RE: Trickle charge/household timer?
I would never presume to know more about battery care then Red, but will offer my humble opinion anyway. I tried the 1 hour/day trickle routine several years back and ended up with unusable battery packs. Packs that were less than 2 yeas old lost their capacity after a couple of months of the 1 hour/day routine. At that point I purchased a peak charger and my routine now is; charge just before going to the field, after 4 or 5 flights, and upon returning home after the day. I have since had no more battery problems. With this experience, I would recommend that you get yourself a peak charger and forget about the 'timer' method. Later; D.w.

RE: 2 batteries?
ORIGINAL: robert1144 Sorry, yes, I know how to do that, but how would I connect the parallel -ly connected batteries? If they are both connected, how do you connect one battery to the motors?
Do you know how to solder? Do you have the correct tools; like cutting pliers, wire strippers, soldering iron, solder, heat shrink tubing, etc? If not, find someone who does. They will probably know how it's done. Later; D.W.

RE: 2 batteries?
ORIGINAL: robert1144  Hey, I am not at all smart about r/c stuff so don't expect any great questions. I have a small 7'' helicopter. If I hook up two batteries to it, will it make it so that the helicopter is twice as strong (it uses more power.), battery life lasts twice as long or will anything happen? Thanks!
If the heli will carry 2 battery packs, and if you connect them in parallel you will get more or less 2 times the flight time. However, you will loose performance because of the increased weight. If you connect 2 battery packs in series you will most likely destroy the electronics and/or motor. Most small heli's fly best with the manufacturer suggested battery pack. Later; D.W.

I will be glad to pay shipping to get them if you can't sell them to someone. I have the perfect place to install them, a 1972 vintage Dubro Shark heli that I flew with Kraft when it was new. I am getting it ready for a show and tell at an upcoming helicopter fly-in and it would be great to have the same vintage servo's installed! Later; D.W.

RE: Poisoned By The Internet
ORIGINAL: JohnW Dick, yes, shadowing from poor antenna placement, agree. But apparently it is more of a problem with JR equipment or users, because my Futaba 6014 doesn’t have all those dingle berries hanging off it and it works just fine. So those shouting “path diversity to me just seem like, well, zombies, blinding repeating a phrase, which is one thing zombies do.
Path diversity is important. That's why Spektrum/Jr had to add a way to connect more receivers to their equipment. One of the receiver antenna pairs is located on the main receiver itself. This makes it difficult to place it in an unshaded location in some installations. If you bury the main receiver in a shaded location, it then becomes necessary to add a third receiver to the mix so it can be better located. Futaba, on the other hand, lets you mount the receiver any place you like and then route the antennas to more desirable locations. It's nice to have the choice of adding as many receivers as are needed to get a solid signal, but if they used the same type of antenna arrangement that Futaba does, it wouldn't be necessary. The ability of the Spektrum receivers to be connected to a data device that reports the number of fades/dropouts is very nice, if you like gadgets, which I do. I am hopeful that Futaba will add this feature in the future. Is it necessary? Nope. Just like model match. It's nice, but not necessary. It would be nice if Futaba had it, but I've been flying since Mount Everest was a mole hill without it so will probably be able to survive. I also fly Spektrum and Xtreme and have not had any problems with any of them. It's a matter of feature choice (Ford/Chevy as has already been said). The "heat issue"? We had many, many 100 degree plus days here in central Texas this year. I didn't experience any trouble at all. It just makes sense that Futaba needs to change the components in their receivers to higher temp rated ones, but until it happens I will continue to fly with confidence. Later; D.W.

RE: TBM Shock Jet
ORIGINAL: Mr DJ My CD thinks there’s a problem with Futaba’s 2.4 receiver and the ECU. There’s a guy at that field had the same freakin’ problem; he placed some device between them – maybe on the throttle lead that solved the problem. He wasn’t there, so I will have to contact him later. I will ask the question in the Futaba 12Z forum.
Not saying it isn't the receiver, but I have at least 20 flights on mine with a Superbee and Futaba 2.4 receiver with no problems at all. Later; D.W.

About an hour later she called me back with the waiver number. With that I flew Friday evening. Only took 2 days to get it! Later; D.W.

RE: WHAT CHARGES YOUR BATTERY...
The Triton, when in the 6 volt lead acid mode, works fine for a 2 cell A-123. This probably goes for any well designed charger that uses cc/cv to charge lead acid. Have been using this method for quite a while now. Mine goes up to 7.4v in cc mode, the switches to cv and holds at 7.2 volts until the charge is complete. It only remains at 7.4 volts for a VERY short time. Even if it stayed at 7.4 volts it would not harm the pack. Later; D.W.

RE: TBM Shock Jet
Hello Mr DJ. One thing I would personally change is the location of your receiver antennas. It is not necessary to run them to the outside of the fuselage. Also, I feel it is better to have one on the left side of the fuselage and the other on the right. This gives a good path between the transmitter antenna and at least one of the receiver antennas regardless of which way the plane is flying. However, I may be a little overly sensitive to this so if you are getting good range checks with yours in all orientations then it is probably OK. Later; D.W.

RE: Turboprop basics
Thanks to EVERYONE for your input! 747drvr and digitech, have you noticed any added throttle lag while flying with turboprop power? Also, how far from the wing or other structures do the exhausts need to be? On the extra, they look to be about 2 or 3 inches above and at least 8 inches in front of the wing le.
