I still am using the first made HS-55s in planes. Planes come & go. The 55s last. Had 1 bad one. a buzzer. 74 years.[X(]

I built a recoveryboat for a surface group. A.. V screen... in front of a powered 2" x 12" x 38" plank to be used in rough water retrieves. We removed the V & just pushed with the 12 " straight across, padded bow, in calmer water for the larger painted models.

RE: 56
I have built a 96" WW II PTB. Tried a 55 cc chainsaw engine with a clutch. Used but good. It turned out to be a REAL DOG. The engine could NOT be coupled EASILY to any available transmissions. Went with a Minn Kota 45 pound thrust trolling motor.......1 to 2 step up timing belt drive to get a good top speed. Novak Reversing Super Rooster ESC rated for 60 amps. Does handel connecting a large car battery to it with reversed terminals.. couple of times. 2....Prop shop ...England .....5 bladed props ...4.5" x 4.5" Added a synchronized engine exhaust sound system with a 120 watt dual channel amplifier & 8 Caddilac speakers. Pirece of cake & runs perfect.

RE: Good Chase Boat On the small side
I have seen excellent chase boats made from pointed 2 x 12 boards. Use a geared motor to swing a the largest Octura plastic props. Put a fixed rudder in the bow & a LARGE movable one in the stern. More stabile in wind & currents.

A submarine has the same pressure trying to get past the prop shaft as a surface boat. FACT. So a simple LIGTWEIGHT THINNED out grease will do perfectly. My OLD Nautalis has never leaked in more than 20 years. Same original batch of grease in it.

RE: I want to see scale craft!
You need to not OVERDO the scale parts. They can not be seen at all when the boat is on trhe water.............I built the BB in 1950 & RCd it with a 2 channel reed outfit. Looked & ran fantastic. Use a geared down motor with a prop as large in diameter as the rudder. A 6 volt motor is PLENTY in high winds with a big slow speed prop. Rich

Deciptive is another condition to consider. Geared turbines have 2 thrusts to deal with unfortunately. prop thrust below the COG. & the turbine gas thrust aboce the COG. tricky & unstabile in sharp turns at WOT.

RE: Best of the Chinese electric plane manufacturers
Love CMP, China Model Productions. Harbor Fright use to sell them. NO assembly problems. I did DIY jobs on them. RC gear was ok. I also flew several Guan Li PBYs. Also very good. Can crash from 10 to 15' straight into water with NO DAMAGE. [:D] Right wing is ALWAYS lighter than left wing. Need to add about a nickel & a penny to the end for it to float level. I used a piece of pointed Brass rod pushed into the wing & glued. OK All 7 PBYs had to have the bottom center seam resealed with TITEBOND II drizzled in the full length. Pour out any excess. Then they were a joy to fly.

OH NO Mr. Bill!! I thought all planes since about the C-130 had Lifting Body areas built in to assist in flying efficiency ? Flat bottoms add to lifting & flying efficiency ?

High winged 4 motors. Amount of downthrust ?
Doing a small electric GWS C-130 turbo prop. High wing. Props are 4.0" x 4.5" and run at 55 mph & 6 oz of thrust each. So We have about 24 oz. & 55 mph in a 17 to 20 oz. plane at WOT for takeoff. Do I need any down thrust ? Props are counter rotating.

amount of down thrust. Doing a GWS 4 motored transport.
I never put in any down thrust in my low powered foamies of GWS. Doing the GWS Cargo trans. Looks like a C-130 4 engined turbo prop with a very high wing. Counter rotating props. Geared motors with the GWS EP 4.0" x 4.5" props doing about 55 mph and 6.7 oz. of thrust on the ground. Total thrust about 24 oz. for a 17 to 20 oz plane. Suggestions ?

RE: Am I safe pushing a bit harder?
Eagel Did you REPLACE the bent shaft with a brand new straight one ? If no. You will waste power & speed. Until you put in a new shaft. You are still good for the 911 stretcher job by having the prop break up unexpectedly. Your choice. Pick the safer one. Rich

Kit planes can limit battery size sometimes. U nless you really want to butcher it, or use a motor prop calculator to see what will WORK on a computer screen first. Motor prop calculators are SOOO goood.

Brushed motors, 1 BIG brushed ESC & 1 big battery are GREAT in multi engined planes. Get Walt to tell you which motor types he used. There are several different voltages available. Also the prop & battery volts & mahr.

RE: Motor Stalling????
Motor growling is usually a bad timing problem in the ESC or the motor. Weak batteries simply cut down power & speed with no growling. The motor may have developed a few shorted turns if pused hard. Loose solder or squeezed on connector. battery / esc or motor. Rarely does the motor drive train get binding from crashes. check it out. If you have other cars. Start swaping ESCs & batteries to help find the problem

Thanks Bill. I have not been to a RC hobby shop in years. I do buy USA shops only on the web. So I no longer get to see those old dusty things with sun fading bars across them. It was a good part of modeling. I should have bought that kit . Good old glue & razor cut days with real blood on the stringers fitted into the notches that were too small or large. :) I never got a high from the glue. Only groggy.[&o]

They have all the problems I listed. Some worse than others. The woddies sit still anywhere on the balancer. They track VERY true. I am NOW convinced the December batches are all from the bottom of the parts bin. Crap. Simple. I ordered some Nylon Xoar props. They ARE SUPPOSED to be balanced at the factory. I need that feature. :) Rich I am much calmer now. :)

RE: Very well balanced wood or C F props.
I simply popped on all my old wood Zinger props from 6" to 9", on the same motor & mount that I had just ran all of my shakey plastics on. That 12 mm diameter motor & gearbox does not like plastic at all. BMatthews Your are absolutly right about all the casted in errors. Bent tips, twisted blade, non centered holes, uneven hub areas, uneven airfoils, crooked holes. Almost forgot. Very out of balance. I use a Topflight Magnetic balancer. The woodies all went on the balencer with no problems. Ran with no problems. Does a cool damp basement have anything to do with all the belly up plastic props ? I store all plastics on a vertical rod. My woodies are 20 + ? years old. Rich

Very well balanced wood or C F props.
I am running 50,000 rpms into a GWS IPS sized, 11.77 to 1 gearbox, to spin a 9 x 5" or 7" prop. Problem is the motor mount wood stick is 3/16" x 5/16" into foam. All 20 + plastic props GWS & APC with the centering ring in the back hole, shake like crazy. ALL my old zinger wood props had almost no vibration. Who makes props in the 6" x 3" size +-, that can do 4,,000 to 6,000 rpms & little vibration ? Rich
