RE: Refirb
I just had some cheapo bondo brand resin laying around - polyester - with pretty heavy glass cloth. so sand lightly then degloss with acetone, or just acetone before applying the next coat of resin? I hope this stuff is fuel proof - even if not - its on the bottom of the boat.

RE: Refirb
Tim, After scuffing this surface I plan to lay down one or two more coats of resin - not sure if I will squee gee it on or paint it on to fill in the glass weave then like you say a water based satin poly followed by my sliver of a keel and I will be ready to roll.

Refirb
So my cedar strip over foam wasnt holding up to ice and snow and gravel with just the varnish finish. I decided to strip er down and take the bottom down about 1/8" with ... a belt sander then a glas shelf with sandpaper glued to it and sliding the boat back and forth over that to get a super flat smooth bottom, then I laid down some kinda heavy glass cloth -I am thinking just the bottom sides and transom. I am trying to have it ready fro a meet This Friday with a couple of RCU airboaters - still some work to go. So Far.

RE: 3rd boat. flat deck 3-point hydro
looks good Tim - it's been a while since I have visited RC U - The re-re- rebuild looks good - I like that the sponsons and stern have a flat ride plate to ride on verses the kinda point on the last one - should be much more stable. Took mine out last weekend for a little rip - Added a larger air rudder and tweaked my motor sideways a little - It ran pretty good - fast to the point of air induced wheelies - ran through three tanks and only had to retrieve it once. Take it easy. boat looks good ! Dave

I was thinking the cable may be buckling also, but throttle control usually doesnt take much push or pull. And Like Altered said - I now see a hole closer to the carb - moving it to that hole would move that throttle more.

RE: Re - rebuild
I can't wait. I have some time off coming up after the 4th of July - hope to dial er in at the lake on the weekend before the 4th. Tim, I hear you on the water rudder - but I am not ready to give up on the air rudder yet- too many weeds near where I run and I like the slide...and to be able to beach it /grass running.not yet. you would be amazed at the difference in control from when we ran last. But still not quite where I want it. cant wait to see what you have in store. Take a look at your calander. See Ya Dave

RE: Re - rebuild
It looks a little cobbled together - but my theories are proving to be working. The skeg INSTANTLY cured the fish tail - so much so I am thinking about making one half the size - still allows grass and sand running as well as some ability to slide - could use a little more slidability, the winglets did not allow it to flip even coming into the wind - may have slowed it ever so slightly - not as much as the skeg... don't get me wrong it is still pretty fast - just MUCH more controlled. the only real problem I was having was prop torque or my skeg being a little crooked made me use a LOT of right rudder to keep it straight when pinned.

RE: Re - rebuild
Ok - Recently did some moifications and heve re branded it the 10000 lakes special. I was having a Lot of trouble with it fishtailing out of the hole and sliding/loose at speed so I added a skeg 1/4 tall at the back and about 6" long, attached with hot glue for easy removal. Also, I was having trouble on high speed power slide turns of the front corner catching wind and flipping so I added the little winglets...made out of... Tim will know. hot glued on and easy to shape in the field added a HONKIN aluminum rudder. got rid of the duals See next post for ride report

RE: Boat gluing ?
use the gap filler first.be sure your parts are stable and good fit, if that doesnt stick try 1-3 sec zap. and once completely stable fillet all the jonts with 2 part epoxy.

RE: Solar Airboatee needs help!
What size / how many solar panels are you using ?- how much power do those produce ? - perhaps you could incorporate the panels into your engine stand, Ya. I would definetly do that.

RE: Solar Airboatee needs help!
I dont think this has any dimensions supplied - Size wise I think You are going to have to work around your solar panels and make it as small as possible - but able to lay the pnels out flat.

RE: Solar Airboatee needs help!
I like it - I think with the low power output You will have lesss drag than a boat with a underwater prop and without a water rudder - even less drag. I am not familiar with electronics so I doudt I can help You there... When You say CD cover for a fan. Do You mean a Cooling Fan for a computer ? seems like that may work .Are you planning any rechargable batteries to store excess power? maybe not neccessary. Anyways - Good Luck I hope you win one for the AIRBOAT TEAM.

RE: Information on scratch building
Yes If it will run correctly inverted that is the way to go - some motors tend to flood easier upside down - probably more of a carb problem...Anyway - You got it. Now to decide if you want air rudder or water rudder ? advantage of air rudder - go anywhere - grass - sand- SNOW - and of course water. water rudders provide more steering control.

RE: Re - rebuild
Ok - here is the post run report - not good ! It was a little windy i noticed as i was idling out a HUGE gust flipped it - then there were the whitecaps... in all, flipped three times. Fortunately the wind was strong enough to blow it back to shore. Did some grass running and saw some decent speed once it breaks free it slides pretty good. As always - still fun !
