RE: Is a 5
what about your steering servo or rudder linkage?? If it is weak, it wont hold the rudder straight (servo) or if there is too much flex in the linkage the rudder will move by itself

RE: My First Nitro Cat Build
Built this boat a couple years ago from when the hull first appeared on ebay. pipe n header were a a bit of a struggle to fit in my boat because of the tight confines of the hull and small hatch, a side exhaust motor would be tonnes better :P. After I recommended making the hatch 1 inch larger all around you can now buy the hulls like this on ebay Do!H! I couldnt run a normal header without the pipe pointing up 45 degrees to avoid the radio box and I could only fit a 2.5 pipe down the side of the hull. So I cut the header in half and jointed it with couplers and a bit of aluminium pipe to get it all to fit. It does take a while to get up on pipe with it this long, but it hits hard once on it :). The TZ is a strong motor and its a light boat, fine for play! I will be experimenting with a different set up this summer, shortening the pipe n a few other things, will see how it goes

I have a TZ18 in a 32" cat, but mine weighs a bit over 2 kilo's complete! It pulls a 437 3 blader right to the redline, as well as a 440 2 blade., I dont know how fast (no gps) but I reckon its cracking 40mph. depending on weight I dont see why you couldnt get the TZ up there in speed, how much did your vegas weigh complete?? parts are the same as the Axial .28 n .32. Its a pretty good motor, while its apart I would replace the bearings as well with some from boca, the std bearings arent that great! Again same as the axial bearings.

RE: Is it Possible to convert my sc8 to a 2 or 3 speed tranny?
Ofna have a 2 speed set up available for some of the hyper 1/8 buggies, I have seen a vid or two on here. Would be much easier to adapter that than a big n bulky savage tranny. You will loose on track performance without the centre diff though? For bashing it will increase the top speed 4 sure!
ORIGINAL: lazyboy12300 I've just been racing yesterday, and it all went well. My new engine (Jammin 21) was plenty powerful enough, and I caught many people down the straight. The only minor thing was that I snapped the rear wing and wing mount. I fixed it temporarily with zip ties, but just wondering, has anyone else done this, or is it just my crappy driving/jumping?
I boiled mine to dye it black, and it has proven to be as tough as any other wings i have had, maybe that helped??

definitely go the duct tape, only need one layer with a tiny bit of overlap. makes a huge diference and weighs next to nothing! Just remember you will loose top speed over a "pizzaing" tyre combo as your tyres wont grow and change the gearing

RE: Suspension set up?
wider offset wheels and heavier springs will help, as will lowering the truck as much as possible. I run progressive rate springs +15mm wheels and 50wt oil and it rarelt rolls over! Lower profile tyres will also help, the tall side walls on std savage tyres roll over quite alot!

RE: A buddies disappointment - What $3000 does not get you
I think from reading all the posts that both sides have some good points. Overall I think though that the builder should really take some responsibility for some of the pure laziness in the build. At the end of the day this build represents his business, is he proud of that?? I wouldnt put my name on it thats for sure(and funnily enough I dont see a name on it either!). It is easy to hide behind saying that the build was discussed with the customer, but with an inexperienced customer who has sent you a boat to build because he cant/isnt confident to do it themselves, just what input, if any do they have in the builds completion or visualizing just what effects the recommendations will have on the end result? Min effort, max profit is written all over this boat.

RE: The most useful savage x upgrade?
The most useful and CHEAPEST savage X upgrade is 2 zip tyes, one around each bumper support to stop the top arm pins coming out in a big hit. After that it comes down to many choices and how you use your truck, and where you use it. Another pretty cheap upgrade is to double up on the Chassis plates, they are cheap on ebay, and having two on each side makes the chassis MUCH stronger and less susceptible to bending if you hit something SOLID :). I like a longer wheelbase personally, especially if you are running a powerful motor, but std TVP's are CHEAP! Good steering servo, Failsafe n offset wheels would be my next in line.

RE: the hyper st PRO thread!
ORIGINAL: nickers cycleops1966, Im going to order a p3 next week but i want the pull start version. you mentioned it was very tight at T.D.C. my original mach 28 (worst engine ever) was the same to the extent where the pull start would break went through 2 pullstarts. i never got it started. i ended up returning the motor in exchange for another and that started no problems. is the p3 that tight it would break pull starts all the time. i don't want a starter box. if this is the case i will not be purchasing a p3. I'm only a basher so i don't need that extra bit of grunt you would get from removing the pull start. cheers
Hey fella, couple tips with a new engine, heat it up with a hair dryer the first half dozen tanks of so, that will loosen everything up making it easier to start and will also minimize the wear and tear on your engine. Also loosen the glow plug a quarter/half a turn, this will lower the compression and also make it easier to start, just tighten it up when its going. If your confident, its also a good idea to go over the motor inside n out n seal it up, as people have said picco's can be a little finicky if there is an air leak, but if your not confident, you might be better off leaving it all together!! Oh another thing, with the pullstart, it might sound dumb, n it might sound like im being obvious :), but dont pull it too far! I have never had a motor start on the end of a pull on the rope, they always start right at the beginning! So short strokes are to go, not til the cord tops out. Another product i just tryed for my latest 2 new motors is Massive Mods MRO (miracle run in oil) Its pretty new stuff but basically it is a super high pressure oil originally used to keep metal to metal surfaces weighing many tonnes in printing presses from binding at incredibly tight tolerencesand high speed, Run in was super easy for me, and while I have only used it on two motors so far, they were super easy with a couple drops of this stuff in em! drop Mark a line at massivemods.com for more info (he is in sydney and also has some seriously good fuel too1). I know people will knock it, but dont knock it till you have tried it hey!

RE: the hyper st PRO thread!
ORIGINAL: supertib do not run pullstart motors in a Truggy....the OWB assemblies do not like the RPM of a Truggy.....very high change of the OWB falling apart.......... if your buying a Picco buy a starter box or dont buy a Picco......... the pullstart Picco is not as powerful as the Bumpstart engines...the pullstart motor is timed lower to be used in a MT.................. IMHO pullstarts and OWB's are a huge liability in an engines durability... they cause airleaks, drag, and usually end up rubbing out the conrod......
I agree with the majority of your points, but there is no reason why a non racing or even an occasional racing truggy owner shouldnt use an engine with a pullstart, or roto start. Sure the assembly adds complication, mass and could (could!) possibly add to the long term durability of the motor, but for most people who dont or only occasionally race there is nothing wrong with a pullstart motor. Sure they dont work for you with your worked to the max set ups, but that does not apply to everybody

RE: I Broke The Savage XL !!!!!
heavier oil wont fix this, I have blown MANY diffs in my savage over the last 4 years, firstly the standard 2 gear savage 21 diffs, then upgraded to 25 4 gear diffs, then 4 gear diffs with 3 racing alloy cases, the FLM cases with shims everywhere (of course engine power was also increasing during this time!)! The Bevel gear is just too small, and the teeth to fine on both the ring and the bevel for them not to strip after a few hard hits. Its impossible for me not to be on the gas sometimes while bashing, cant always get the truck feet first in time to let off before landing!

note in the above link, they do not tell you just how hard it is to get the Cen Diffs apart. They are put together with GREEN loctite which is STRONG stuff! They only easy way to get them apart is to heat them up in the oven or use a blow torch for a couple seconds to loosen the loctites hold. BE WARNED!
ORIGINAL: Medrivfast I would ask if there is a stronger one out. But, all that would happen is that the transfer to the weakest link would go somewhere else. RE: LPR rims and Badlands
Well I decided to have a crack at it myself. I fitted the badlands on the rims and sat the tyre bead on the INSIDE of the INNER rib on the rim and glued it there, I then glued at the point where the tyre meets the outside of the rim and dunnah all done! I also used HPI savage foams as the molded proline foams would not stretch over the LPR rims. The Rulux's have also been dyed black. Looks sick!
