RE: The Official Traxxas 4wd Slash Thread...
Correct me if I am wrong but don't you wanna go with a softer weight in the shocks so there is a little more give to prevent rolling?

RE: The Official Traxxas 4wd Slash Thread...
If you read the manual it says that's not a throttle trim but it does tell you how to set the truck up for 50% max throttle. Idk if that helps.

See but that's exactly what I don't want. I don't want to spend 400 on this truck and then spend another 350 on a new motor esc and a 4s lipo. I think it's a little ridiculous tying up 800 bucks into a 1/10 scale truck.

RE: The Official Traxxas 4wd Slash Thread...
Ok so I went to my lhs today and dropped 350 on a slash 4x4 vxl... What am I going to have to do to get this thing to be stupid quick? I have a N-Firestorm and its not quick enough so I want the slash to be able to smack my firestorm in the face. I will be honest I am not so sure if I like what I am hearing about the overheating and diffs leaking, however I do know that I want a 4x4 brushless any terrain kind of truck and the guy at my lhs swore by this thing. Is this a good buy I still owe like 30 bucks on it since I put it in layaway, I wanted to see what issues people were having. So my main concerns are durability and speed for the price. If any of you have any suggestions Im open ears.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Ok... I put the savage clutch in my storm and I was wondering if any body else had the problem with the clutch bell not fitting all the way over the clutch shoes? And did you use the storm collect for the flywheel or the one that comes with the clutch kit?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Well went the to the lhs after work talked to a couple of guys and determined what I really wanted was something faster that could run mostly street but would be able to handle a beating. some of the guys recommended the stampede vxl but I really want a 4wd version of the firestorm. I thought about it and came to the conclusion that I put that truck through hell and all that has broke in almost two years has been rear control arms. Aside from the whole front end when I ran straight into a parking block at 3/4 top speed because I was being an idiot. But honestly the most reliable truck ever. So I am looking for a 4wd electric stadium truck brushless would be nice but not a requirement. Preferably around 3 to 4 hundred RTR would be nice, since I can't get receivers for my radio anymore.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Its been a long time since I have been on here... Great jobs on the trucks looking real nice fella's. So since I last posted the truck has undergone complete teardown and rebuild with some mods. I'm in the process of putting piggyback shocks on it. Painted both upper deck and chassis plate stainless and new wheels and tires. I will upload a pic a little bit later my phone won't let me do it now for some reason. But I have found myself in tuff situation... I need some opinions either upgrade the storm with new motor and various other parts or go after a different truck... If I go with a new truck I'm thinking savage XL or the flux 2350... What do you guys think? I know some of you may have these other trucks I'm considering so I need some input. Or if anyone has any other suggestions I open ears. I want something faster and durable enough to take the beating I'd put to it ....

I have broke 3 stock clutch springs so far I just didnt know if the upgrade was worth it. I have not looked on ebay for rpm tho I will.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
The only bad thing about that tho is the fact that arms are pretty much the only rpm product I can find. I didnt see any bulkheads or any other things I needed to get it running again. One other question does the 3 piece savage clutch really improve take off that much?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
It has been a long while since I've last logged in, but i got out the storm for the first time yesterday after it sat for a whole year and it started on first pull I was amazed but my victory was short lived within the first half hour I smashed it into a parking block and annihilated the whole front end of the truck. I need new front complete bulkhead kit, servo saver set, upper deck, and shock tower. I am debating on whether getting all new aluminum or stock, aluminum $165 total from integy or stock crash kit from ebay $65 with shipping and that includes an aluminum brace for the upper deck. Sorry no pics but for those who want details, I lined up a jump punched it hit about 70% full speed stock motor and diff, then the rear end hit gravel and the truck darted to the left and into the curb...any suggestions

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Aen't the RPM arms still plastic I got the integy aluminum rear arms and they went on smooth as can be the only problem I had with them was that the the gap for the hub was a little to wide fixed it with a piece of fuel tubing. They are worth the $25 for the pair....So any other suggestions on shocks?...Oh and thanks rob after I re adjusted that slipper clutch and with a nice temp gun I tweeked the low end and high end I had it running 230 to 240 degrees and if i didn't have bald ass tires i would have been poppin wheelies all day im sure...

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Yea dude that trip sounded like it was pretty kick ass... Well here is the update the truck is running awesome I richened up the low end maybe 1/8 turn and set my idle in and runs great if I had some nubby tires instead of street I could probably pull wheelies and the highest temp I have had yet has been 228 and thats body on some times I might have to adjust high end but its never more than 1/8 turn in either direction and since I did snap my rear lower controls arms last week I got the integy aluminum set put on a few days ago, as for the new wheels and tires I did go buy traxxas hex's but the diameter of the wheels is not big enough to clear tie rod so I will have to wait to get the traxxas 2.8' wheels that r stock jato (i think), but today I took it to work and built a ramp that was made of this sign and it was flexible and I was gettin some height then I thought lets see what it will really do. My buddy was standing next to the jump and the truck got high enough to clear his head, he is close to 6 ft and landed upside down on the shock towers then it rolled over once and took off...BEST DAM TRUCK I have ever bought... LOVE IT

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Not repaint them really... I was thinkin bout getting an all black wheel with blue lock nuts to try and stick with the blue and black body theme and the guy I got the truck off of painted the wheels red so now I have a blue and black truck with red wheels... I did buy a set of traxxas 1/16 scale wheels not knowing they were that scale and they are really not that much smaller than storm stock and they will work but I will have to take the step outta the hex hub to use them... any suggestions

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
I am sure the gear mesh isn't right cuz after I did this last clutch I just threw the motor back on. Probably not a good thing since you mentioned gear mesh. How will I know if the mesh is set properly? So wat does the slipper clutch do? I have never read about it being adjusted at all? I am posting this before I read the manual. Oh and does anyone know where to get some good cheap aluminum rear control arms?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
HOLY SH**!!!! Unless your trust your hobby shop whole heartly DON'T EVER take your car there for tuning... Yea my storm kept blowing clutches but now it is stupid slow. My first temp reading since I got it back was about 130 and thats after about half tank and a min cool down time... And my sons walmart car kept up. Unfortunately until I go get tire glue I screwed cuz during my "testing" I was doing donuts and my foam came out of the LR wheel...lol
