RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
The reason is that higher capacity mAh batteries have a higher capacity to provide current per unit time. Since your bigger battery is able to provide more current to the motor, it runs faster. However if you go with even higher batteries, if they can deliver more current than the motor requires, you'll not see any speed improvements.

Hi Anyone got MOABs on your truck. Did you change gearing for that. If so, what pinion/spur combination.? Stock tyre's perimeter is 32 Cm. Moab is 40 cm. 19 X 32 / 40 = 15. So, a 15T pinion. Am i calculating right?

Would do. I use a syringe to apply grease. Since there will be dirt mixed with grease after a run or so, I first give it a squirt of WD40 to loosen the grease and then reapply grease using pressure of syringe. This replaces the old dirty lubricant with fresh lubricant. I save opening up the rear part for lubrication even now and then

RE: Best bang for the buck 5s Lipo Charger
Hyperion EOS0610 series. EOS0606 would also work, but it'll charge at 50W max. You may out grow EOS0606 pretty soon.

Who moved my cheese .. err ... mAh
I have a fresh battery pack of IB4600. I am using Hyperion EOS0606i ac/dc charger. First charge was at 300mA, which "finished" at least 4 times before a full charge due to false peaks. I consider that normal. Post that, I have put the battery on cycling mode: 500mA charge rate and 1A discharge rate. The discharge rate varies from 590mA to ~800mA as the EOS0606i discharges at no more than 5W. The discharge cut off is set at 5.4 V (0.9 V per cell X 6 Cells) The charge - discharge data from the charger show the following values: Cycle 1: Charge: 4632mAh Discharge: 3812 Cycle 2: Charge: 4613 Discharge: 3847 Cycle 3: Charge: 4627 Discharge: 3805 Where is the rest of approx 800 mAh going? Is it getting converted to heat dissipated during charge. Should I understand that an IB4600 would essentially give me a capacity of ~3800 mAh only. Is it normal? If so, isn't the claim of 4600 mAh capacity fake, or is it calculated on some other basis which I am not aware of. Anyone with similar experience or could any one shed some light on it.

RE: New Hyperion, new 3000 mAh, .10C, 30 hours first charge?
Yeah, Right, For this 3000 mAh battery 1C = 3 Amps, But at 0.1C, you should be charging at 300mA instead of 100mA as your battery is 3000mAh. so that should complete in 10 hrs. Also, while cycling, discharge at 0.2C i.e. C/5 and for you, its at 600mA. Set discharge cutoff at 0.9 X Cell count. If its a 6 cell pack, set it to 5.4 volts. Keep in mind that 0606 discharges at no more than 5W. So, even if you set discharge current at 600mA, it might start discharging at 5xxmA and then go upto 600mA as voltage drops. I am currently "forming" my 4600 IB packs :-) right by my laptop. One more thing. On first charge, there can be false peak detections. If charge terminates, restart charging. Cycle atleast thrice. After this you can charge at 3A. It would be wise to have a slow charge - discharge cycle after every 10-12 cycles on your battery.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
For me, it cracked... but didn't break completely. Your options: :-) create a new wall. Find out / create a similar sized piece. Rough up side walls with a 1.5mm drill or some thing and then use 30 minute epoxy [I used m-seal] to fix the wall. The roughened sidewall will give more strength to the epoxy to hold on to the side walls. It seems you have also broken the servo body, which holds on to servo posts. It happenned in my case + also a bent stick pack :-(. I am happy I wasn't running a lipo at the time of crash. .

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Well, 31 T pinion ... will it fit. I doubt. How did you arrive at a figure of 31. Per calculations, 19T is the optimum setup. Go up or down couple of teeth for speed or torque. Keep watching your motor and esc temps if you go above 19T.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
First reason I shouldn't have upgraded to SW4600 :-( This is my First RC and I was enjoying it for a couple of months now and thought of upgrading it. So, SW4600 and deans and IB4600, Hyperion EOS0606i charger, etc. Ok. My new charger tells me that my older EP 3600 batterys are about to die. They take only 2200 now. - Anyways, I was all set with my new setup and still old "dead" battery as new ones are still under formation process. - Out you go, a wheelie, a topple over .. and bang into curb and front wheel hub carrier is broken. - I am out for next 15 days and that's the time it takes for parts to arrive :-( - Worst, I didn't find it on tower or omni. - Know any place I can find it and would they ship internationally? -

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
I haven't flown a plane yet and wanting to get into this. How many batteries do you carry for non stop flying. With non stop I mean, drain a battery set while flying... in the meanwhile charging others.. including approx 5-10 mins of checkup, battery replacement times. I am hoping to get atleast 2 hours of flight.. as others folks at my flying field have nitros and I have to keep up with them :-) - - I have been playing with electric RC cars, trucks and so I have lots of 6 cell NiMH packs .. about 4500 mAh each. Can they be used with Electristar. Would that require any prop changes?

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
ORIGINAL: 73 Sorry if I've been misleading. Should have declared that I'm new, and my "fast" may be " just normal" for most other guys. [sm=red_smile.gif] When we first purchased our E-firestorm, we had it drag-raced a Losi XXX-T on 23T motor at the parking lot, and they went on par. So my guess was the stock 15T motor's output is similar to some aftermarket 23T motor. Regarding the Tamiya RZ 23T, when I run it with the stock 19T pinion, the truck was wheel spinning the moment the throttle was eased on. It's only more driveable after dropping to smaller pinion gear, which I can't quite explain. What I felt most was the amazing torque of the Tamiya, compared to the stock motor, which could've made the truck felt really fast. I'm a newbie, correct me if I'm wrong.[sm=confused.gif]
Torque is for acceleration ... 23T has more torque than 15T So prabably a higher acceleration was confused with 'FAST' :-;

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
ORIGINAL: rsr427 GOING LIPO out of the Box? So, the HPI site says the E-Firestorm accepts most kinds of batteries, including "most Lipos". What exactly is involved with getting a new Firestorm out of the box running on Lipo batts? Connectors? New ESC? I'd like to make the purchase of car, batts and charger in one trip, and I have no idea what is required with Lipos. I'm thinking about just getting a smaller Lipo (2s?) and not a SuperFryer9000, or some batt on steroids. I have no NIMH batts now, so if the upgrade to Lipo is easy enough, I might as well do it now, runtime is my primary motivation (but I can't say no to the speed...). Thanks, Ryan
Stock ESC can work with LiPO batteries with an exception. By default, there is no cut off functionality available. You 'll need a LiPO cut off module like this [link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPGM8&P=7[/link] to protect your LiPOs from over discharging. This one is a 2 cell module. LiPOs won't guarantee longer run times as the that depends on your battery current carrying capacity (mAh). For longer run times, you should switch to brushless motor and esc set up as the efficiency of brushless motors is close to double of brushed motors. You'll 99% not need a cut off module with brushless set up as they have a cut off module built in for LiPOs. 1% : check technicals of the product you buy and confirm if LiPO cut off is available on the ESC. With a charger for LiPOs, you'll need balancing too. Some LiPO chargers come with balancers, some don't. In latter case, you'll need a separate balancer too. If you think you'll stick to only LiPOs, a decent LiPO only changer with balancer should come at about 60-70$. There are chargers which can charge NiCD, NiMH, LiPO, Li[XX] and also have balancers. Decent ones should cost about 125$ +. e.g. Hyperion eos0606i. [link]http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/?sid=1122512&pgid=chrg&scat=LIPO[/link]
