RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
G'Day Apalsson, If you have a look through the Airborne magazine you will see there is someone importing AW planes into OZ now. He may not have it in stock but he will certainly get whatever you want if he can. I spoke with him last week and he was having a shipment sent soon in which he could have special orders added. Seems like a very nice bloke. Might be a good idea to give him a call. Cheers Dale

50cc Radio and battery setup?
Hi guy's Just setting up a new yak and I'm getting confused with all the options for radio setup. I would like redundant packs and maybe switches or equal redundancy. I have an JR921 2.4 receiver for the plane, seems to me that I would need two regulators if I were to use the AR 9100 power safe, and am I right in saying that the batteries stay connected all the time and only a single switch is used to control power on/off? As the 921 has the facility for 2 packs can I plug them directly into the 921 (no switch between the battery and Rx) and use a soft switch? Cheers

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
I'll be interested to see what RPM you will get from the Zenoah 20 on the 16x6 prop. Still trying to decide whether the Saito FG-20 is going to have enough power!

RE: Clear coat
I have a can of cheap enamel that seems to be holding up so far. I think I would rather steer clear of the two pack for now as I think it make be a little more likely to crack on me. Is enamel over auto acrylic a bad combo?

RE: Saito FG-20
Well the guy that tuned my engine told me to run it on that, He is very well respected in Australia for his knowledge of gas engines he has been using only gas motors since anyone can remember from converted engines that belonged to anything you can name that has a petrol engine to high end model aircraft engines and it seems to be running very well. My mistake as well I'm running 95% octane not 98%

RE: Saito FG-20
As seen from my previous posts I haven't been the biggest fan of this engine, but I will have to eat my words now. After a lot of trouble with this engine it is now running very well. Another modeller at my field had a play with it, he reset all needles to manual specs and started again. Have put about an hour of flight time on it since with great results 8700RPM on a 16x6 APC prop and no sign of quitting apart from one dead stick from me flying so long I ran out of fuel. It played up for a little bit after this, I would say from an airlock in the carby just a little bit of ground running and back in business. I am running 98% octane fuel and 4.8V ignition pack. One other thing that was changed was the ignition switch it was changed to a heavy duty switch. I was about to throw it over the back fence in frustration but it seems to be playing the game now. I find the needles very very sensitive and the low end must only be moved about the width of the slot each time. (I was being far to heavy handed with it) I'm probably not telling you anything new but I am finally getting somewhere with it. The guy that tuned it up for me also has one and he had trouble with it not pumping fuel and it was found a small valve in the carb was stuck it is also running sweet now.

Clear coat
Hi Guys, just finishing off my CG ultimate. I painted my cowl and clear coated it with Solarfilm clear coat which was recommended to me for fuel proofing. I put a small drop of fuel on it and it didn't stand up to it. What do I do now? Cheers Dale

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
Hi guys, all your planes are looking great. I still haven't started my build, I am unsure if my engine choice is going to work. I have the Saito FG-20. It is flying my Funtana quite well not massive amounts of power for 3D type flying but I'm not into that. I am getting about 8700 RPM on a 16x6 APC prop anyone here with Zenoah experience know how that compares to a 20ei? I am only looking to do scale flying with this plane still need some authority to get me out of trouble if I need it. Thanks

I love your paint scheme Maximac. When I was there GAM were still using it. The last Shrike that was refurbished was UJL and it looked a treat. I worked for Steve for 3 years and had a great time there. Where did you get you kit from for the Palmer plan. There is a guy in OZ that cuts the kit for about $310.00. don't know what it's like

SPE 26, whats the story?
Hi guys, I'm looking at buying a SPE 26 for the Hangar 9 Taylor craft. seems we need some weight up front and I don't really need a powerhouse either. Is it a reliable motor? Also how can you attach a spinner to this motor, I can't seem to get any nice photos of one to get a good look at it. Any other things I should know about this motor please let me know. Cheers Dale

Good to see you back at it Jetfixr. Maxiemac where did you get the old commander kit from? I guess it's out of production now. Many moons I used to fly for GAM and flew UJV. Where did you get your kit and retracts from? Good to see interest in the commander.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
I agree with the figures you gave on the FG-20. I actually already have one and I am getting about 8400 RPM on a 16 x 6 APC prop. What I was wondering was, what RPM would you get from the Zenoah 20 on a 16 x 6. Just trying to get a comparison to see if the FG-20 would be suitable.
