RE: Club FOX!
well, i have two motors ready to test run now both ABC types. both are the earlier versions and that may be a problem as they tended to run hot right out of the box but, i am gonna give them a try. i am thinking that 12x10 is abit steep and gonna start out with a 12x8. i know for sure that they will spin a 14x6 as i have done that with a 74 with no problem at all. also, i have installed a perry carb because i know for sure it will work well. gotta get my engine test stand fixed up as it is in pretty sad shape right now. i hope to get this all going early this week. my plan is maximum torque at relativly low RPM thus the high pitch propeller.

RE: Club FOX!
time for a new fox engine experiment. i am going to change motors on my pattern plane to a fox 74. i will have to turn the cylinder to rear exhaust and use a tuned pipe on it as that is the way the plane is set up. i am trying to deciede what engine to use, the ABC or the ringed version. also, i am decieding what prop to tune it for. i am thinking to go with a 12X10 . any suggestions? this outta be interesting.

RE: Saito Price Increase?
well, if one was about to spend the money right now for a brand new engine, there are still authorized dealers selling brand new saitos on ebay for actually less than the old price that horizon hobby was selling them for. but i will bet that when they are gone, the price will go up there as well.

RE: snap ring failure,,,,,,,,
well, after installing a nw engine overnight and this morning, all went well on the few flights i got with it. i double checked the snap ring to be sure it was seated and in the right position. ran it plenty rich, it flew fast and no problems. maybe i just had a couple bad ones and some bad luck, time will tell.

snap ring failure,,,,,,,,
i have had some trouble with the wristpin snapring failing on a rear exhaust tuned pipe engine with only the rear snapring failing. it of course ruined the piston and sleeve. its an ABC engine. its happened twice now with one end of the ring breaking off and doing the damage. should the ring be placed in a certain position in the groove? maybe i should try and find a snap ring with no holes for removal. the picture is of the ruined one and one that is new. any suggestions? thanks

RE: Club FOX!
well, i removed the motor and it did just what the first one did, broke the rear snap ring holding the piston pin in and that ruined the piston and sleeve. this seems as if it is not going to be durable enough for the engine. there must be a snap ring somewhere that would not do this. what happened is that one of the tiny holes for removing and installing the snap ring broke off. what i would like to find is a snap ring that wouldnt have those holes for removal and once it is installed it wouldnt be removable. i just looked at the fisrt one that did this and it too only broke the rear snap ring, the front one must be kept cool enough not to distort and break as it is in line with the intake port. this rear one is inline with the exhaust as i have turned the cylinder back for rear exhaust. i wonder if i can modify a snap ring and install it without any holes for the tweezersto squeeze it for removal? any suggestions?

RE: Club FOX!
i know what you mean and it was way hotter outside when i last ran it. today was nice and cool. i richened it up right away but maybe not quick enough. i did the hold up the nose to be sure it held the riched mixture as well i kinda think that something is broke, i wont know till i get it off and dissamble it. i started it slow and slowly ran it up in speed. something wasnt right from the get go. very dissapointing for sure but being a fox man i wont let it get me down for long. i even reajusted the carb some to make sure it was rich for sure. i really think that what broke broke on this run, not the last one before putting it up. i am wondering if i have it propped right. i cannot remember what the tach readings were when i set this whole thing up. but i think it maxed out best with the 11X8 prop. dammit, i am gonna be thinking about this now till i get it figured out,,,,,,[>:]

RE: Club FOX!
burnt up another one.[:o] yep, this time i couldnt figure it out for sure. this was a fox 60 ABC tuned pipe special.[8D] it is on my old pattern plane with the exhaust turned to the rear. i am running an 11X8 prop and using wildcat promix 25% fuel an enya #5 glow plug and have tuned it on an egine stand getting the header lenght just right for maximum RPM [;)]. the combination worked very well on the first engine but it failed with a snap ring breaking on the piston rod retainer[:o], that scored the h&(( out of the cylinder wall. i put a second brand new motor on the plane and flew it a few times with no problems unless i tried to use a lesser nitro fuel, then it would dead stick but with the 25% fuel it worked great. i let it sit for about 2 months and got it out today and after the first run, something has happened and it is fried. i am not sure if it got hot, or has broken something. i am thinking about trying a 74 on it this next time. anyone ever use a fox 74 either ABC or ringed type with a tuned pipe? comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

well, i havent seen a fox hawk 60 blue head, the only blue head i have seen fox make was the twin plug one. but i have heard that fox was experimenting with anodizing at points in time and could have made blue head anything or even other colors. here are 2 pics of the types i have. the red one was the hawk and the blue one is a 60 twin plug.

RE: How to compare different glow plug fabricates.
wow, thats alot of information! i was in the test mode a couple years ago and what i did was had a perfectly tuned and running engine on a test stand. i had collected many many different brands and ranges of glow plugs and would take each one out and try it without changing anything on the engine and see what the results were. sure did waste alot of plugs. but, i did find out what worked best for THAT engine. turned out all it needed was the one i had started with. duh. [8|] i concluded that each engine (2 stroke) can be different in plug that works best. i have found that 4 strokes seem to always like the OS F plugs.

well, i wouldnt say rare but i cannot seem to find one brand new in any kind of box. they are no powerhouse but mine have always ran fine. they sure are messy to use with the front bushing leaking. the one i am running is pretty much black with burnt castor. i take it off once a year to clean it up real well. i havent seen one oon epay for awhile. go back a page on this thread and clik on the link to flitelinesolutions and then, clik on the user manuals and then on the falcon 60 and you can download a copy of the owners manual.

RE: Club FOX!
i think it is a good looking engine as well, my favorite for sure. i havent been buying anymore of them as i think enough is enough. i customized the macs header to fit, and use a 8.5cc tuned pipe as the factory header and pipe are very heavy. i am using a enya #5 glow plug and using wildcat 25% pro mix fuel. that fuel is pretty close to being like missle mist. i could add a bit of caster to it but i havent had any problems not doing so. the prop is a old top flite speed prop 10X9. i am getting 14500 on the ground and i am sure another 1000 in the air.

RE: perry carb for FOXES
one other good one i have done, i put a perry carb on a fox quickee race motor and had it mounted on a goldberg skylark. now all i have read and was advised was that that motor would never run well and even if it would run it wouldnt be right for that plane. well, i got it tuned just right as i flew it for many flights and had it set up with a tuned pipe as well. it flew very fst, idled very nice and only deadsticked once while i was getting the whole thing set up. i did get frustrated at first and after a call to conley motors who is the maker of the perry carbs, i found out just what i was doing wrong with the setting of that carb.

RE: Fox Engines
that is a 74 ABC engine. if it is an earlier model, they had a tendency to run hot. i think they discontinued the 74 ABC due to that problem. i cured mine by changing the head button to a new style which i had modified to lower the compression a bit. excellent running engine for me anyways but i have not ever had a fox i couldnt get to run very well.

how do these motors compare? i am wanting to get a Great Planes® Seawind® Seaplane EP ARF. it suggests using the 28-30-950 out-runner brushless rimfire motor. i have a AXI 22-12-26 already and am wondering how it will compare and fly the plane. does anyone have any idea? any help is appreciated.
