RE: Tips - Hat, Sunglasses and Whatelse?
There is this Australian brand of Liquorish that my wife keeps around the house. Everytime I go out flying I steal the bag and it always comes back empty. All I'm saying is if I have that candy with me then it is impossible for me to crash. Australian liquorish = Total BAMF behind the sticks. As long as it is the strawberry kind anyway.

RE: Advice on a new plane
It's the smallest size the .25 and I think you are right. The kit I was building before the dog destroyed it was going to weigh about as much as this one so I feel that the 3S will be ok. Any more info anyone else may have is greatly appreciated.

Advice on a new plane
I just bought this http://www.valuehobby.com/airplanes/trainer/stik-series.html I the moter I have has been putting out somewhere around 320 watts on 3S with a 9x6 prop The recommended set up says to run a 4S on the website. The plane weighs 2.5-3 lbs I really feel that 3S would be plenty. I have a lot of 3S 2200 mah packs and I don't want to have to buy any 4S packs if I don't have too. I'm just wanting some input and advice. Do you think 3S would work is the only question I have really.

Transmitter question
I fly planes. I'm wanting to get into Sailboats mainly becuase it just looks cool. I have a Hitech Aurora 9 and I am just wondering if it will work. I know as far as number of channels it's overkill, but I don't want to buy another transmitter. It just seems like a waste of money since I already have a nice transmitter to buy another one. Thanks Danny

Super Jake build/conversion thread
Okay well It looks like I'm winging it on the super jake. I have never even flown an electric and to be honest i havn't been in the hobby for very long, but I don't care. I'm doing it. I just got the fuselage finished, and the motor mounted. I hooked it all up and ran it through my meter. Did solid on a 60 second test. I'm running a hobbywing fun fly 40A ESC, a Value hobby G10 motor, and Value hobby Gforce 3S 2200 mah 20C Lipos. The ESC and Battery got just a little warm and only pulled 25A with a 9 X 6 E prop. Not too shabby and it felt like it had loads of thrust. I don't really know how to calculate this so if anyone has a fromula I'd like to see it. I think the plane is going to come in at a touch over 2 lbs maybe 2.5 lbs when its finished. A little heavy I think, but the motor should have no problem getting it in the air. I cut a little off the cowling for a couple of reasons. I didn't want to push the motor out front any more because it is already nose heavy enough so that should help at least a little bit when it comes time to balance the plane, and it's kinda related to the later but also just so I didn't have to use stand offs. It is going to be a little bit of a pain to mount the nose landing gear, but I think i can pull it off. I'm new so I will have plenty of opportunities in the future to do thing differently. If any of you have any input on where I can put the battery and ESC to help with the COG on this plane I would appreciate it. Also what are your thoughts on mounting the servos in the back of the plane? I'm tossing that idea around a bit and I'd like a little input. Thanks Danny

RE: NEW TO ELECTRIC ( wanting to convert to electreic)
Hey man I'm a newbie to electric too. Everything these guys are saying is true. Blvdbuzzard has especially been helpfull in answering any questions I have had. He is a very knowledgable guy, and he got me into the budget shopping thing. All those websites he mentioned are very inexpensive, but I stumbled accross another company that is just as cheap and their warehouse is based right here in the states. www.valuehobby.com Check it out. They should have what you need, and I got my order in less than five days. I try to buy american and if I can't which you will be really hard pressed to find any electronics components that are made in america these days, then I at least try to find companies that are based and distribute here in the states. The watt meter is pretty awsome. I bought mine from value hobby and I would say that it is just as good as any of the higher priced one out there. They have two different ones. One is rated for a MUCH higher amperage so make sure that is the one you get. Cheap batteries too. Thats what little I can contribute Danny

Fun aero Super Jake conversion
Hi all First off I know this isn't a very mainstream model, but I like kits. This one was made in the US. I just finished the fuse and mounted the motor got the connections on the ESC wired and prefit everything in less the servos and receiver and it seems like it is going to be super nose heavy. I am just wondering if there is anyone out there who has converted this model, and if there is a way to balance the plane out. This is my first conversion to electric. It's actually my first elecric plane. Anyone got any advice? Thanks Danny

RE: GREAT SERVICE AND LOW PRICES
I like this one www.valuehobby.com These guys distribute out of IL so shipping is quick, and their website is really easy to use. No sifting through a bunch of stuff that is out of stock to find what you need, and the prices are super low. 30 bucks for 30C 5000mah 3s lipos, and power 10 motors for 23 bucks. Not too bad at all, and like I said they distribute out of the US.

Would like some input on selling my nitro gear
Okay so I am absolutley positivley done with nitro. I have decided to sell everything and go to smaller electric planes(less hassle). I have a hanger 9 solo trainer(basically an alpha 40) with an evolution trainer engine and 4 standard jr servos, and I also have a transmitter for it but the trottle stick is broken. I do have another one laying around the house and I will install the reciever in it if I can find it before I sell. I'm also selling my field box with starter, power panel, glow starter for power panel, glow plug ingnitor, a attempted to build kadet senior that I started to build while I was on leave and realized its just too big, and a super tiger .61 engine that I was saving for a four star fourty of my grandfathers that I have decided against building now. I'm just wondering what a good asking price would be for all of this. I'm not looking to rip anyone off, but I don't want to get ripped off either. thanks Danny

Help me choose a battery please!!
So I'm new to electric. That forum on this website for electric training helped out quite a bit. I'm sick of the mess of nitro and the cost of nitromethane. So I bought my first plane that i plan on converting to electric. It's a fun aero superjake. It's technically going to be a conversion to electric as the plane calls for a .71 nitro engine, but I don't think its anything I can't handle. I do however need help choosing the right size battery. I plan on running 3s, but I'm not sure how many amps I should go with. The brand doesn't really matter to me it's flight time I'm after. Here is the motor and ESC I plan on using. It's going to be a little overpowered because this plane according to my numbers is going to weigh somwhere in the neighborhood of 2 1/2 pounds fully loaded up with the battery and everything. I'm on a budget so I'm using some rather generic products(I've mostly been looking for batteries at hobbypartz.com if that helps) http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V450327&pid=B1898545 http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=A0780192&pid=B2049175 Any help would be much appreciated Thanks Danny

Has anyone had any experience with the Exceed RC rocket series motors you can buy on www.hobbypartz.com? Just curious if they are a decent quality. I'm looking at going smaller and going electric and I am looking for some opinions on these motors and any of their other products like ESC's and Batteries. They have some good prices, but I'm just concerned about the quality.

I'm a deployed soldier, and I have a little downtime everyday. I bought a flight simulator and brought my crappy old fm transmitter to use on it. I'm using ClearView BTW. I'm just wondering what is the best set up to learn 3D I have a few planes on the sim that I have had some pretty good luck with, but what do I need to set my rates and Expo to. I can do some pretty neat stunts like spins, flatspins, low passes, loops, cubans, and most of those inverted, but what I really want to learn how to do is harrier and hover. Can someone help me out as far as setting up for rates and expo?

I have a Hitec A9, and I don't have any experience with the other radios mentioned however I have heard nothing but awsome things about the SD-10. I love my A9. It's so easy to program. touch screeen and everything. It has plenty of bells and whistles, and all the standard features you would expect in a high end radio. If I were to do it again knowing back then what I know now I would probobly still go with the Aurora 9. Too easy to program, and it feels like a quality radio should feel while it's in your hands. RE: Nitro or Electric??! Help
Before I got into planes a couple of years ago I raced nitro. I got away from the r/c car becaue the parts start racking up on you checking account, but If I were to do it all over again i would go nitro. I had a couple of electric and yes they are a little cleaner and depending on how you set them up you can make them go super fast, but the same goes with nitro. Nitro takes a little more effort ie. tuning the engine and a little more mastery on the throttle I think. Electrics are super responsive on the throttle which is nice, but nitro really has a lot of punch. As far as tuning the engine goes it's really fun to tune your engine to the point that you are getting the holeshot right off the bat. That takes a lot of practice and time to get to that point, but nothing beats that feeling of "I just kicked your ass off the holeshot" with electrics it's just not the same. Not to mention the sound of a nitro. Another reason I like nitro(even nitro plans) is the convenience of when you run out of juice you just fuel it back up. No messing with batteries really except for your radio gear which really take a whle to run down. With electrics you can only afford so many batteries and chargers to keep you going. All that being said my advice to you is try nitro. I know that sounds a little biased, but it really is a riot. After a day at the track your truck or buggy will be just filthy. It's pretty awsome.
