RE: Bob Nelitz 112
Anyone still around from this thread? Its funny how forgotten the Taylorcraft is compared to a Cub and to think the Taylorcraft has all the upgrades a Cub never had. Faster cruise speed, very aerobatic, side by side seating and all done with the same power plant. I sure want to build a 1/3 scale lightweight like the ones in the begginning of the forum, i just need some more info and or pics on the modifications. One would be different at any local flyin with that bird!

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
Neddy have you considered the rear exhaust DLE or better yet the Syssa? I got the Syssa inside the stock firewall and cowl with only shorter standoffs. Obviously you already have the DLE so that would be a costly change but that is why I went with the Syssa 30, it just fit and solved alot of problems.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
Flew the clipped wing today, much faster than her full wing counterpart! got some inverted with a considerable amount of down elevator to maintain level flight. Rolls were somewhat axial with the elevator input, slow flight was surprisingly stable as it will land at a crawl with a 7-8knot headwind. The syssa 30 is adequate and will fly most standard manuvers with ease! Take offs are in the 4' range with a steady headwind. All and all was a good 1st day, gonna go again tomarrow bang the sticks some more!

Actually she is ugly as a mud fence with the exception of the inlarged breasts. Hazel Sigafoose wasnt blessed with good looks either so thats was my pilot theme. Thanks for the comments! D

RE: TOC Laser
Did you use 1/16 sheeting on the wing panel? and how bout spars? Im using the stock kit lanier foam shucks but gonna eliminate the rear spars in lue of larger ailerons. then core out foam in between the ribs. thinking of using 1/4" hard balsa sticks for spars and put some carbon fibre strand top and bottom. I also have a good stock of 3/32 and 1/16 lightweight contest balsa i found from a retired rc'er.

RE: TOC Laser
For flying wires im thinking .078 wire or some good fishing leader. I think fishing leader is going to be the lightest but if i need the ballast i will use 2-56 rods.

How did your prototype balance with the DA/ DLE 55. Need to know so i can build a hatch in the bottom fuse between the stringers. Im using contest grade balsa on the tail group.

Just wanted to put in a good word for speedracerntrixie for sending me a cowl, canopy, wheelpantz, vertical stab faring and templates for turtle deck on the 1/3 laser build. He seems to be full of good info and is willing to share. Thanks, need more in the hobby like you. My build is close to starting, waiting on landing gear. Keep up the forum I might need something else!

I second that, I have had the same issues and results with covering lately. Better looking finish job with MK trim over UC applied with window cleaner. I put mine out in the sun [when available] and let it bake on a few hours.

RE: TOC Laser
Possible lead on foam, your local commercial contractor sales place that sells synthetic stucco, Dryvit, STO, Parex brands and plaster, sheetrock materials will have foam up to 3 or 4" thick sheets around $30.00 for a 2X4 bag. Normally its called EPS, It may not be the density you are looking for but its worth a try. Also any company that cuts foam shapes for stucco work will sell foam pretty cheap. Its very available here in coastal Alabama. Im just not set up to cut wings.

What kind of glue is used on the foam wing sheeting ? I want to stay light as possible. Planning on substitutng the kit stuff for contest balsa and elimenating the trailing edge spar and making ailerons bigger.

Thanks for the info! im a long ago customer of his hopefully he will come thru. I am in the process of rounding up all the parts for my Lanier 1/3 kit lightweight build. Fiberglass Specialties is pretty good quality but a little heavy, not as good as the Godfrey stuff.

Yes Im familiar with the 1/4 scale but i want to go bigger. I would do the Nelitz design but with my skills (experienced kit builder) i could not do his design justice, maybe if their was one near me i could get some good pics or an in depth build thread i would try.
