RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
I would like to see pictures of what you did with the struts. I just ordered one of these and I have a DLE 30 for it, but after reading I think I am going to put the 55 on it, because I want to run smoke. Can anyone give me some feedback that has a DLE-30 and smoke? I want to do aerobatics with this plane and not struggle... Any feedback is appreciated. Sounds like the covering is crap.[&o]

Duke, Negative no pipe tunnel. My firewall has held just fine and I am running a DLE 30cc and I punish my plane when I fly it.

Can I see some pictures of your elevator horns?? I am having an issue with mine I think they are offset wrong.... I have the updated version just doing the build now. Have any of you heard of or had ant incidence issues with this plane like the PRC 260 had?? Here are some pictures of mine...

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
I prefer the Mens props for 3D, the Vess props are nice and work well, my choice for 3D is a Mens 23x8 and for IMAC I like the Mesjlik 23x8.

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
Yes it will, but a slimline pitts on a DA 50 is usually, power robbing and can make the mid-range burble never go away. At least that was my experience with them on a couple of different planes (TOC 30% YAK, TOC 30% 260, QQ YAK) I use nothing but the stock muffler on my DA 50s and it runs way better and the power is better. Just my 2 cnts. Conrad

Well your spinner won't match up to the cowl.....and I imagine the CG would be off. Why would you not use standoffs?

RE: Peakmodel Extra 260 25%
So how are these 260s holding up with the SPE 26cc? I am looking at this plane combo looks to be pretty good, any weak point after flying them for a whle? What is the difference between the SPE and the Peak 26cc engines? Have the fixed the ignition issues with the latest version? Thanks for any suggestions.

RE: 86" Progress Reports
Well I have put this plane in 3 times, broke motor box and landing gear all three times, this plane flies great but is a bit on the fragile side IMHO. Anyway LOVE THE PLANE best flying plane I have ever owned. Just wanted to let everyone know that BAD BRAD Graphics is doing a graphics kit now, just finished putting mine on. I have the big logos for the wings and sides that I have not applied yet but here are some pics of the current setup. This is the second fuse, that has been repaired once.... Brad's website is http://www.badbradgraphics.com he is a real good guy and will do custom stuff, and he has the best prices around. Keep it low..... Conrad

RE: 86" Progress Reports
On the aileron linkage, the angle is fine it is that way because of the large control arm on the servo, as it travels you will see that it does not bind and the angles are correct. I was impressed with this myself because someone thought it through in the design, I have had it look the other way on some other planes of mine and it does not seem to be as linear as the QQ. I have had no differential problems at all, this thing rolls like it is on a rail. Just my two cents though, Conrad

RE: 86" Progress Reports
I have tore the gear out of mine and I agree it is a little weak, I am in the process of building another 86 inch fuse and I am beefing the gear plate up a bit, I don't know how you can get to the bolts that hold the angle in but it sure would be nice to tighten these bolts, mine is missing one of the washers on the new fuse. Anyway the vertical formers on either side of the landing gear block is what broke on mine (dead stick tall grass broke motor off too) so I am adding some vertical pieces of wood along with some tri-stock at the bottom on both sides of the plate. If anyone knows a way to get to the bolts holding the angle in there please let me know how you do it. Late. Conrad

RE: Aviation Models/TOC 30% Extra 260 BUILD THREAD
Not too sure I have about 4 oz on the firewall to get it a little nose heavy, I started at around 6.5 but I haven't measured it since I added weight I just added weight until I felt it was right where I wanted it for flying IMAC. For 3D I would defintly remove the weight. Conrad

RE: Aviation Models/TOC 30% Extra 260 BUILD THREAD
I have been flying this plane a lot the last few weeks since I put my QQ YAK in, (it is almost fixed now), I must say again, this is one awesome flying plane, I have mine on the nose heavy side for flying IMAC, but it will still 3D OK. Anyway I got some more video yesterday and I will try and post it later on..... Thanks SD_Models for another great product! Conrad

I printed the DA template, and then I stand the plane in its tail and I fit the engine to the cowl, mine came out just about perect and I haven't noticed any thrust line issues.

RE: Aviation Models/TOC 30% Extra 260 BUILD THREAD
I have a build thread and a comparison on this thread I believe, they both fly very well, I would have to give the YAK top honors here as a 3D plane, as for IMAC the 260 is way better. http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/fg42/12419-sd-models-aviation-models-30-extra-260-build.html Conrad

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
Well said Gregman, I agree about the 2.4 stuff, I am an IT Manager with about 17 years of experience, and in the last 5-7 years I have had a lot to do with wireless stuff and if the plane technology is anything like the 2.4 stuff in the networking world, well let me just say that I wouldn't trust it in anything other than a .40 size trainer. I am like you Gregman I am in it to have fun not keep up with all the latest greatest stuff, which I do anyway, BUT I work long and hard for my money to support what I love and I am not willing to risk that over having the lastest thing or saving a few bucks, I have not had any issues with my Futaba PCM systems whatsoever, so why fix something that isn't broke. BUT I have been at the field where I had to share my channel and that is not fun, for this reason alone I would be willing to try the 2.4 stuff. Just my two cents.... Conrad

RE: YAK 54 TOC1
I have always ranged checked everything with my FM RX then I install my PCM, and range check again, this way you know for sure what you have going on, I flew mine with my FM a couple of times and it was not good, I always had these intermitent gliches while flying, it was fine on the ground at different RPM's but in the air things change. Just my two cents, I would hate to see someone lose a good plane over such a cheap item. CY

RE: 86" Progress Reports
Well I got the maiden flight done today it was a 15mph cross wing in my face and the engine was way too rich, I flew for about 5 minutes then landed and called it a day, I know this flight report sucks but it is all I got before I had to leave town. Anyway it was way nose heavy and needed several clicks of up trim, I balanced it at the house and it was tail heavy so I moved the batteries and just flew thinking it would be good, bad idea I was in a rush and should have checked it again, at least now I know I have plenty of adjustment with my batteries, they will most likely end up next to the gas tank right now they are in front of the tank. I didn't have time to make adjustments at the field so when I get back to town I will get some more flights in and post the results. Just flew around in circles so nothing to really tell, it flew very light that is for sure. Here are a few pics from the field... Later, Conrad

RE: 86" Progress Reports
I will hopefully have a maiden on mine next week, I have always used a digital servo on my throttle with no issues, but now I am thinking maybe not. Anyway when I tried an analog servo the centering was not good, and I stripped the gears on a 635HB twice....if I try it again I will use a metal gear servo. If anyone wants to see here is a link to my build thread over on the other site.....[;)] http://www.downonthedeckdiscussion.com/viewtopic.php?t=2231 Here are a few pics.....
