Nice Build. Very solid and straight-foward. If I was to build my own rc at this point, you would have to forgive the copyright protection clause. David Barclay

RE: Shockwave deck fasteners
Hello, No I only saw it on the web and on the Horzon Hobby magazine I periodically receive. I was impressed with what I saw so I bought it. Overall, I am happy with the boat but I can see room for improvement. If the hull was reinforced and the Zenoah engine tuned a bit, this boat could be a really good starter/intermediate boat. But, on the other hand, since I am new to gas boats, I don't want to get in over my head, I need experience with these boats, they are different fron the nitros and fast electrics I used to run. David.

RE: foam filler??
Thanks. I appreciate your input. I was hoping this foam would add some bouyancy to the boat but I also kinda hoped it would add some support to the bow in rough chop. I don't know if you have ever seen the inside of a 55 SS but from the front of the engine to the tip of the bow there is only empty space. I don't know why this forward half of the boat was left unsupported in any way. The hull is so thon in that area, you could hold a flashlight against the outside hull and see the light on the insight. I just wish I could reinforce it,it would give me some peace of mind. David.

RE: foam filler??
I appreciate your respnse, I thank that will be the way I will go. I was hoping by stuffing all this foam inside the bow it would add some structual integrity to a rc boat with questional hull strength. Any ideas on how I can improce that? Thanks, David.

foam filler??
Hello, I have a question. I have a Shockwave 55 SS and from the engine forwards it is basically a large empty void with the exception of a small block of styrofoam for flotation. I was wondering if I should remove the styrofoam and fill this void completely and solidly with expandable foam that comes in a spray can. Would this be benificial for this boat. Would it made it any more solid? What type of flotation characteristics should I expect? I am sorry if I am asking a question that has already been adressed in this forum, but I'm a nooby and I ask this question out of ignorance. David Barclay

Shockwave deck fasteners
Hello, I recently purchased a Shockwave 55 SS. I have started it but it has never seen water and is too big for fine tuning in the tub. I have read many posts about this boat, the majority seeming to condemn it. I hope I have better luck than the people who purchased this boat and immediately had something go wrong. This is my first gas boat and I am looking foward to test it out. My reason for this post is about how the engine access deck is fastened to the top of the boat. It fits in a slot up foward and the back is scewed down by 2 "canopy mounting nuts" located in the back corners. This design is unacceptable for a $1000 boat. Imagine having to start the engine, grap the deck and hold it in place, Find the canopy mounting screws and screw them down tight and hope they don't vibrate loose (I know they will) and then place the boat in the water and hope the motor doesn't stall during warm-up. Anybody have this problem? Any ideas on how to keep the nuts tied to the canopy? Anybody know of a type of fastener similar to a spring loaded toggle bolt that are used in ceilings? I would really appreciate any input on this inevitable problem. I would be p***** off if I lost a canopy due to this joke of a set up. Thank you, David Barclay

RE: AND THE BOAT PLUG OF THE MONTH GOES TO....
Hello and thank you for your response. Actually, I did read that string, but I had the impression that it was biased and everyone hated the Shockwave 55. After reading through all the posts, most people are highly set in their ways against this model. I wish I had done more research before spending over $1000 on this model. That said, I will only use this boat in calm freshwater and take the best of care of it and hope for the best. I think it is an attractive boat and starts always on the second pull, out of the water, so for only a few seconds, Thanks again for your feedback, David.

RE: The New Redcats
Thanks Eric, I'll keep that in mind. Are there any hop-up exhausts that don't need three springs to mount, I hear that they are a pain to install.

RE: The New Redcats
Hello Eric, I have a question that really doesn't have anything to do with the post, but considering that you know about Redcat, I have a simple question. I bought and installed a Redcat Tune Pipe with Joint (81082) for my Hurricane. Beside the difference in appearance, is this an upgrade or the same exhaust as stock? If you have any info, please respond. dabo12367

RE: Clutch Slice- Quick Question
Hey DiTi, I live in S.E. Mass. and I don't have any LHS close to me. There used to be a HobbyTown in the Hanover Mall but no more. That was about 15 miles away but it was worth the drive. Now I have to order all my parts, including fuel and plugs online. It sucks but there is nothing I can do about it.

RE: Hurricane Xp engine temperature
Hey Mozzy, If I can find that cooling head, I'll buy it. The link to ebay says it was sold but did have others. I'm not knocking you but 180F degrees does seem on the low side. Anyway, as I said, I'll do a web search and try to find one. dabo12367.

RE: Hurricane Xp engine temperature
Thanks Eric, I knew this was an expensive hobby when I bought the Xp and I'm glad to know that an engine replacement isn't needed because it lost compression. dabo12367

RE: Hurricane Xp engine temperature
Hey Mozzzy, Interesting info. But I have a question. Many people talk about how many gallons of fuel they have run through their engines but I have no idea how long a well tuned engine is designed to last. I'm aware that their are variables in this question, i.e. running temps, fuel used, driving habits, abuse etc.... What is your opinion on this and what happens when the compression is too low to support combustion. These engines are basically diesels where they are compression ignition (except during starting) instead of spark ignition. I know diesels have a compression ratio that starts at about 17:1 and can go up almost to 24:1 (depending on whether its a 2 or 4 stroke) So, anyway, our little nitro engines have a high comprresion ratio, how high I don't know but I'm sure it's well below what a diesels is because of the different fuel. When compression becomes an issue in our nitros, what do we do? fix or replace. Will a new sleeve work or do we need a new block? Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks. David.

RE: Hurricane Xp engine temperature
Thanks, That was useful information. An engine cooling head running under 180 degrees would have to have a compressor, condenser and lots of Freon. dabo12367

exhaust tuning springs
Greetings! I just purchased a Hurricane Xp. I bought a tuned exhaust for it, it looks like the factory one except it's black instead of chrome. While I was searching for upgrades for the exhaust I noticed that some (not mine) came with 3 small "tuning springs". Does anyone know what these are used for? dabo12367@aol.com

plow plugs and old fuel
I have a new Hurricane Xp that I really want to start but the fuel I have is almost 3 years old. It was kept in my basement in a cool dark place. The fuel is 20% SIG Champion Fuel. The bottle has no condensation inside and has not collapsed in on itself. Is it any good, and if not, what should I do with it? ALSO, does anyone know what temp. glow plug is ideal for the Infinity .27 engine?? Also, I am expecting 4 quarts of 20% nitro on monday-should I wait? As usual, any feedback would be appreciated. dabo12356@aol.com.
