RE: Recommended trainer, Hobbico?
I would recommend the park version for a beginner. The larger plane is more stable and handles the wind better than a micro. It is also more visable due to its larer size. These are things that are important to a beginner.

Sounds like you should fly the second engine and use the first engine for parts.

RE: OS Max 60 FP Not Running
I've bought some very nice engines on Ebay over the years. I did get cheated on one though. The guy showed photos of a complete engine and claimed it ran like new. When the engine showed up the carb and muffler were missing and the engine was just a piece of junk. I didn't have Paypal back in those days so there was not much I could do about it.

On my Hell on Rails I used the OS remote needle valve kit and mounted the needle valve on the fuselage rail behind the engine.

RE: Recommended trainer, Hobbico?
I think Leo L hit the nail right on the head. Either of those planes are excellent choices. I would also suggest that you make sure that you get the newer brushless motor version. There are still some of the older brushed motor versions floating around on Ebay and the internet. The brushed version is not as good.

RE: OS Max 60 FP Not Running
I believe that the FP engine has an o-ring between the carb and engine case. If the o-ring is cracked or broken it will suck air under the carb and run too lean even with a rich carb setting. That could also cause the engine to overheat. While you are at it, you should also check the tightness of the head bolts and bolts that attach the backplate to the engine case. That could also cause it to suck air and run lean.

RE: Help trying to get back into RC planes - Parkzone any good?
The Parkzone T28 is not a trainer, but it is not a high skill level plane and is much easier to fly than the Mustang. If you have previous experience flying, it might be something that you could handle. It has warbird looks but it is not a handful to fly. http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=PKZ4400

This is the look that Nate is going for. He is getting custom graphics made for the dice and other trim. I don't know what he is going to do about pinstripes. The Pitts style muffler just showed up from Bisson, but the graphics weren't done as of when I talked to him on Sunday.

RE: Gee Bee Racer
The cowl is being painted this weekend. Nate is still waiting for the Pitts style muffler on order from Bisson. He mounted the engine on his Dazzler and is using that plane to break in the engine. He didn't want to maiden the Gee Bee with a balky engine.

Gee Bee Racer
I thought some of you would like to see a couple picures of the Gee Bee Racer that my friend is scratch building. It is patterned from plans from a u-line kit from the 1960's and updated for RC. It has a 42" wingspan and will be powered by an OS 50. The cowl is made from a plastic bowl purchased at Walmart. It should be ready for its maiden flight in a few weeks when the weather here clears up and the flying field dries out. I will try to post more pictures of it when it is finished.

RE: Let's start a GWS line.
I just bought a Slow Stick last week. I'm going to set it up with a brushless motor. I also have a Pico J3 Cub and two Pico Tigermoths. Its a shame that GWS isn't going to be in business any longer. I may pick up another Slow Stick and maybe another Tigermoth while they are still available. I always wanted to build a GWS Beaver and also a Pico Slow Stick for indoors flying. I wonder how much longer they will be available.

RE: Tx and Rx compatability for a newbie
That is the great thing about it. As more people make the switch to 2.4 the less likely anyone on 72mhz. will have any interference. I can't wait for the day that everyone else in my club has changed to 2.4 but me. I wil still be flying my 8U Super. [:D] We have a pretty small club (about 14 members) and we are pretty good about using the frequency board so not much of a problem anyway.

RE: Goldberg Tiger 2: Who knew?
A couple years ago my Son In Law gave me a kit built Tiger 2. It has some moderate damage to the right wing tip, but other than that its in perfect condition. After reading all of the good things about these planes, It may be time to fix the wing and install a radio and engine. I had an original Sky Tiger but gave it to my friends son before I ever flew it. It was one of his first and favorite planes. It has been in storage for years but he is now in the process of restoring it to original condition. He will be flying it again this season. I can't wait to see it once its finished. The kid just turned 32 on Saturday and has turned into an accomplished flyer and scratch builder. He is just finishing a 40 sized Gee Bee Racer completely from scratch. He built it without plans by scaling down the full scale planes specs. and from photos. It is a beautiful piece of workmanship that I would be terrified to fly.

RE: Tx and Rx compatability for a newbie
I haven't bought into the 2.4 Gig stuff yet. I have too much 72 mhz. stuff to convert everything over. The 72 mhz. receivers are getting really inexpensive. I can buy micro receivers for three planes for what it cost for one Spektrum or Futaba 2.4 gig receiver. I will eventually switch to 2.4, but I am enjoying the savings now. When I do make the switch, I will probably just buy the Spektrum module to convert my Futaba 8U Super to 2.4 gig. I love that radio and don't want to give it up.

Yes, sounds like you have a poorly managed store in your area. I would be upset too. I am sorry now that I recommended Fastenal to you in my first post. I recommended them based on my very positive experiences with them in my local area.

Our local Fastenal stores are very reputable. I have done business with them thru my job and for my personal stuff for nearly ten years and have never had a problem. Our local store does not charge shipping on special orders if you can wait until they can ship it to their store with other shipments coming from their warehouses.

RE: How many engines you ruined?
The first year I started flying, I was hooked on the hobby so bad I would try to fly in almost any weather. One day in the middle of the winter the temperature was at least 5 below zero. I tried to start my new Asp .46. I hit the spinner with my electric started and heard a snapping noise and the engine turned over really fast. The connecting rod pin on the back of the crankshaft snapped off. I don't know if I flooded it and it hydraulic locked, or if it was just so cold that the metal was brittle. The good part was that Asp replaced the engine with another brand new one. I still have it and still runs fine.

Check to see if you have a Fastenal Outlet in your area. They can order you pretty much any type of fastener thats made. Our local Fastenal doesn't charge shipping on small orders to their store if they can include it with a larger shipment from their warehouse. Their prices are very reasonable if you don't have to add shipping charges to the price.

RE: Building the House of Balsa A7 Corsair Propjet
What a coincidence. I've had one of these hanging in my hobby room for quite some time. I just got it down Saturday. I bought an OS 32 to put on it, but now I'm thinking about setting it up for electric power. I haven't flown anything that squirrely in quite awhile. I've pretty much been flying my "Old Guy" planes. It should be interesting when I get it in the air.
