RE: Sheeting done with Titebond & Heat
I used this method once to sheet foam cores. I put the Titebond on the sheets and let it dry then ironed the sheets down to the foam cores. As Kurt pointed out, warping did occur. The warps came out when I ironed the sheets down and it looked good. However, after a month of flying and being in the Oklahoma summer sun the sheeting started to pull from the cores. I could iron them down again but they would not stay. I tried this method after reading about it in one of the model mags. I never tried it again. I had new cores made and used Southern's Sorghum (Dave Brown) to sheet the new cores. Good luck if you try this. Watch out for the warping. Dan

No kits being produced anymore? Really? I am finishing up an AMR Big Stick 50 Low Wing. Plan to start an AMR 1/3 scale Cut this fall. Have a Balsa USA Fokker D8 waiting on the shelf. Plan to order the Balsa USA Ercoupe this winter. Dan

RE: Hyperion Servos, Anyone use them?
I have two dozen of the DS20-UMD servos. I have NOT yet used them. I am in the process of installation in an Aeroworks Bravata and an AMR giant low wing stick 50. I won't be flying until the weather gets back under 100 however. I have run all of them on my Hitec programmer in Auto Test mode for approximately 20-25 minutes each and none have exhibited any problems. They exhibit no slop - as you would expect. I was going to pull the top from one of them and check the internals but decided not to since they appear to be fine so far. I also picked up the interface cable and have played with the programming and that works fine. Software download for the programming was a snap. Wish I could give you some feedback on actual use but not yet. I have only heard/read that the heli guys seem to like them but I do not know anyone personally who uses them in helis. Wish I could be more help. Dan

RE: Help! Polycrylic Disaster
Been there and done that a number of years ago when I deided to use water base Poly-u. Here is what I did. Get yourself some paint stripper with MEK (as eddieC states) but get the kind that is water clean up. Get some of those green scrubber pads and a bunch of rags. I got a bundle of the white looks-like-towels from Sams. Bucket of warm water. Old paint or chipping brush. Dab on some of the remover and spread it around some but not too thin. It will bubble the surface some. Dip a scrubber in the water and lightly rub (scrub) the area. KEEP THE SCRUBBER CLEAN. Pat (do NOT rub) with one of the rags/towles. Repeat as necessary. Take your time and you can get the old stuff off. I did NOT harm my covering (Super Coverite). I let the entire airplane dry for two days and sort of helped it along with some heat from a heat gun. When all is done. LIGHTLY wipe everything with denatured alcohol. Before you apply the next finish use a tack rag. Now, it is MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that water based Poly-U can be successful. I use it all the time. But, I use Varethane Diamond Floor Finish water base. I use it to glass and fuel proof and seal Solartax (my covering of choice now). Downside might be it is not cheap. Last time I bought some (2007 or 2008) it was $42.00 a gallon at Lowe's. Nine years ago I built a tote to carry two jugs of glow fuel from lite ply. Stained and finished with the water base Poly-U and the finish is still holding up and has most of it's original gloss. I have successfully used it over painted Solartex and sealed colored Solartex running both glow fuel (10 and 15%) and of course gas. My PERSONAL experience here. Good luck with your "project". One more thing and don't ask! DO NOT get any of the remover on windshields, windows, acetate and/or the like. Results NOT good. Dan

RE: A123 stops charging at 84%
I use a "balance buddy" from NoBS Batteries. The solution from RMH will work also. Since you are using the CellPro I would suggest you follow his lead on this. The key is to charge each cell individually - however you choose to do it. Dan

RE: A123 stops charging at 84%
The cell voltages after a balance charge should be equal (that's why it is called a "balance" charge). Cell 1 appears to be the culprit here. I have been using A123 batteries for two years and have only had this problem once. I corrected it by charging each cell separately which took care of the unbalanced situation. Here is something from Steve Anthony at NoBS Batteries: Several hundredths of a volt either way is not an issue.. a few tenths of a volt is a problem. My rule of thumb has been if the cells are at more than a 10th of a volt separation, re-equalize or start a balance charge. The variation creeps in over time due to the A123's unique molecular 'shag carpet' lattice of the plate material. Every cell will have small differences in plate area right off the production line which gives rise to a slightly different rate of charge absorption and rate of discharge so small voltage differences between cells are routine. Letting them go unattended (not checking and balancing or equalizing routinely) can lead to trouble, but finding the cells in your pack not perfectly balanced at all times does NOT mean you have a problem From my experience plus the info on Steve's site I do not think you have a bad cell - my opinion. Good luck. Dan

RE: RX LiFe's left connected is OK???
I have been flying for two years running dual A123 packs for my receiver. I use 3 wire HD switches. Since I charge both packs with a balance charger thru the switch ports AND the balance charger uses 3 wires it is imperative that I clip the white/orange (signal) wire that goes to the Rx only. If you are only charging with a 2 wire charger thru the switchport then you do not have to clip the white/orange (signal) wire to the Rx or the Rx battery(s). Thr third (white/orange) signal wire was used to allow hookup of the Tx to the Rx without transmitting on a frequency when setting up servos and linkages. It is known as Direct Servo Control. Some of the newer radios can perform this function without hooking a DSC cable to the Rx. I wired my own packs using a JR/Futaba 3 wire servo lead for the "power leads" which allows me to charge that way. I have never had any problem or issue with my A123 packs, the wiring or charging via the switchport. If you connected your battery direct to the power switch I can see no reason to disconnect anything. Just remember to turn off the switch!! Dan

Dave: I haven't used a test stand in years but when I did I hooked up a servo and old Rx and ran it from a radio. Worked really well when I used it. Sorry, it has been so long I don't have a picture but I remember the servo just fit in a piece of aluminum "U" channel I got at Lowe's. Dan

RE: Alpha 60 prop
I have run numerious Fox .74 engines and always used a 13x6 two blace (per Charlie's advice a number of years ago) and also had very good luck running a 12x6 three blade. I suspect that your "flatter" pitch is not helping you. From MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, if you want to run a three blade then go up to the 12x6. Dan

Laird SS: Thanks for the tip on the part number. Sadly, my LHS closed his doors last year after 14 years. All I have locally is a Hobbytown. I will check there anyhow - I do pick up glue and the odd bit of wood from them and he stocks Xoar props for gassers to I can sometimes get the size I need. Dan
