting drunk every night" To which she replies, "getting drunk at the bar every night would probably be cheaper." She is probably right, don't think I've ever spent grand on one trip to the bar.

RE: One for the honey, two in the snow.......
I have to say...my wife has been VERY understanding of my hobby. She is interested in learning to drive my rc trucks so I've been taking her out once in awhile because she won't run them around my buddies. One thing I've noticed that is funny however...I can launch my stuff off a huge ramp, full throttle, completely out of control with no hope of ever landing somewhat straight. Smash into the ground breaking and bending things and thats all okay. But if she so much as bumps into a curb I find myself fighting back the urge to say something. lol She did give me a warning once after I'd been on an RC buying binge....like 5 grand in about 3 months. She said "if one more 500 dollar box shows up on the doorstep without me knowing about it, I'll be packing my stuff and leaving." LOL...she always gets over it.

RE: Boat retrieval
ORIGINAL: Dreamin Hemi I believe the biggest issue about the swimming for it depends on the environment. If I lived in Maui, where I can walk out for half a mile and only be in water up to my waist and see my toes like I was looking through air, than yes, I WOULD SWIM FOR IT[:D] On the other side, winter, or cold water conditions some may take a risk and swim for it only to end up getting too cold, unable to move and you know the rest.
I guess I just figured those were no brainers...but then again I must have figured wrong. I live in Montana where the lakes are covered with ice 5 months of the year...just thought it was common knowledge that you don't swim in water thats too cold.

RE: THE OFFICIAL SHOCKWAVE 36 THREAD
ORIGINAL: WakeBoardnBash Its a great boat. you Tune the boat out of the water. leaving it slightly rich upon launching. Very fun boat. I had my .32 modded, made things alot more fun. easy to tune, reliable, and plenty fast. you can keep using the same fuel, but that stuff just all out sucks. I recommend either Byrons or Tilted r/c fuel.
Cool...how do you tune it out of the water if you don't mind explaining? I use TRX fuel because the other stuff my LHS carries is Eliminator 20% crap that I've had no luck with and I'm not gonna order my nitro when I have a hobby shop less than a mile away. I have had great luck with the 33% trx fuel, but I've only ran it in traxxas and O.S. engines.

RE: THE OFFICIAL SHOCKWAVE 36 THREAD
Hey everyone. New guy with a question here. I currently have a supervee27 brushless, and a Prather Fun Cruiser on the way to me. My question is a friend of mine wants to trade my Revo 3.3 for his shockwave 36. I'm just wondering is this a good boat? I've never tried nitro boats before because I'm not very thrilled about the idea of retrieving my boat 20 times a run when it dies while I'm trying to get it tuned. I've never ran a nitro engine as big as the .32 before. Is it easy to tune and does it hold a tune once you've got it dialed in?? I've watched the vids on youtube and it looks like a fun boat, just want to make sure the .32 is gonna be reliable and not hard to tune. Also am I gonna need different fuel for this compared to my offroad trucks? I burn Traxxas 33% stuff right now. Thanks for you help.

RE: Boat retrieval
I usually use a fishing pole in the rare occasion that I'm not out in my 1:1 boat while I'm running my rc junk. But I have been known to swim after them on nice days too.....not sure why this is frowned upon. You can either swim or you can't.

RE: boat retrieval made simple
Thats a good idea. I usually have my 1:1 boat in the water so I can go out in open water away from people so retrieval isn't a big deal. But I have a tennis ball rigged onto a fishing pole for retrieval from shore.

RE: E-maxx 16.8 run times on particular batteries...question
I get about 10 minutes of runtime out of my 3000mah Promaxx batteries that cost 24 bucks at my LHS. I have a pair of maxamps 7 cell 4700mah batteries that get me close to 15 minutes of runtime at 150 bucks. I like my maxamp packs. But I was new to electric when I bought them and have since learned that you can get packs of the same quality for alot cheaper if you look around a little.
ORIGINAL: ozvena cuzican , you have just answered your own question. I am glad you found the issue. I too bought 4 quality packs but one cell in one pack wouldn't charge at all so I shipped it back for a replacement. These things just happen. BTW...you paid too much for 2 packs!!!! There are $30/6 cell packs (or even $24 for Trinity Reference 3600mAh packs at Tower). If capacity

RE: Super Tune Your Super Vee 27
ORIGINAL: ozvena I run about 7 minutes on 4000 and 4200 cells with no heat issues on CF42 prop and I used to use the stock one as well with no issues on 12 cells. With 14 cells heat generated should be more. There must be some issue with the packs. Since both got hot they are probably not a quality packs. Also I would make sure that there is no binding anywhere causing higher battery drain. You can run brushless motor on 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 throttle. It is a myth that you can't.
They are quality packs...they are maxamps 4700 7 cell packs and it is only one cell, in one pack that got that hot. I have had better luck with my 25 dollar each 6 cell Promaxx 3000mah packs than I had with my 150 dollar/pair maxamps packs. I recharged the maxamp pack to try reusing it since my LHS guy said he thought it would be okay after we re-soldered the connection and re shrink wrapped it but even running in my emaxx the same cell got very hot. I guess I'll see if they will send me a cell to replace the bad one. I would love to go lipo.....but damn man I'm just a working class fool with a wife and kid and house/car payments..all the usual stuff. I can't afford that kind of money for batteries I'm already tapped out just buying parts and stuff to keep my current fleet running. Man I'm really starting to wish I'd just bought a nitro boat.

RE: Super Tune Your Super Vee 27
I didn't run the boat the whole time at 1/2 throttle I did do a fair amount of full throttle runs. The 4700 packs are normally ran in my emaxx...I just had a what the heck I might as well try them in the boat moment. I won't do that again. I am running the stock prop until the one my LHS recommended I run comes in which should be any day now. I Already repaired the pack by re soldering the connection that melted and re shrink wrapped it. I charged it carefully at just 1 amp and it took a charge and discharged fine with normal runtime in my emaxx. I'll try charging it at 1c next time to see what happens. Also I never completely dump my packs. I always change them out when I notice a fair drop in performance. Why are brushless motors not supposed to be ran at part throttle??? I have friends with brushless onroad rc cars and offroad rc cars that get used at part throttle all the time with no problems. I'll check into some IB cells then if thats the hot ticket...anybody have a link to what they use for me?? I changed the connectors on the boat to TRX connectors because all my batteries already had TRX connectors on them and I don't really care for deans connectors. Thanks guys.

RE: Super Tune Your Super Vee 27
Man there is alot of good info in this thread, I've been reading for hours. I have a question though. I have only had my supervee for a couple of weeks now. I have a prop ordered although I'm not sure what it is...the guy at my LHS just said its what everyone is running. I have taken everything out of the Hull so I can re Epoxy all the joints because I noticed some of them coming apart after just a few runs. It seems they didn't do a very good job gluing at the factory anyway. I noticed the brass tube that the flex shaft spins in has a bend in it to angle up towards the motor coupler...well at the factory they put it together with the bend facing off to the side instead of up like it should be so I fixed that. I'll keep reading to pick up on most of your tuning tricks...but I have a question about batteries. For the most part I have used 6cell 3000mah packs and had no problems. They do get a little warmer than when I use them in my offroad cars/trucks but I understand this boat pulls alot of amps. My question is about running 14 cells. I ran my maxamps 7cell 4700 packs from my emaxx the other day and I noticed they got so hot I couldn't touch them for a few minutes after running. The next day I ran them again at only about half throttle...thinking maybe they would be a little cooler. When I went to take them out the second time I ran them one of the packs had gotten so hot that it melted the shrink wrap off the pack...and burned the shrink wrap off one of the cells also melting the solder off the battery bar. What did I do wrong to cause this. I know I have read far enough to see that alot of guys are running 14 cells. How do I do it without the heat problem???? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
